Outstanding, although my all-time favourite was the head of the Catholic Church in the Phillipines, one Cardinal Sin.

Similar is my favorite sporting quote.  Harry Carpenter at a Boat Race "Ah that's nice, the wife of the Cambridge President has just kissed the cox of the Oxford Crew".

Anyone else watch the Documentary on the demise o Third Lanark on Alba, brought back memories mentioned in previous thread o Bill Taylors goal given as a Og, as the Keeper was Jocky Robertson who was only 5' 6" punted it up field and went over his head.

Never knew you got Alba in Englandshire or that anyone watched it.

There’s some really good stuff on Alba, some crud too I have to add. Give it a try.

I used to love the programme on Europe, on every week (sounded like “Yorpa”, though obviously without any vowels).. Some guy in Berlin would be chatting away in German, with English sub-titles AND a Gaelic voice-over translation. It was surreal.

At Muirton Park on 28th July 1951 Saints were beaten 5-2 by Dumbarton in the Festival of Britain Quaich.

Buckley and Peat scored for Saints.

Dumbarton were the winners of the Quaich, beating Ayr 2-1 in the final.

Sixtiessaintee will be able to use his calendar from that year in 2029 , as it's a replica of 1951.

Not a lot of people know that.;)

Signed by Saints as a striker, Benny Rooney was converted to a centre half, by today's standards at 5ft 8 ins. was small for a centre half.

1st senior club was Celtic at age of 16, where his dad Bob was the club physio, he was farmed out to Cambuslang Juniors and Petershill.

Loaned out to Dumbarton where he made his senior debut.

Without Googling, which club did Saints sign him from?

Andrew Hannah born 17 Sept. 1864.

Born in Renton Dunbartonshire of Irish immigrant parents , he was the 1st player to Captain Everton and Liverpool.

While playing right back for Renton F.C. they won the Scottish Cup in 1885 beating Vale of Leven 3-1.

After beating Cambuslang 6-1 in 1888 to lift Scottish Cup again, Renton took on English Cup winners West Bromich Albion in the Unofficial 'World Championship', which Renton won 4-1 at Cathkin Park Glasgow.

W.B.A. were so impressed they signed him.

Failing to settle, he returned home, eventually signing for Everton, whose home ground was Anfield.

The Scottish football international helped Everton win the Title in 1890-91 season, missing only 2 games.

A dispute by the landowner and the committee resulted in Everton moving , while Liverpool (were formed in 1892) remained at Anfield , where the Manager and Club Captain Andrew Hannah remained.

He died in 1940 in the Western Infirmary Glasgow and was buried in an unmarked grave in Kilbowie Cemetery Clydebank.

In 2018 Everton FC Heritage Society commemorated his grave by erecting a headstone.
