So, it's looking increasingly likely that Saints will be playing on August 5th & 12th in the Europa League third qualifying round, rather than the play-off round.

There's a great thread on Twitter that explains who we could be up against:

It'll be one of:

  • PSV Eindhoven,
  • Austria Rapid Wien
  • Danish Superliga runners up
  • Czech League runners up
  • Galatasaray
  • Swiss cup winners (St Gallan or Luzern)

Some decent trips there!

(Our chances of getting a play-off spot now depend on Liverpool, Leicester, and Aston Villa winning on Sunday in the round of EPL games, and then Chelsea winning the CL final.)

Do we need Chelsea to finish in a Europa League spot in their league THEN that they Win the Champion League (thus freeing up their Europa League spot for finishing 5th?)

What happens if we lose that tie? Is that it, or do we drop into the Eurodiddy Cup?

Ot looks like if we loose the Europa League Q3 round tie we drop into the conference play off. So at worst we'd be looking at 2 European ties......but in all honesty we might simply be entered into an egg and spoon race against the Bulgarian cup winners.

Seems we kick off in August, gives Davidson time to add to squad and get a pre-season in.

Perhaps the answer to "what does Davidson do now?" Is.....pump PSV out of the Europa league.

280,000 euros for a third round team plus gate money and advertising and tv, even if the plane costs 100,000 that’s still a massive profit and that’s just 1 round.

Bound to help players budget for next season,

I think most of the 280,000 is the TV money isn’t it?

Some very tough games there and we'd be huge underdogs.

But if Saints can play against any of those teams the way we've played this season (in particular the way we've played in the last couple of games against Sevco) then those teams will have to play bloody well to break through our defence.

We definitely know we can beat Luzern!
