blueheaven
The captain of their women's team and their SLO have also quit. And lots of fans saying they won't be back. Well done all of them. Always liked Raith Rovers but really wonder what they're playing at with this move.

chips
I've just spent most of the morning reading through the RR thread on P&B and twitter, it's clear to see the major implode this has caused, from two main sponsors, directors, SLO, captain of the woman's team even the tannoy man resigning (rumours of ball boys/girls refusing to come out for their game tonight) and fans protesting. Now headline news (Scotland) and segments in Sky news and Sturgeon having a pop, how can whoever is left on the board/management fix this, seems the damage is done even if they were to "retract or pay off" Goodwillie. Its been posted that when rumours were abound in December regarding signing DGW that McDermid made it clear she would retract her shirt sponsorship if he were to sign, also the fan appointed director had a meeting with the board and produced 100s of emails received from concerned fans etc at the time that they didn't want him near their club yet they still went ahead with the contract knowing the negative reactions that may occur, I can only guess they totally underestimated how bad it would get. We've been a right s**t s**w ourselves this season (maybe about to change)but nothing compared to what Raith fans are going through just now, I would be absolutely raging and devastated if this was us. All of which raises the question - how could they possibly have thought this was all worth it, just to sign a 32-year-old who's spent the last five seasons kicking about the third and fourth tiers. What are they thinking?? Tranmere Saintee
chips
Just now, blueheaven said: All of which raises the question - how could they possibly have thought this was all worth it, just to sign a 32-year-old who's spent the last five seasons kicking about the third and fourth tiers. What are they thinking?? That question comes up often throughout the threads, they (board/management) obviously think he's the answer to their play off/promotion push, huge risk alone taking on a player who hasn't played full time football for 5 years and turning 33 next month. Now they're needing to weigh up (financially) if potentially winning promotion overrides the loss of sponsorship, fans etc etc. Raith really have served up a major mess on this one. Similarly stjohnstone fans barely made a cheep when we signed his friend robertson .utter disgrace. I believe there was a small amount of protest that soon quietened down when he went to Clyde, but that seemed forgotten by the bigger majority once he started scoring. Maybe because Clyde are deemed a " really wee team" that there wasn't much of an outcry especially on social media/tabloids.Raith although not a massive club are a bit more higher profile and a (or did have) renowned best selling author as a director/shirt sponsor and season ticket holder at the club which made the national news when she made her feelings known. Now with many jumping ship the whole saga has gathered more momentum throwing DGW back into unwanted attention and more importantly bringing back the trauma to the girl it concerns. I wonder if he'll feature tonight in their game against Qos
chips
It'll probably not be of much interest to many but I can post up the court (civil) transcripts link of the hearing which includes all involved pursuer, defenders, witnesses etc plus judges summary. It's a long read and parts are a bit graphic

Similarly stjohnstone fans barely made a cheep when we signed his friend robertson .utter disgrace. There was a similar outcry when he signed for Clyde (though it probably had less media coverage because they're a smaller club and didn't have someone like Val McDermid raising the issue on social media). There were a number of Clyde fans who said they'd stop going to Broadwood when Goodwillie signed, including an MSP: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/msp-vows-boycott-clyde-after-10160113 (although from looking at John Mason's Twitter account it seems he must have had a change of heart). Clyde's chairman ended up going on TV news to defend the signing and his stance was widely covered in the Scottish media: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-39521642 David Robertson left Saints in 2013. The civil case ruling him to be a rapist wasn't until 2017. To be honest at the time he was playing for us I can't remember even being aware that he was connected to this story. I really don't think there have been many Saints fans who have wanted Goodwillie here, certainly not post-2017. If he signed for Saints the reaction would be exactly the same as we're seeing at Raith Rovers.

Just had a wee scan around some archive topics, seems Robertson (Robbo) was welcomed into Saints by the fans with open arms, so no outcry that I can see. Bit of a hero after scoring in Inverness before a bad injury basically ended it for him here, many fans sad to see him go. Mad a few years later what then transpired through civil courts

SlickDT
Whilst I wouldn't want him at Saints and think Raith Rovers have made a major mistake, why on earth does Nicola Sturgeon think its is anything to do with her? Didn't hear anything from her when he was playing for Clyde. I'd rather she spent her time looking into the supposed huge issue of child grooming of foreign gangs in her own constituency. ejksjfc
It certainly would appear to be a spectacular own goal by Raith Rovers. His talent certainly doesn’t justify the bad publicity that his signing would produce. Maybe a bit of a side issue but it would be interesting to be reminded who on here still think it is appropriate for us to continue singing our “I went out for a pint” song.
