I'd rather have seen them take a bit longer over it if it had meant getting the right manager in. I don't think there was any major rush at the time. I'd have happily seen Cleland carry on in charge for a few more games while the long-term plan got sorted out. That's disappointing. We were certainly in a bad spot, but it was only the end of October, so we had plenty time to turn things around. After the last two managers had been let go, surely the sensible thing to do was take a bit of time, find out who's available and who wants it, while letting Cleland get on the job. There was no real panic, especially after the Kilmarnock game. Cleland was obviously going to be a safe pair of hands until the right person was found. Quote

But, but, but BH, "it's a process.... you can't just snap your fingers and make things better" * * shoite and we all know it. Most of us here have been watching football long enough to know when a manager is working out and when he's not, and If he has a chance of improvement or not. And we all know the answer to the above. I'm on the King Tommy bus, and I appreciate not everyone will agree with that, but I know most/all Will agree that Levein is a dead end, there is no future with him at the helm, and doomsday is approaching faster than Mr Webb appreciates. Our "experienced" manager was out thought by 2 rookie managers in their first season of big boy football. Really Cregg? Cagey Posted September 14, 2024 Report Posted September 14, 2024 I didn't want Levein. He should also have been sacked after last seasons shitshow. Surely Kirk should be helping him by suggesting subs required or guys on yellows or blowing out their arse.9 subs and able to use 5 but every game unless forced by injury he only makes 2 subs in last 10/15 minutes. We have had enough. , nothing has changed in past year. blueheaven, Coltrane, Gekko and 1 other 4 Quote
Graeme S Posted September 14, 2024 Report Posted September 14, 2024 St Johnstone manager, Craig Levein, is confident the Perth side will find a way out of their early-season slump after suffering another Saturday where everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Losing 2-0 to Hibs made it four defeats on the bounce for the McDiarmid Park club. And woven into the fabric of this run of bad form is an increasingly worrying lack of discipline. Benji Kimpioka was the third Saints player in three fixtures to be red carded near the end of the game. It means Levein will take his team to Dingwall next weekend for a crucial clash against Ross County without either of his star strikers, Kimpioka and Adama Sidibeh. Hibs’ opener on the stroke of half-time – a close-range Mykola Kuharevich header – was the latest in a long line of set-piece goals Saints have conceded. Martin Boyle finished the game as a contest deep into the second half and then with only a couple of minutes left, Kimpioka was given a straight red for a challenge on Jordan Obita. Madness Asked to sum up the afternoon, Levein said: “Madness. “The first half was really good. “In my eyes we restricted Hibs to very little and I think the biggest factor in the game was the goal just before half-time. “Hibs got a lift from that and after all the hard work that we’d put in, our team talk was completely different. “If we’d gone in at half time, at 0-0, it’s a different story. “There was an element of frustration from the Hibs supporters because they hadn’t really concocted many attacks or really good but that one goal makes a hell of a difference.” Levein was disappointed that his team couldn’t muster a better response in the second half. “It’s very difficult for me to explain that,” he said. “I don’t understand how we can go from that level of performance to dropping off completely.“ But I think the goal was in the back of their minds. I think we were not quite as focused as we were in the first half, not quite as disciplined and that ended up with Benji’s decision to go for that challenge. “He’s apologised to the lads in the dressing room for it. But on the back of the other suspensions that we already got, it doesn’t help.” Bad decisions Red cards are having a serious impact on Saints’ season just. Kimpioka’s was the fourth of the campaign. “I don’t consider us to be a particularly aggressive team,” said Levein. “I don’t. “It’s just some poor decision making. “I’m talking about these red card incidents but also I felt in the second half we made some poor decisions on the ball. “Instead of putting pressure on Hibs and turning them in tight on occasions just to use Benji’s pace in behind, we played too many short passes and invited pressure.” Levein admitted that there may be an element of the players feeling sorry for themselves just now. “Yeah, possibly,” he said. “But nobody digs you out of the hole. You’ve got to do it yourself. “So we’ve got to go back on the training ground and we’ve got to work even harder. “That’s the only way I think it works for us.” A section of the Saints’ support made their feelings known at full-time but Levein is adamant that his squad is capable of turning things around soon. “I’m confident,” he said. “I think that the improvements in our players are quite apparent. “It’s not like we’re getting hammered or people are having countless attacks or anything like that. “Players have tried their best, I’ve got no doubt about that. I think a couple of things have gone against us. “If we stick together and ignore the noise, then we’ll be fine. “We’ll just try our best next week and hopefully make some better decisions and keep 11 people on the field. “That would be nice.” 🤣 enji KimpiokCrt Johnstone FC blueheaven 1 Quote

I agree but for me it goes higher as well, sacking Kirk and Levein would only solve part of the problem. Gus McPherson and Roddy Grant need to go as well. Yesterday we put two players out on loan , they must have agreed that knowing how poor our bench would be today. They agreed to May going to Livingston, how much would he have been an asset today or even more so next week. The goalkeeper situation is as shambles and, what are they doing to Craig Hepburns career, he had a good season at Luncarty, then Cowdenbeath, he should be on loan to a league 1/2 team and getting games, not the second goalie on our bench, if he even was second , what’s happened to Rae. At the open night, Webb said, not to worry as they wouldn’t take any major decisions without speaking to Geoff first, sorry but that does worry me. Geoff Brown is the biggest asset to my club in my lifetime but he’s now an old man and I d rather they disassociated from the Brown years and did their own thing. Mizfit Posted September 14, 2024 Report Posted September 14, 2024 The more I think on it, the more that I think Leveins ****ed. It was obvious as far back as the end of last season Mitov was away. The solution? Offer Edwards a contract and hope he took it. When he didn’t we signed effectively a back up and spent the summer persuading Gordon to try and come in. He can pretend all he wants that was not the plan, but it was. He then offers Macpherson a new deal. That alone was moronic. His solution to the captaincy problem, sign a loanee and offer him it, likely pissing off those already at the club. Up top, he messes up his by keeping a disinterested Clark (who is disinterested due to his horrendous tactics) and loans out May. For every good signing, there’s a crap one. And let’s not even start on the goalkeeping coach position. For me, it’s clear the dressing room is long gone, he’s treading water and is waiting on his sacking. Just pull the trigger now, give Cleland the next 3 games to rebuild the teams confidence and have someone in for the first game following the international break. blueheaven, Coltrane, Havana Saint and 2 others 4 1 Quote
GORDON76 Posted September 14, 2024 Report Posted September 14, 2024 The fact we have no goalkeeping coach with two young goalies is incredulous. There will be no Livi or Arabs getting detached at the bottom this season. Have a feeling our time is up in the SPL. Quote
