Summer transfer window 2024

It was expected, but it's still disappointing.

Like others, I was hoping that if he was to go, then it would have been better if it had been somewhere out of Scotland, so we didn't have to see him return in an opposing jersey.

Oh well, can't grudge him it. He's been great for us.

He raised his profile and got into the international squad, we got an excellent keeper for a season who was a huge part of us staying up in the league, and we're getting a wee bit of cash from Aberdeen as well from somebody we picked up on a free.

When you think about it like that, it's worked out well for all concerned really.

If it's a low sell on, this might alert somebody else to offer a last minute bid? Not that it'll make any difference to us really, unless it was a club down south which would make it a bit easier.

If it was going to happen, then it's good that it's happened early on, so we have plenty time to react without all the potential problems of losing him at the last minute like McCann and Kerr.

It's also saved us a nervy time before the window closes, because let's be honest, we'd have been waiting for this to happen otherwise.

Onwards though, and I agree that we need an experienced keeper now, so we can have two who are first team ready, and then send Sinclair out on loan.

Geoff Brown used to say that we were always going to be a stepping stone club, and he liked it when we helped a player move on to bigger things, because that would mean others would be more inclined to join us so they could do the same.

Let's hope that's the case.

I thought Celtic might have come in for him when Hart left.

£100 k is chicken feed for them and he single handledly got us a 0-0 draw at Parkhead.

I always thought that too. Now I can see Aberdeen getting at least £1m for him in due course.

He won't move for a fee again, IMO. He's 27 now, even a good year at Aberdeen won't see someone spending a huge amount on him, and definitely not £1m.

Sad to see Mitov go, but thought it likely. Apparently the release clause is very low, 6 figures but nowhere near £300k.

Wonder if Levein could convince Gordon to come and play for him again? Jon McLaughlin is another option.

Sad thing is, that if we had not regressed over the last 3 seasons, we could have held on to Mitov, and others, for a longer period as we were proving to be better than most of the rest, including Aberdeen.

The reality of the situation will be that main attraction for any player is £££.  We wouldn't be able to match Aberdeen in that respect.

Either of these two wouldn't surprise me.

I mean, he could absolutely move on for a fee in a year or two if he does well there. He’s still young for a goalkeeper. Probably not reached his peak yet.

There's a lot to be frustrated about when players move on to division rivals but I think we have to accept that they would never agree to sign for us in the first place if the club had too much control over the contract. And for all those saying 'we should have done X' to keep them longer, we never knew he would be so good when he signed. Also, we have plenty of players who were given long contracts which we came to regret. So, I am sorry to see Mitov go but accept that whether it is more money, playing for a 'bigger' club or whatever the reason is that he wants to move, we should just be grateful for the last season. It's pretty rare to have such a clear consensus amongst fans that one player was the difference between staying up and getting relegated.

Having said all that, still struggling that he is likely off to Aberdeen

I'm a bit surprised he hasn't held out a bit longer for a better move. There's still ages to go until the season starts and if his agent put it out there that he wanted to move and supposedly available for such a small fee, I'd have thought he'd have a few options to consider. Can't blame him at all for wanting to move on though.

"As soon as heard there was interest from Aberdeen, I called my agent and said get it done," he told the club website.

“The club has a huge history, there are lots of good people here and, when we played against Aberdeen, I loved the atmosphere the fans created."

Bye then!
