The key word in the sentence was minimum. Obviously you would hope that a lot of weeks they would be above that but if most of the team never drop below that then we are in to a good thing. In comparison, last season we had a number of players who were less than 6/10 most weeks. We need a few Mr Consistency’s, every team does. blueheaven 1
Northern saint Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 While the window is open for weeks, if we want a team gelling, players playing well quickly, we need those players in now so they can train, get fit, know the system, build partnerships. If we can't get the quality we need, I'll accept we play our youngsters. I'd rather that than waste more money on bench quality at best. It would be great to find a Griffin/McClusky style central pairing amongst what we have. I didn't see one at the weekend. Inglis/Baltacha would be good. Whoever they have in mind we need them here, now! As for anyone leaving, tell them a date and if not done, no deal will be done. It must leave time for a replacement.
blueheaven Posted July 4, 2024 Author Report Posted July 4, 2024 I think it's inevitable that some signings will happen late. There are going to be players who become available later in the window (I think Macca found that last season and that was how we ended up getting Jephcott and Matt Smith) and others who will start to worry they still don't have clubs as the season approaches and perhaps broaden their horizons to Scotland. I'm guessing any loan signings will likely happen closer to the deadline too. I know we've been told the new owner is unlikely to alter the budget much but I do wonder if he'll be tempted to sanction one or two bigger/better signings as a way of announcing his arrival and getting the fans on board from the start. But that's probably wishful thinking! pezza70 1

Melbourne Saint Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 Well we've signed a seasoned goalie... Heard he's quite good. Next up, a whole new defence...
bankfoot saint Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) Next arrival imminent? Saints tonight linked with a move for Notts County defender Kyle Cameron, who until this summer was club captain at Meadow Lane. just taken off Twitter plays centre back or left back Edited July 4, 2024 by bankfoot saint pezza70 1
Linky Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 Maybe new captain. Will he be left back or on the left side of centre?
Linky Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 Also an 18 year old Ghanaian centre back close to signing

Steg Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 St Johnstone are on the verge of signing Ghana Under-20 captain Aaron Essel, an 18-year-old centre-back who can also play as a holding midfielder or right-back.
Linky Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 (edited) Ok, so with these two signings, we may be starting to shape up like this: Rae/Sinclair Keltjens/Essel McClelland/Olufunwa Cameron/Sanders NEW SIGNING/Cameron Wright/McPake Sprangler/MacPherson Smith/Max Steven/Carey Sidebeh/Clark Ikpeazu/Kimpioka OTHERS May, Franczak (loan?), Smith, Parker, Ferguson I wonder if we still have a CM to come as well as a left back. Perhaps a striker on loan to cover Ikpeazu's injury. Maybe a GK depending on how they looked in friendlies Edited July 5, 2024 by Linky

Perhaps a striker on loan to cover Ikpeazu's injury. Maybe a GK depending on how they looked in friendlies I'm sceptical that we'll play 4-4-2 very often. I still think Levein prefers playing three central defenders and I reckon that's what he's going to gravitate towards doing most weeks. A CM would be a very high priority for me. Our current midfield options terrify me. It's basically the same as last season but with Phillips gone, Carey another year older and probably a more prominent role for Cammy MacPherson. That's a downgrade on what was already a poor midfield. PSJ.84 1

Templar Saint Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 Perhaps as 1 year left on contract that Notts wanted off books but not willing to do deal with player so player goes out on loan and still gets pay deal he is on until end of contract. Could sign pca in January.

Linky Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 Loan is presumably because he’ll sign a pca in January? Problem is, if he does well, someone else may offer him something better.
