I agree and disagree. Given Saints scarce contract finances, we are an "unofficial" feeder club. We can only look at players that aren't getting game time and are rotting on the bench. Saints offer a way out for those players. Basically, "you'll get game time and if you're good enough, you'll sign for a bigger club." Sure there's plenty of duds, but there are gems and to be fair, Saints offer them a ladder out of mediocrity. Mitov is a classic example. Doing absolutely nothing on the bench in England, 1 season with saints, he's got an international cap, and moves to Aberdeen. In one season. If he didn't move to saints, he'd have ended up in the conference league. Now his career has new heights. If he does well at Aberdeen, then he could go to many clubs. I'd like sell-on clauses for these players. We may not be the most attractive club to sign for, but if they're decent, we offer an escape from obscurity. Gave 100%. Easy to blame young players for everything. We just want to see good football not park football dressed up as Premier League. These 2 weren’t to blame. Even Mitov played long every chance. We might even get more of a team effort this year. Sometimes Mitov saved himself after just kicking it long. Good shot stopper but the team game nah. He will get coached to play out unlike when he was here and he did what he wanted. We have no hope until we develop a playing and player philosophy
Linky Posted July 6, 2024 Report Posted July 6, 2024 Andre Raymond, T&T left back about to sign. 9 caps for his country. Also Cameron quite likely to be captain.
templeofsaints Posted July 6, 2024 Report Posted July 6, 2024 Aaron Essel set to sign this week. Courier reports a left back coming in as well. 23yr old Andre Raymond from Trinidad and Tobago side who plays in Portugal. Defence looks a lot better than it did a week ago pezza70 1

blueheaven Posted July 7, 2024 Author Report Posted July 7, 2024 Have to say, Levein's signings are certainly a lot more interesting than his style of football. I just hope there's some sort of plan to blend these more out-there, take-a-chance signings with at least a couple of reliable guys with some experience of Scottish football. Just on the Cameron signing, I think making it a loan deal initially probably makes sense for everyone. Why would Notts County be willing to pay off the remaining year of his contract and let him come here for no transfer fee? Instead, they make a saving as we take on his wages (or a portion of them) for the year. And it gives Saints a chance to see if he's a good fit, and the player a chance to see if he likes Scottish football. Pretty much works for all parties. double deluxe and pezza70 2

Gallacher was just nowhere near good enough. Three different managers had him here and they all shared that opinion. If we're to have any hope of moving back up the league we need to move on from guys like that and back ourselves to find better quality.

GORDON76 Posted July 8, 2024 Report Posted July 8, 2024 Being cautiously optimistic, I think we are heading in the right direction. Still need a Martin Hardie type of midfielder imho.
