Summer transfer window 2024

Wanted an attacking left sided defender, who's happy to go 1v1 on the ball, and that's exactly what he seems to be.

Suspect he'll need time to adapt so he'll maybe struggle a bit v Morton, but another who should only get better while with us.

Will our new owner insist we have proper release clauses in these contracts?  How much would Mitov have been worth on an open market?

To think Motherwell may get over a £1 million for Bair.  How come we didn't spot how to play his abilities?

Makes you wonder whether Levein will waste Adama and Benji.

Bair left before Levein was hired, bizarre to try and pin anything about that on him.

Just shows how superior Kettlewell is as a manager compared to Davidson. Criminal how he treated Theo at Saints. Incredibly, Macca could not see his attributes either. Motherwell now set to get over a million. You couldn't make it up.

The lad got chance after chance at saints and didn't do it. Sometimes things don't work out forgot kettlewell has won the double.

Really

The saw a big guy and thought "target man", and flat out refused to think of him as anything more than that.

He was always more of a Stevie May type and Motherwell played him like that. With a lot of support and balls in behind/to his feet.

We're signing Cocks.

Courier saying he's going straight on loan to Forfar once he signs.

Bair had 38 appearances all but 8 of them from the bench. I would bet that of the other 30 , none were much more than 10 mins and probably none of the 8 lasted 90 mins..

I agree Bair got lots of chances in a Saints shirt and he was consistently terrible. But the issue wasn't number of chances. The issue was Callum Davidson failing to properly assess what kind of player he was, being completely ignorant of how to play to his strengths, and doing nothing at all to develop, coach and instruct him.

When things don't work out, there are usually reasons for it.

I was under the impression that the clauses we gave Mitov in his contract were probably part of the reason he signed for us in the first place. Fine to say we shouldn't have had the release clause in there but if it's something his agent was insisting on, should we have passed up the chance to sign him? Having him here for just one season basically kept us up so was of far more value to us than just a transfer fee.

Watched Arron in two friendlies the Huntley one in which he looked out best player and Arbroath where conditions where poor but still had something about him

I say differently one for the future

Amid all of this we still haven't signed anyone who is actually going to change the way we get the ball forward and create chances for our strikers (unless we're going to be very optimistic about McPake).

What do people think we still need? For me, we're still lacking:

  • A physical, attack-minded central midfielder.
  • An additional experienced central defender.
  • Ideally a winger, though I've no idea if Levein is actually planning on playing wingers.
  • A second option for left-back (so far we've brought in Raymond and lost Robinson, Gallacher and Booth, plus Brown who was able to do a shift in that position in an emergency too).
  • Possibly an experienced goalkeeper?

I don’t want to go over the whole Bair debacle again but it’s just utter tosh to try and pass it off as he was given loads of chances and was “pish”. I don’t get why anyone would want to paint that picture.

We saw similar treatment of Melamed, then Vertainen, then Bair.

He was clearly not well looked after at the club, both on and off the pitch and that should not just be sweeper under the carpet.

Footballers are attracted to sign for clubs like our because offer them exactly the opposite of that - which incidentally has brought us much success in the past.

Footballers talk, it’s a small world and if we allow the “Bair affair” to go unaddressed then players won’t feel like taking a risk like Mitov etc did?

I think we'll only see the second and third of those. Carey will double up as left wing back if Raymond is injured, with Keltjens a possibility there too.
