I get what people are saying about needing a Scottish core of players who "get it", I think it's important at any level; however the evidence speaks for itself -

Kimpioka > May

Sidibeh > Kane

Sprangler > MacPherson

Raymond > Gallacher

That's just the first 4 that spring to mind in our team. I'm all for having Scots play for us, especially the younger ones who can not only develop for saints, but also the nation and the league, but I'd rather we play the best players at the club than focus on nationality. The irony is our best young player isn't even Scottish!

Yeah I pretty much agree. As much as I feel that winning the Double with so many home grown players from the local area was something to be really proud of, I don't particularly care where our players come from as long as they're giving their all and taking us forward.

We've had a lot of Scottish players over the years who have had very little loyalty towards Saints and made it pretty clear they'd go literally anywhere else at the drop of a hat for a bit more money (Danny Swanson coming to mind for some reason). And of course Cammy MacPherson is Scottish but hasn't exactly won a lot of people over with his attitude. At the same time, one of the most loyal and committed ex-players I can think of is Nick Dasovic, who came from the other side of the world and had been a real football nomad before finding his way to us, and yet made us very much his home team.

I think it could even be argued that a player uprooting their life and coming here from another continent could well be more determined to make it work, than someone who already has the safety net of living locally and being content to bounce around whichever central Scotland club will take them. And of course a player from Africa etc is far less likely to be a supporter of one of our rivals and be described in the press as "Rangers mad" or "Celtic daft"!

Ach. The character of football players never changes. For every Ando there is a Swanson and for every Dasovic there is a Sandaza.

Said it on here before but my missus used to work with kids with special needs and learning disabilities ( still does but she used to as well ). And the club contacted her work one day to say that they wanted to send players out for a visit and bring some merchandise etc.

On the day it was only Miguel Simao that turned up and stayed for ages playing with the kids and getting photos taken.

Then there's Muzz who infamously couldn't even be arsed returning his POTY to Ghostie.

I think as fans we can quickly tell who the players are who are willing to do these things too. I remember Remi Matthews used to be constantly in photos doing all that kind of stuff. Over the last couple of seasons I've noticed that every time I've been to a Saints' womens team game, an U21 game or youth team game, Ross Sinclair always seems to be there in attendance.

Early days yet but Valakari strikes me as the kind of guy who will perhaps get out and about in the community and go to stuff, and hopefully encourage the players to do the same. In fact, I'm hoping Webb has told him that's part of his job description.

I think they are quietly doing this. A couple of weeks ago Ross and Benji visited residents at the Ochil Care Home in Perth.

Good signing. Possibly the missing piece of the puzzle in an outfield sense.

@R.B.B:- Adz Two months on, what are your thoughts on the Jason Holt signing? You reacted with a ‘confused’ emoji to the post above. As a feeble-minded individual, I almost ended up questioning my own judgement.

I wasn't fussed for the deal when I heard it happening.. didn't think he was anything special when we had him first time but if im honest i like his work in the midfield, hes got a calming presence in the midfield. I think the balance of him, smith and Spangler is perfect. I think more credit needs to be thrown Spanglers way as he is very disciplined at staying back which lets smith and holt get forward

I can only apologise for my alleged gaslighting. You were right, I was wrong!

It is fair to say I have absolutely come 180 degrees on this one - he has been brilliant!

Not only did I not really like him the first time round, I don’t think he was particularly effective either. However this time I have both warmed to his endeavour and been surprised by how rounded he is as a player. A bit lightweight from time to time but other than that he has been fantastic.

Bin Sanders, Neilson and Cameron and bring in 2/3 good centre backs and there no way we will finish in the bottom two and could even be top 6 with this squad. Bench looked strong yesterday too.

Fair play to you, I never admit it when I’m proven wrong. You’re a better man than me.

Found his level and all that, but apparently Connor Smith is having a very good season at Hamilton

Was always likely, needs to be the "best player" to be any use and 2nd tier as a teams main attacking threat is probably perfect for him.
