St Johnstone v Ross County - 15/5/24

My feeling is Levein will look at Livingston's two goals as justification for going with a more defensive set-up, and revert immediately to his old ways. So Gordon, McGowan and Considine all starting in the middle of a back five, Sidibeh on his own up front, Clark pointlessly in midfield, and May back on the bench.

Really hope we get a big, supportive crowd for this one that gets right behind the team, but I'm not feeling hopeful about how things are going to turn out.

Levein sounded quite happy with the performance on Saturday, so he might stick with something similar, if not exactly the same.

I'd be fine with that, if he managed to use substitutions as and when required. If he did, I'd fancy our chances.

I was thinking that if Clark had been played in his correct position since he returned from injury, he might have been more up to speed and would have been able to take those chances at the weekend.

Hopefully no square pegs in round holes on Wednesday.

Their attack is a concern, if our defence continue to play like they've only just met for the first time.

Sven is a miss again because he would be able to look after threats like Murray or Dhanda.

Jordan White is another that could cause us problems.

On the positive side, their defence isn't as good as their attack, and will hopefully be a bit shaky after the big loss to Motherwell.

Get at them from the start, like we did at Livi, and keep at them, even if we do go ahead.

Get a bit of a cushion in case we lose our heads again in the second half, when the players tire, and the manager forgets that he's allowed to use subs.

So, same again, and if he uses replacements wisely, we win this.

I didn't make the game on Saturday, but by all accounts we offered much more in an attacking sense. As this game is a must win, I hope he continues with the same system. The 3-5-2 still leads to us losing goals and we don't create anything, so we would be as well to continue with the system that we played on Saturday that enabled our players to offer much more in an attacking sense and just hope that we can cut out the defensive errors that were our downfall against Livi.

I just hope that we put up some sort of a fight and try to take the game to Ross County. If we lose an early goal and put in similar displays as we did in recent home games against Hibs and Killie it will just be grim.

I have been as vocal as most on here about not wanting Levein as our manager, but given what is at stake now, we all need to put our opinions to one side and get behind the team as much as possible on Wednesday night.

A team that can't defend set plays or crosses. We are ****ed.

That's the worry.

Which is why I'm saying we should try and put pressure on their dodgy defence from the start, to hopefully get a bit of breathing space, in case the weekend's problems happen all over again.

County have won only once away from home beating Killie 1-0 back in early September.

Law of averages ?.

The phrase "a leopard never changes its spots" comes to mind with this group of players and management. I can't see the ability to hold a lead or come back from going one down. I am full to the brim with misery so I think our playoff place will be confirmed on Wednesday night and it's all downhill from there.

County will know they only need one performance to stay in the league, a position we should have been in after Saturday.

I really hope I am wrong.

At least there will be a moment of positivity before the game:

"Our under-18s will receive their Club Academy Scotland Performance League trophy before Wednesday evening’s Scottish Premiership fixture against Ross County.

The young team are scheduled to be presented with the trophy and medals around 7.30pm and so it would be appreciated if supporters could make their way to their seats as early as possible.

The U18s recently secured the title by finishing the campaign strongly with wins against both Ayr United and Dundee.

Alistair Stevenson, head of our youth academy, has sent out the rallying call for as big a crowd as possible to attend the game and make the occasion an extra special one for the talented crop of youngsters.

“The presentation will take place in front of the Main Stand 15 minutes before kick-off,” Stevenson said. “They will receive their trophy and medals for winning the U18 league.

“That was a great achievement and I’m sure they will enjoy getting the credit for it. It would be great to get as many as the fans in as possible to give them a cheer.”"
