Radford 72
I don't think what VAR would do should ever be used as a barometer in terms of a correct decision. Without trying to get too much into the physics of it, for me Essel came off the ground to give himself the projection to then make the tackle in a second motion. He didn't dive two-footed AT the Brechin player and certainly didn't catch him badly with the tackle action. He can't lunge like that as there is too much risk involved but taking that challenge on its own merits, it wasn't nearly as bad as the video maybe makes it look. Elderslie Saint
Given this is the definition referees use to decide whether to award a red I think Mr Essel will have to be issued with some serious chill pills...

Sorry Radford, not often I disagree with you, but it looked a red "live" and it doesn't look any better when you see the video. 2 footed, off the ground, looks a bit lunge'y....just won't get away with that any more. The crowd reaction at any league game would get you sent off if nothing else.  garydavidson
blueheaven
I thought it looked like a red at the time and seeing that video hasn't done much to change my mind. Actually pretty amazed at how far away from the ball he is when he leaves the ground, and bearing in mind the ball is still moving at that point, how far he needs to travel through the air to reach it (and the player). Wonder if he's ever considered entering the triple jump? Elderslie Saint
RandomGuy
From what little I saw of him in Ghana, he's actually pretty good at pulling off a clean tackle using that technique. His issue will definitely be VAR though. There's zero chance he pulls off that tackle in Glasgow and doesn't get a red.
Cagey
Good luck to the under 21s tonight. Hopefully Sven gets to captain them again and he and a few young lads show they are good enough for the first team. Valakari oh oh

Melbourne Saint
Regarding Essel's red, does that suspension carry to the senior team? I like him btw, raw, but talented

PSJ.84
Battled well so far. Would probably say East Fife are on top but Hepburn hasn’t had much to do.

Thought Parker, Kirk and Cocks were good. Essel seemed lost at times and although the kids did well their lack of physical strength showed through. PSJ.84
Actually thought Essel was alright, even if he was playing in second gear most of the time. Hopefully they find the right loan for Liam Parker. I was impressed by him again but the biggest question will be over his physicality rather than ability and whether he can bulk up or not.  Can’t even watch Saints’ youngsters without being subjected to watching Nicky Clark play in midfield. It went as well as it has done for the first team.

Good in the air and the penalty box and playing anywhere else totally ruins that. PSJ.84
