Sainteesean
Makes sense that McPherson has been poor for Saints. Played out of position at the centre of the park and clearly a right winger. Edited August 11, 2024 by Sainteesean
Cleveland-Saint
Think we are going to start catching teams out early in games more than the past with these front 2 and others. Killie looked caught off guard by not just our speed, but intensity right off the bat. Three years of suggish, grinding saints was a rather different proposition today. Keeper made quite a bad flap late in the game, still a worry I think. Hope he has a coach helping him with decision making in the box and focus. Todays clean slate a good building block, but Killie had two off the post and a clear header, games like today may often be closer and one keeper error could cost us. Screaming for subs earlier again, would love to just understand the 'why' we don't freshen sooner. Assume its a chess game and you are waiting for the other manager to make his moves, but is it really that complicated when we have 10 fresh legs ready to roll? Want to add, we are actually playing football, its a nice feeling, Im enjoying watching saints again. That build up for the penalty was of the highest quality and Smith is something else. pezza70
A great 3 points, our strikers look hungry and considering we are very much a work in progress it’s great to pick up some early points for a change too. I reckon we would’ve won that regardless of the sending off. Killie suffering from playing in Europe as we know all too well about. We’re by no means a good side yet, but we’ve got two or three very good players who will cause problems for most teams in this league. We have a goal threat , something we haven't had for years. That makes other teams less likely to push up lessening their threat. Football is a game of confidence and fear. Hopefully a few more good results will give us confidence and we will not play with the fear we had last season. Hope we don't lose Sidebeh as the threat is him and Benji. They were both here the second half of the season and they werent quite as effective playing one up front. blueheaven
Obviously a fantastic result, probably helped by Killie having a European hangover, but I'm not sure our teams of the last two or three years would have been so well equipped to take advantage of that. Kimpioka and Sidibeh a big handful, Raymond continues to look a cracking addition to the team, and Matt Smith is really making us tick at the moment. Agree with previous comments about the continued frustration around our late use of subs. However the whole MacPherson situation has definitely taken a lot of the shine off it for me. Under the circumstances I find it very hard to enjoy the result as I normally would. I was fine with the statement Saints released, all things considered, but I strongly felt he should not have been involved in the game yesterday. By starting him, a lot of people's feelings have been completely ignored and it feels like the club has just decided they see this as an inconvenient blip to get out of the way quickly in the hope that we all just forget about it. I won't be forgetting about it and I don't think others will either. Also, for me, putting him in the starting line-up provides just another piece of evidence that Craig Levein doesn't really understand or relate to our club or our fans. I'm not even sure it was the right thing to do for the player himself. Just on the requests for the thread to be re-opened: I'm fine with that but it's @Jamie_Beatson's call as it's his website and he made the decision to close it. garydavidson and Strawman

Linky
We were outstanding. Don't think I've seen us play that well in the league since the double season. Killie, might have european hangover, they got a player sent off (but that's because he couldn't deal with the strikers), but that doesn't take anything away from the performance. I agree about the substitutions, but I think the tactic is to ensure that we don't concede in the last 10 minutes (which has often been a problem for us) by putting Kirk & Clark on at that point and defend from the front. That's wasted if they come on earlier. Similarly, bringing Carey on allows him to slow things down and stretch out the game. I don't think any of these choices are random. Politics aside, MacPherson definitely the weak link. Sanders and Rae looked decent though. Smith excellent. Essel ensuring he keeps his head. Neilson coming into things. The trio of Raymond, Kimpioka and Sidebeh is the key. Levein said he wanted pace this season, and that's what we have and we haven't had for some time. For too long we've been one dimensional, and started slowly. This time Killie didn't know what had hit them, and we were already 2-0 up. Was pleased that, with a young team, we then had the sense to play out the game. For all those saying "why didn't Levein go for it - too defensive", again, we just won 3-0 away from home for the first time in 3 and a half years. You play to win, and manage the game. If they get 1 goal, and the crowd get the behind them then it can quite easily go the other way. lindz105, PerthSaint01, Valakari oh oh and 2 others

pezza70
The best thing watching for me was I thought Wright was pretty quiet. Who would of thought we score three goals and our attack is looking dangerous, but no mention of his name by anyone, hopefully we can get him back to his best which gives us another threat down his side of the field. Papa Jack
I thought it was a pretty decent performance. Killie are too good (and we're not good enough) for us to be dominating the whole game but I never thought they cut us open at any point and we were always quite conformable. The usual suspects getting a bit vocal halfway through the 2nd half...always weird how you never hear them when we were 2 nil/3 nil up and cruising. Muirton Saint
I think Wright's been quiet the last few games due to not having a Keltjens type FB behind him. He definitely looked better in the 442. R.B.B:- Adz, blueheaven and WLSaint712
