Just before last season ended he told the papers he was "happy to see the natural order being restored" with Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, and the two Dundee sides, in the top flight this season while "teams who battle relegation every season, punching above their weight like St Johnstone and Livingston" were looking like being relegated.

That's right. What a mental thing to say.

I'm sure there was also something else before that which annoyed me, but that on its own is more than enough.

Only thing I disagree with is that we should avoid a young and hungry manager. If we could unearth the equivalent of Derek McInnes or Paul Sturrock when they started out with us, I'd very happily take that. If a manager wants to use Saints as a stepping stone I'm absolutely fine with that, as long as it brings us success and puts us back on the right path.

I agree, but my point was that I don't believe that's what we need right now.

For example, when McInnes was appointed, we were in decent shape and looking up rather than the constant battle we seem to be in now.

I think at this time, we need somebody that's been there and done it.

We're always likely to be a stepping stone for both managers and players.

But again, right now, I feel we're more in need of experience and stability.

Of course, if the board unearth a young star of a manager, who turns out to be a great success, then I'll be delighted to be proved wrong.

Yeah I'd be happier with a manager who has the drive to reach a higher level, rather than one who thinks we're the best they'll manage.

It's all about getting momentum and you can keep that while changing managers. We don't need someone to be here 5 years to get that back.

Coyle was only with us for about 2 years, and ~70 games, yet gave the club a momentum that lasted 15/16 years.

Having 3 managers in 8 years because they're moving onto better things is different to 3 in 8 years because they're getting sacked.

Fair point.

That's why I'd like some kind of succession plan in place.

So if a new regime is successful, we keep the momentum going and don't have to start from scratch all over again.

You do know whoever we bring in young or old if they get offered a decent job they will be gone.. the main point being if they are getting offered a better job elsewhere after a year or two it means they have done a good job for us and will leave us in a good position hopefully going forward. If u are looking for a sir alex style of management who will spend a lifetime at the club u will be setting yourself up for hurt, they days of football are well gone. Young ambitious manager looking to craft a name for himself is exactly what we need in my opinion, we have just tried the old been there done it style of manager and look at the state we are in now. Alex neil would be my first pick, i think his time down the road is almost done and Jody would be my second.

I was probably being too subtle with my hints.

I was basically stating my opinion that the man for the job is Tommy Wright.

By listing the credentials required, and then discounting others, the idea is that you eventually get to the point where he's the only viable option left.

Maybe Ian Murray being out of a job is part of the natural order of things?

"Murray has been one of the names linked with the vacant St Johnstone job following the sacking of Craig Levein.

"I’m like any manager, I am open to any offer," Murray said.

"It’s sad when someone loses their job but that’s the nature of the business that we are in. Unfortunately, you are always waiting for someone to leave and you might have an opportunity.

"There will be more when the domino effect kicks in, which I probably started this season. You have to be ready and I am ready. I didn’t need a rest. I’ve had my rest in the summer, so it wasn’t like I needed to recharge my batteries.

"I have got a lot coming up in the next couple of weeks, which is really, really good - all football related - so I’m really looking forward to all of that. But if a job comes up before that then fantastic.""

Just noticed that the BBC have taken the bait, and included David Marshall's photograph in their story on who the fans want. 😂

Good work whoever that is. 👍

We shouldn’t encourage and enable those fools.

They are definitely in on the joke. Good work on both sides.

Interesting to see how much a new manager will need to be seen to fit the profile of the St Johnstone project as envisioned by the owner. To be honest, I do not think that Craig had any interest in fitting the mould. Not his thing which I do not think did him any favours.

To be honest, I like the idea of breathing new life into our somewhat tired vision and believe that all the key players are on the same hymn sheet.

Levein on Sportsound today - despite KennyMac trying to stir things up ("Is there anything going on behind the scenes with the new owner?  Did you get on with Adam Webb?" etc) Avril didnt rise to the bait. Seems to think hes left us with a decent squad but results got him the boot.

Saving it for his podcast maybe 🤔 but also it wouldn't be that great to be slagging off a guy that's just had a cancer diagnosis.

He did the job he was brought in to do. We have a better squad than the one that he inherited from Macca and if he continues to show respect for the club and its decision then I don't think it was near as bad an appointment as some others believe.

Now is the time to look for someone that can bring in fresh optimism and give us some stability for the next few seasons.

I have seen a lot say this, so it's not a did at you, but if he did the job he was brought in to do he wouldn't have been sacked. He wasn't on a deal to the end of the season he had three years.

He left the goalkeeping position weaker than when he inherited it and midfield was an utter mess in the last transfer window.

He kept us up last season but he didn't do the job he was brought in to do and was therefore sacked.

Tiernan Lynch, the boss of Larne in the Northern Irish Premiership, is now second favourite at some bookies.

I've no idea if they have some inside information, but it seems to be a bizarre shout if they've not heard anything.

Lynch, along with McGlynn, Tommy and Martindale seem to be the four frontrunners according to them.
