Saints v Hamilton, Scottish Cup, Saturday 8th February 2025

Recommended Posts

Decent money for the winner of this tie, minimum £100,000 plus £30,000 tv money.

£150,000 for loosing semi final plus tv money and £400,000 to the winner and £250,000 to the runner up plus tv money.

With attendances increasing as the rounds progress there's a chunk of money involved.

We need to be on our game but this tie is winnable and there is one non SPFL team guaranreed in the last 8 draw.

A couple of good performances and we are back at Hampden.

Hoping we see as many of our new players starting this game as possible. A chance for everyone to get some competitive action under their belts before we get back to league business.

Will be really interesting to see how these players all fit in and line up. Back three of Mitchell, Balodis, Mikulic? Douglas at LWB, or does Duke-McKenna go there? Sprangler, Watt and Griffth in central midfield with two strikers in front of them? Do we give Sidibeh a start in this one to try to keep building his form? Where does Drey Wright fit in? And Svedberg? And Carey? Suddenly, it feels like we have actual, real, competitive options!

I imagine he sticks with his 5221 formation, we will look immense defensively Duke and Carey in the hole behind Kirk?

Really looking forward to this.   As above, It will be nice to see as many new players thrown in as possible.

Some really good selection headaches too, I'm struggling to pick an 11 that doesn't leave someone out that probably shouldn't be.

How are we going to keep all those superstars happy and involved ?.

I am a bit perplexed re some of the negativity being shown towards  Benji Kimpioka  . He played a significant part in keeping saints up last season and although his  form has recently dipped he is still one of our best players. He is perfectly entitled to turndown the option to renew his existing contract and as far as i am aware he has not asked for a transfer. I hope he is back in the squad for the cup game and gets a good reception from the fans. He is almost certainly going to be leaving at end of the season but between now and them can be a very important player i we are to  pull off the great escape .

Agree with most of this, but Simo watches him training every day, and will know if he’s committed or not, we can’t afford passengers in our situation

That's the crux of it. Actively pursuing a move elsewhere is completely his business and I'd wish every player the best if luck in this.

However downing tools would be unacceptable and while there has been no clear evidence of this we'll certainly find out in the coming weeks.

Benji perhaps could take a lesson from Liam Craig. Yeah he signed a pre-contract with Hibs but he never once took the foot off the gas, played right up to the last game and earned the fan's respect.

I think they might just go the same as planned v St Mirren, tbh.

So probably...

Fisher

Curtis - Balodis - Mikulic - Douglas - Wright

Carey - Sprangler - Watt - Griffith

Kirk

Think he'll want to control the game and not get reckless early now we have some momentum. Ideally you then bleed the likes of Svedberg and Duke-McKenna in when you're already in control.

But honestly could see him completely changing it up since well be more on the front foot in this game.

Yeah I'm expecting him to start Sidibeh in this one and maybe go with two up front. It feels like he's earned the chance and if he can get a goal in this one it could really boost his form going into the second half of the season. I'd also like to see as many of the new signings start as possible so that they get some game time under their belts - particularly the defenders who really need to start playing together. I wonder if this might be an obvious game to rest Douglas in as well.

Obviously very difficult to predict but I thought perhaps something like this ...

___________________Fisher

__________Mitchell Balodis Mikulic

Curtis ______Sprangler Watt_______ Wright

__________________Griffith

_______________Kirk Sidibeh

At long last we're going to have a much stronger bench, with Carey, Holt, Douglas, Kimpioka, Duke-McKenna, Svedberg, Raymond, Steven, Franczak and Clark all among those not included in the XI above. It's like night and day compared to the team/squad we started the season with.

Pretty much what I was going to post, so you've saved me the bother. Cheers!

Two of those will be disappointed to not even get on the bench , plus Bengi, Max and McPake. Some might say a good problem to have but you can't keep everyone happy.
