Many moons ago I had a MySpace. The aim was to grow it out to 1884 "friends" and give it to the club, having told them to get on social media because it was the future. Still online by the looks of it https://myspace.com/stjohnstone (noteable person in the top 8!) The club could barely manage a website, so in 2008 they were not sure they would have managed MySpace. That also explains my handle on here... for better or worse! Edited February 2 by MySpazz pezza70

Gekko
I've just realised I've started a thread without actually starting a thread. 😂 Thanks to BH, Linky or whatever mod made it happen. It was going off topic right enough, apologies. While I'm here though, T.O.S. mentioned that he had a backup of his site, I wondered if the old Blue Heaven site had something similar. I understand the logistics of a forum are far more complicated than an HTML site, but I just wondered. I used to post occasionally, under a different username, and it would be interesting to find out what kind of rubbish I was coming away with 20 years ago. There were some good posters in those days. Victor used to always make me laugh. MySpazz

Victor used to always make me laugh. No worries! I don't have any back-ups of anything, sorry. I don't even have any archives of the old BH site, which I originally started as a Saints news/features site, because when I updated it back then I used to just over-write whatever was previously on there. There's some stuff on archive.org but it's pretty limited. There have been a few different forums etc over the years - St Johnstone.net had one, then the official Saints site used to have one which ended up being taken down because of concerns about anything controversial being said. Then I ran the BH forum, which became known as Saints Chat for a while, which eventually became WAP when the two Jamies took it on. I only just noticed a week or so ago that there's a Saints chat community on Reddit which is fairly active. And of course there's the Facebook banter page and Pie & Bovril. I still miss the days of the Saints Mailing List which was a lot of fun. I do sometimes wonder where a lot of the more prolific old posters ended up going. Even if you look way back on this site, or on the list of users with the most posts, you'll see a lot of names that used to post a lot but vanished a long time ago. I guess some will have died but that won't account for everyone. Obviously social media has been damaging for forums like this one. I do find it really odd when I see people preferring to use the Facebook Banter page who used to post on here, but each to their own I suppose! Gekko
My own personal preference is for this type of forum format. I'm a member of many facebook groups, but they don't have the same flexibility about them. On a forum, you can narrow it down to the one point, and concentrate on that thread only, ignoring the ones that are not of any interest to you. On facebook, it's all just bunched together and you get everything whether you like it or not. I was going to join the banter page, but my mate said not to bother, because, and this is a direct quote from him, it's just filled with absolute rockets! A pal of mine started an Invision forum a while back for his wee niche hobby. It got decent traffic, around 200 a day. Most of them were regular posters as well. It caused him no end of problems though. Every time there was an upgrade, it would wipe out the entire database. He always had a backup thankfully, but he used to tear his hair out with it. Eventually, he moved to a facebook group. No hosting costs, and none of the drama. But again, having said all that, I still prefer this format to any other social media alternative. Gekko
As for the old posters, who don't seem to be around anymore. Yes, obviously, a few will have crossed over. I think Panama Saint and was it Ronaldo? Who were two that it was announced had gone. R.I.P. to both of course. There was also another guy, who was in Cyprus if I recall correctly. Real moaner, used to get on my nerves because everything he said was opposite to what I believed. I wasn't posting at the time, so never got the chance to debate with him. Again, if he has gone to the big Muirton Suite in the sky, my best wishes go with him. Like I say, I prefer this format to the facebook style. Facebook by the way, is getting so bad recently that it's practically unusable. I suppose social media is the reason most of the old posters aren't here anymore. Shame though. Sign of the times and all that.

I'm sure I was only at around 50 posts on the old BH site. 101 Saint, he was a lad. Remember Andy in France as well? What happened to these people? Banned obviously, but I thought they'd make a comeback in another guise. I'm just thinking...Albert Tatlock. Was that not 101? Then something like 25E Ainslie Place. I'm sure it was the same person. blueheaven
Totally agree, forums like this one are miles better for actual discussion. Following any group on Facebook is always a pain in the arse because the algorithms pick and choose what you get to see, and the order you get to see it in, and way too many of the comments that you do see are just people being rude to each other or coming out with one-line kneejerk reactions. We get the occasional heated discussion on here but in general I think people are far, far more respectful of each other. Gekko
The best of all was Lomas, when he came on as "The Saintee". That might be the wrong handle, but that's what I remember. It was so obviously him, sitting there, raging in his Travelodge. Ripping it out of the board for not giving him enough money. Agree with folk about Facebook—an awful place, and there's no real "archive," so you only get a diatribe of comments, opposed to anything else. I remembered, Johnny B was his username. I just checked and he hasn't signed in for a couple of years, which doesn't bode well. All the best to him. But it's odd that other users just randomly disappear. Don McVicar was very active round about Christmas and new year, and checking now, they haven't signed in for about a month. Of course, it's everybody's right to post or not to post, but I just find it weird that you start posting regularly, then stop for no apparent reason. And while I recognise that some will obviously have gone to the big Muirton Park in the sky, some disappear for a few years, then come back, then go again. I'm just curious why?
