poang Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Early days but I'm not convinced by this keeper at all. Hope he goes on to prove me wrong. sane_tee 1 Quote

GOB10 Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Not sure i like the look of this keeper already. Looks very sus!. And Svedberg is shocking. Never seen a good game from him. Hopefully young lloyd comes on and gives us something to cheer about. Quote
Tattie-bogle Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Midfield are both neither far enough back or far enough forward just sitting in no man's land. It's impossible for us to get forward Also stop that ball from keeper to CM....just stop it Quote
california_saintee Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 (edited) Things looked much better in the last 25 minutes, but I can't tell how much of that was due to United subbing their entire team, and how much was the change in midfield. But Svedburg and Griffith look like failed gambles. I wouldn't be unhappy if they moved on. Sidebeh's confidence has been shot for over a year now. I'll give the new faces (esp. central defense & the keeper) the benefit of the doubt for now, despite how shaky they look. Get the cheque book out for Mallan. SlickDT Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Mallan well worth a deal. Very impressed with Bright. He looks ready to be part of the first team. Really hope Kirk stays. He will score lots of goals at this level. Would like to see an experienced keeper brought in. Worthwhile run out. IBEX1251 and Broggy Man 1 1 Quote
Gekko Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 (edited) Mallan did enough to justify a contract there I'd say. Baird likes a back pass. Diabate seems decent enough. I could go on, but it's hard to gauge how well players did in a friendly like this. Was that Goodwin in Kirk's ear as he went off? He shook hands with everybody else, then had a long chat with him. Saw that as well. Hopefully nothing in it but if Utd match our valuation nothing we can do about it. As for the game it was a lot better in the 2nd half. Thought Adama was unlucky not to score - ironically the more difficult chance was the one that came closest. Definitely more impressive once he links with Kirk. Mallan was good. Assuming his fitness is OK then I'd give him a year. Rest of the midfield was disappointing especially in first half. Griffith and Stanton were better than before but lacked composure on the ball. Svedberg was anonymous. Steward needs to learn he's not going to get as much time on the ball. Diabate was slow and got caught out for pace a few times. Thought Scott Bright looked good though. Quote
Roxy Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Liked Stanton and Svedberg as sitting midfielders who are primarily ballers but who can put in a tackle. Griffith was awful. Mallan and Kirk were great. Didn't create much but much preferred when we kept it on the deck. Quote

blueheaven Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Not a fan of that formation at all and don't see how it can work with what we have. Neither Steven nor Franczak looked comfortable as wing-backs and none of our strikers are suited to playing through the middle on their own. If Simo is planning on persisting with a lone central striker then that's a worry for me. I get that friendlies are for trying out different things but by this stage I'd have liked to see us looking a bit more settled and generally playing with more flow and purpose. Big improvement when Sprangler and Holt came on as they both started winning balls and showing some urgency which allowed our whole team to drive further up the park. Svedberg, by comparison, has some nice touches on the ball but just looks really lacking in any sort of drive or tempo. I really struggle to see where he can fit into this team when we're so much more effective when Sprangler and Holt are on the pitch and taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Mallan showed some real class at times and I thought he played a lot like Graham Carey, only seven years younger and with better movement and without the moaning at his team mates. He also looked fitter than our other players which is perhaps a bit of a worry given they've been through a full pre-season while he hasn't had a club for a year. Really hope we can get a deal done for him because he looked a level above most of our other players tonight. I think we might be in for some frustrating Saturdays with this team trying to break down Championship defences. I just hope we manage it, even if that means a season of underwhelming 1-0 wins. Quote
Cagey Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Hope we can sign Mallan, good with set pieces and corners . Comfortable on the ball and lasted 90 mins considering he hasn't played for a while apparently. Game changed when Sven and Holt came on and we went 3 at the back instead of 5. R.B.B:- Adz 1 Quote

Other midfielders sitting on the sideline(or even worse the stand) will only bite their tongue for so long if he is keeping them out of the team. If it means we can sign Mallan and keep Kirk I’d be delighted for Ikpeazu and Svedberg to move on - however I suspect we will miss out on Mallan and Ikpeazu/Svedberg are here to stay. CAH Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 Verdict: Same as Falkirk match - First half poor, Second half much better. Goalie - a bit suspect. Bright - bright. Svedberg - needs punted. Mallan - worth a punt. Sidebeh - needs to get his head up. Kirk - good but think we can count him out (£££). Lloyd - didn't put a foot wrong. The rest - average performances. sane_tee 1 Quote
