R.B.B:- Adz Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 Alvarez is another player at a good age, but with a bit less in the way of first team experience. Looks like he could be a useful addition in terms of his versatility. Quote
sideline Posted June 17 Report Posted June 17 I remember in the Ormond era the chant about we have Freddie, Freddie Aitken on the wing. The new Spanish guy might be more difficult to integrate into a chant with a name like that!! Should the ability to fit into a chant not form part of our signing criteria? Quote

Where does that leave Chalmers , Todd and Steven. Alvaraz looks like a decent signing , two footed , can play left or right scored 12- goals in 13 games at the tail end of last season for a relegated team. Replacement for McPake . Now replacement for Steward please. Quote

How about ‘that’s Amore’ - something with 3 syllables when the ball hits the net from a cross from the left thats Alvarez a first off the cuff effort 🥴 Quote

Isn’t Todd a central midfielder or right back? From the vids I've seen, Alvarez is a right winger that can drift centrally. He's stepping up massively, needs a lot of time in the gym. I suspect Jordi had something to do with this... at least he's got someone to talk to. Left winger, striker and goalie next on the list... Edited June 17 by Melbourne Saint Quote
pezza70 Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Is he from div 3 in Spain? This could be a new Miggy signing for us way out of left field Quote
Roxy Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 That's a lot of exciting attacking players, and it looks like he will stick to his 4231 not revert to 5221, excellent Quote

Mizfit Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 Been impressed with the signings so far. Think we’ve a good few more to go. Have heard that Steward should be here soon as well, which worried me as I do feel that we need a permanent No. 1 Quote

He’ll no be on that much at Port Vale. Anyway, he wants to come as he’s heard we’ve sold 2350 season tickets…. This signing could really turn the tide in terms of the feel good factor after the season ticket debacle. The club will be hamming this up to the max and rightly so. A great signing. I wonder if we sold, say, 3,200 season tickets coupled with the new home top set to break records……would the club stick to their guns with the 3 stands? mike_gain Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 1 hour ago, Melbourne Saint said: I thought it was in the region of £3,400? That's a huge amount for us Couple of things: a) speaking to folks I know from that part of the world, £3,400 would be pretty high for Port Vale. b) EFL has a wage cap (SCMP) so players, especially fringe players, will be facing a contractual wage cut anyway. I don't thing it's unreasonable to think Paton will fall into our wage structure, he might also take a wage hit to have a chance at enjoying playing regularly against better opponents than in league 2. Going by end of last season he'll be a great addition. Has a bit of that Steven MacLean swagger which we'll need. Quote
That_Dave Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 Paton's record when he signed for Vale wasn't that different to Fowler's when signed him. I doubt their salaries are that wildly different. Many contracts have a relegation clause which reduces the salary if they go down. That would also apply if it exists. Quote
Roxy Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 The impression I got was Port Vale paid off Patons contract to some extend so he could accept a lower wager with us. Quote

League 2 salary cap seems strict. Sometimes better to pay a player off so you can bring one in and stay under the cap Quote
