mike_gain Posted April 24 Report Posted April 24 Get a lucrative contract in front of Stanton ASAP. Simply outstanding for weeks now. Reminds me a lot of Murry Davidson, so often gets to a ball first. garydavidson, Norsaint, Havana Saint and 2 others 5 Quote
Mizfit Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 I’d be offering to Stanton, Paton (if we can sort out a deal with Port Vale) and Diabate right now. Id also try and extend Gullans deal while we’re at it. Havana Saint 1 Quote

Cagey Posted April 25 Report Posted April 25 Stanton has to be the priority and if its the comfort of a long term contract 'for him' then so be it. Quote
Cagey Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 Now that Saints season is almost over Simo will have a few weeks to look at Premiership players who are going out of contract. Quote

Northern saint Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 The first priority is to sign new contracts with those out of contract so we know the areas we need to cover. Steward's position may be that he will be featuring for Portsmouth next season but if they are looking for another loan to develop him then they may extend his contract before allowing him to remain with Saints hopefully. Defensively we need a right back, centre back and left back. My concern with our present ones are the lack of pace so a Balodis, Kerr, MacKay, Cherry types would be great. If Forrester is released by Hearts, no thank you. He is too slow to turn. Midfield moving Stanton into the middle means an opening for Steven or addition on the right. A creative player would be good. How we play up front will determine who we need. I don't see Paton remaining. Simo would probably like a Sidibeth clone but one who is more lethal in front of goal. Replacing McPake will be difficult but it does give the option for a more balanced attack. Let's hope we get a season from Lloyd without his injuries. The good thing is we should know answers this week so have the time to confirm our scouting and get the players we need in before pre-season starts. As for players released by the lower Premiership teams, I doubt many will improve on who we have and will have been recycled often. Some more rough diamonds from Latvia, Finland, England or Portugal would be great. Quote
HOODLUM65 Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 Thought the rumour mill had Stanton going to Falkirk? Quote
GORDON76 Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 Salary Sport has Paton on £3700 per week with Port Vale. If true, no chance if matching that. Quote

mike_gain Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 I'll beleive Stanton is staying when I see a picture of him signing. His family seems 100% his priority as it should be. If someone else suits them better then so be it. So happy such a difficult start to the season has ended up good on all fronts. Also glad the club kept a lid on it, presumably at his request. I do beleive he's nothing arranged with Falkirk yet though, I'm pretty sure the club and player would have given the opportunity to say farewell at some point this week. Paton will be a big ask, but I do think Steward would benefit from a season here. However we'll certainly be on the radar of more clubs/players looking for development or game time. Steward and Paton have realky given a great impression. The market we'll be in that could swing things in our favour. I mean for example we've got Simo and his Rock n Roll party bus while Dundee have Pressley and a banged up berry bus. Melbourne Saint 1 Quote
Cagey Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 Hopefully we won't have the same carry on as last season when we waited to the last minute for Uche to sign. We have to set time limits on offers. Quote

Cagey Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 Forrester recalled by Hearts. Makes sense as they still have 4 games and you never know with injuries and red cards at this stage in the season. Looks like he will miss out on the staff holiday. Quote

Cagey Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Noticed Bozo was on the bench on Friday. I wonder if Simo will want to sign him . We definitely need another centre half but not sure of his injury situation. Quote
Phil D Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 The next couple of weeks are going to be interesting in terms of squad building. The leadership showed a ruthless streak this time last year by releasing so many. This year there should be less to decide but there will be a few key decisions to make. I think the starting point will be what formation will we play? Simo has shown a willingness to play 3 central defenders against Premier League opponents - was this because of a lack of trust in the ability of the players or a belief that this formation allows for the style he wants to play? In goal, it will be interesting to see if Portsmouth are keen to extend Toby's loan or move him on - it makes sense that they would want him to stay and they were proactive and moved quickly to approach Saints last year. Would Saints want him or would they want someone more permanent? I would like to see a more experienced back up brought in to provide cover for both injury and drops in form. Sinclair doesn't seem to be that guy. So potentially 2 keepers need to be found. Central defence is interesting. Do we trust Bozo? Is a 6 month deal possible? Are Baird, Boyes and Diabate Premiership level. I would keep Boyes for his ability to play in a 3 at the back, Baird for his leadership, but Diabate I am lower on. I like his heading ability but feel he needs to have a leader beside him - I think he worked well with Baird keeping him in check. I wouldn't be upset if he got a decent money offer to go back to England. I think we need a strong leader defender - Bozo could be that and we need a Premiership experienced defender to rely on. I would love to see Zach Mitchell back from Charlton for the season as well, his passing ability would fit well with our style. I would like to see a left back and a right back come in so that Foulds and Smith are back ups too. I think further ahead of the field is more settled. I can see us looking for someone to tag team with Holt and eventually replace him. I can see McAlear and Stanton starting initially. Gullan should get opportunities to carry his for over and I'm hoping Paton returns. We would hope that Fowler copes with the step up too and I guess rotation with the others gives them an opportunity to step up but again will depend on the formation we start with. Width will be interesting - whether that comes from full backs or from wingers? Interesting decisions to be made! Quote
