Burghsaintee Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 The opening ceremony of the Olympics in China was amazing. The London organisers have a big job on their hands to compete with that. Quote

Scobby_SJFC Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I hate opening ceremonies, they all look the same and are a waste of money that could be spent on better things!! Quote

Scobby_SJFC Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Andy Murray out to a nobody in the singles!!! Quote
Dennistoun Saint Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Good, means he can now focus on tennis matches that actually matter. Tennis, like football, means sweet F.A at the Olympics. He is in fantastic form at the moment and hopefully will get some rest and good preparation in for the US Open. Quote
stanley saint Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 he was shocking, but fair do that guy was playing pretty good. Quote

Noose76 Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Andy Murray is a greeting faced Hibee b******. Steve Maskrey Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 The organisers have admitted that part of the firworks display at the opening ceremony was recorded before the event and just to improve the television 'spectacle'. Also, bizarrely, they've admitted that the litle chinese girl who sang actually mimed and that the voice belonged to another girl of the same age. They felt the girl with the voice wasn't pretty enough to appear before the world's media so they got someone else to mime to her singing! Its been quite an impressive start to the Olympics for team GB. The 4x200m freestyle relay swim team is in with a great chance of winning a medal in the final and the team is made up of 3 Scots and 1 Englishman. Its unlikely the medal will be gold as the US will have Michael Phelps in their team as part of his 8 gold medal target and so far, looks unlikely that anyone will stop him. GB should see more medals come their way this weekend with the finals in Rowing and also the Cycling starts in the Velodrome. Chris Hoy and his mates should come away with quite a few golds. I think, for the first time we're seeing returns for the huge investment put in for the competitors and could very well be GB's best ever games Quote
Dev Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Anyone know why we're known as Great Britain in the Olympics? Surely all this Team GB stuff is a little unrepresentative. Quote
Scobby_SJFC Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Whats the difference again between united kingdom and great britain? is it the channel islands and isle of mann? Quote
mapleleaf Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 One thing that is really irking me is the reffing in the boxing competition. The refs are totally useless, more often getting in the way of the boxers than anything else. Also, the judging is a farce. It always has been, mind you, regardless of the system in use. There must be a better way. But the refs are the big problem at this Games. Hugh Dallas would be a superstar in Beijing! Smudge Quote
Steve Maskrey Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Michael Phelps has just become the greatest Olympian of all time after winning his 10th and 11th gold medals in the Olympics, his 4th and 5th of these games and he still has 3 more races to go! And he's only 23! An amazing feat and doesn't look like being beaten anytime soon. In the individual 200m Freestyle he had problems with his goggles but still went on to break his own world record! Quote
Dev Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Whats the difference again between united kingdom and great britain? is it the channel islands and isle of mann? I refer you to your passport - it says on it 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'. Great Britain refers to Scotland, England and Wales. As far as I can see, we should really be competing as the UK rather than GB. Quote

Steve Maskrey Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Rebecca Adlington's on course to win her 2nd gold this time in her favoured event, 800m Freestyle. She won her heat and broke the Olympic Record at the same time and still looked fairly comfortable Quote
