  1. Taken from the front of Cherrybank primary School.
  2. Then you worked for one of my family! Grandfather Hugh Campbell set up the the South St shop with his brother Davy and he later bought the Aleck Thompson business. There could have been many Miss Campbell s, What year was that?
  3. This is my grandfather's first shop. His father was drowned in 1897 off Arbroath and his mum had him and his brother Davy serve apprenticeships as grocers with the Co-op. This is pre war but by then they had opened as Campbell Bros. Granddad Hugh is in the middle with the very severe centre parting, Davy is on his right and cousin Jimmie Campbell to his right. They owned the first Model T Ford lorries in Perth and, as he could drive, Hugh was sent to Salonika in 1915 to command a transport company supplying the troops fighting the Turks.
  4. This was my grandfathers shop. Hugh Campbell bought the business from Aleck Thompson in 1937 along with the house above, the two shops further up the Old High St and the tenement above. My father David ran it from 1946 until he retired and sold up. It was "Once a Tree" for a while and I think it is a toy shop now.
  5. There are at least two people still alive who know about the Kerr's Cafe painters.
