  1. So why is this affecting Setanta's level of subscribers now? Surely people would wait until the end of this coming season?

Or is it that setanta have been splashing the cash on products they simply can't afford to pay.

Two points here, Setanta are a business virtually funded entirely by debt, their current business model is currently flawed in that break even (never mind profit) is based on 2M subscribers while they have only ever peaked at 1.2M. So it's not that it is just affecting them now it will continue to affect them unless their subscriber base (on full package) increases to 2M.

The banks and funders of Setanta could only restructure the debt into a debt for equity model which would basically ruin the current shareholders and this doesn't hide the fact that a huge marketing and purchasing campaign would need to be paid for to increase subscribers. The catch here is that there is very little in terms of popular sport packages to persuade cutomers to subscribe. I would doubt that they could raise a fraction of the capital they need to stave off the inevitable.

My opinion is that the only winner will be Murdoch basically due to the stable business model he operates and that funding on huge debt ratios is massively risky which has been proven with the over the top gearing Setanta has employed.

  2. I don't understand why it has to be a competition. I also don't understand how you can say a man who's just won a league the Saints were expected to win is a better manager than one who's just overcome financial adversity to win a place in the 'best league in the world'.

Time may prove McInnes to be the better man, but it would be hard to find someone who's stock is higher than Coyle's in British football at this moment in time.

100% agree, they're both good young managers with Coyle having the higher profile. His achievements on a miniscule budget is highly laudible. I suspect that Del maybe up there some day as well...............

  3. Members of our board also think Jim Ballantyne is a decent bloke, word on the street was that they were enjoying the lapdancing bar that Mr Ballantyne own's in Glasgow just a little bit too much, last Saturday!

Shocking behaviour if true but are these just scurrilous allegations from a jealous dog lover woof woof........down Jake............

  4. I get eczema so will go fake beard myself - think that some of the Letham Taliban will be full beard tho.

Betty Lavette - full Brazilian i suspect.

Lionel Itchie, .... I can assure you a full Brazilian is on the cards along with a matching (up to a ) Grand from my Muskegon love nest Biscuit Tin...............

    Get it up ye..............

    Saintees here, Saintees there...............

  5. Maybe Jay Rodriguez from Burnley?

That's an interesting shout, I liked the look of him at Stirling, so he has been loaned out before. I think he has been getting the odd first team game at Burnley which for a youngster is good going and certainly should be one to watch for the future..................

  6. This has managed to annoy the Dundee fans so much, it was a stroke of genius by the club. They are all threatening to write to the council to get our safety certificate revoked or to the SFL to get us a fine.

I must've been dreaming when there were Saints fans still standing outside Dens Park at 3:20pm in November.

Absolutely spot on, some people have short memories and I dont remember our fans complaining so vociferously after being severly delayed......... This doesnt happen if you arrive early.

The Ormond stand was always on stand by for this very outcome, it just happened that more Dundee fans came than was estimated by DFC. The situation arose partly because of so many late arrivals. The computer system would still indicate there was enough seats for all those standing......

  7. My dad has just suggested the following 2 names

    Geordie Marshall - Perth Celtic

    Laurie Spense - Fair City.

Apparently both great players but also had a liking for the bevvy.

Anyone confirm this or is my dad talking kack again?

Your dad's not talking "kack", both great players, heaven forbid that I would mention they take a bevvy. Another great player was Gegs Mackay at Fair City, brilliant natural striker.

  8. Grenland certainly haven't been relegated, they've just won the Second Division in Norway. The fans of RoPS seem confident that Kononen will be returning to Finland to play with them but I've heard different and I wonder is SS has as well?

Would this be the guy you are on about...........

“Perth voisi kyllä olla Könöselle hyvä osoite. Saints on ollut kuuden viime kauden aikana kolmasti kolmas ja kahdesti toinen skottidivarissa, ja pyrkii edelleen tosissaan takaisin liigaan. Joukkue myös hakee nimenomaan vasenta pakkia ja on testannutkin jo muutamaa pelaajaa paikalle. Könösen taas kannattaisi lähteä turskadivarista menemään”.

    Translation

Perth could well be a good home for Könösen. Saints have had six seasons in the first division and nearly made it, (on a few occasions), to the Scots premier league. The team is also looking for a left sided defensive player and the position has already been trialled by a few players. Könösen would leave Finland to go to Perth.

    Translation

Tuomo Kononen Left Back and was with MyPa in Finland in 2005. He's played for Finland six times where he played against teams such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the last on 25 January 2006 against South Korea.

Könönen is a typical "wing back", and he likes to get on the run along the edge to use his precise left foot. He is technically good and has a great work rate.

He came to Odd Grenland from the Finnish club MyPa on a Bosman before the 2006 season, and signed a three-year contract with Odd Grenland. He quickly established himself and stood up as one of the best players in season 2007.

Könönen so far has played 50 first team matches for Odd Grenland

  9. Could anyone give me a brief run through of prices for this? Would be for tomorrows match so quite urgent, can't find the required info on the site. thanks in advance.

    SheerLamb

Phone Paul Smith or Susan Weir on the general club number, they are very accomodating even on a Saturday morning and if there is space they will fit you in. As said before if you can do it, do it you'll have a great day..........................

  10. The opening ceremony of the Olympics in China was amazing.

The London organisers have a big job on their hands to compete with that.

I thought the whole ceremony was marred by a tardy bunch of pipers from scumdonia, have these Chinese no standards...........

  11. £9,769.75 at today's exchange rate, if Stewart Duff is reading this. Don't let the Norwegians fleece you out of a couple of hundred quid.

The change will be enough for some raw Herring rollmops and a few seal skin rugs for the new Perth flat/igloo.

I assume the £10K compensation is because he is still under contract to his current team till December, however they have just signed another left back (searching for name )............

  12. This has to be one of the best threads I've read for years. My worry is that I recognise every body that's been mentioned.

PC Muir was a legend, unfortunately he new my mum. I remember when you were in the back of the meat wagon he would get the thing up to 30 or 40 mph and them slam the brakes on.

He would take you home covered in bruises from the over zealous braking and rattling around in the back and genuinely be able to tell my mum, "honest I never touched the wee b******" mum would then apologise profusely for my behaviour and then proceed to fill in the spaces on my body where there were no bruises, classic. We need more polis like him back on the streets.............
