  1. Let's not get smug we have a rotten goals for tally which was typified by tonight's display more than half the game against the worst team in the league who with ten men go three at the back and we still can't score a second

no wonder people don't turn up.Our manager is happy to have his name linked with other teams our executive manager has been sacked we are about to spend huge amounts of money that we don't have on our pitch and our chairman says we face huge losses

    Reasons to be cheerful?

  2. Ferguson is unique and 25years have passed since the OF haven't won the league. Like the previous exception Jim Mclean he' has certain psychopathic elements to his personality but his record is fantastic.

David Beckham and his appalling wife took him on and in football terms lost yes they became a global brand but in footballing terms he has won **** all since he left utd So Dignity explain?

  3. bobby kemp bursting the net against Falkirk with a 25 yarder Big Buck bundling the goalie into the net 1-0 win against airdrie in cup quarter final Jim Kerray ballboy and stranraer left back in three man brawl in the sixties. Being 3 -0 up against Celtic in 30 mins felix Mcgrogan starring: harry fallon being stretchered off in first floodlight league match kicked in the head by willie wallace

ending up at Kirkcaldy with SS after Cowden cuptie cancelled and brawl with Raith Rovers fans hopefully not including his hero Gordon Brown

New Year at Gayfield Hangover blown to bits by east wind, hip flasks and Jimmy Jack

  4. i thought the only thing missing today was a finisher which in a way is the biggest worry.I thought the defence was excellent with the exception of grainger who just cant get to grips with his opponent. Fat Jim and Brown thought it was a cert 0-0 and thought the penalty was a joke, how do I know this players were drug tested and didnt come out till 630

We will finish above hamilton and st mirren providing we get a striker in january Milne away to Dundee? Griffiths here?

  5. 101 my point is that what you have by and large are opinions some reasonable some less so but that these opinions will not change what happens in the boardroom or dressing room so why invest so much time and effort into constant repetition of the same themes eg "Del must go"

One day he will but you will not have any influence on the timing.

Regarding the second issue re debates you treat these like personal battles learn the art of discourse without resort to petulant point scoring.accompanied by personal derision.Unless you are using the House of Commons as your model in which case there is no hope for you.

You clearly are a very loyal and knowledgeable Saints fan as are most on the forum so stop demeaning yourself by getting involved in petty squabbles.

  6. I don't think we do share much in common. Blue J wants us to spend money on wankers like Griffiths IIRC. I want us to put up prices and cut the wage budget!

I must admit I was very surprised that he slated Del as I always thought he took a contrary stance to me.

I think we're on Virgin. I can't get on at work. Most of my posts are on the laptop but about 30% are via the mobile which is O2.

Pretty desperate that you think I'm fishing. You might care to do more research within the club to find out whether it's fishing or I genuinely want McInnes and Alec punted. It won't take you long....

We have had good debates in the past. The debates always break down because people get personal with me or lose on a frequent basis. Not my fault that I'm irritating knowledgeable about this club.

I find this reply very interesting.

1.You seem to suggest that people within the club are aware of your opinions re the manager. This may well be so but your opinions carry no weight with the decision makers hence Del's new contract. GB thinks he is the club's biggest asset incidentally.

2.What are the parameters on which you base the outcome of a debate.?I would argue that it is for others to decide if you have "won or lost" Your use of personal remarks regarding club personnel and fellow forumers is of a similar frequency to most others.

3.All forumers have varying knowledge/interest in St johnstone My knowledge extends back fifty years up to the present day.I may be better informed about some aspects of the club, less so about others but I don't regard it as a competition........perhaps you should reflect on this.

  7. Perhaps he was simply the most honest, senior member of St Johnstone FC? His reputation tends to be exaggerated by our less intelligent and more awkward fans.

Absolutely spot on.And also exaggerated by our less intelligent and more awkward fellow directors and chairmean sorry chairman

  8. it is still true however that Duffer is the longest serving club employee in modern times and that should not go unrecognised by the fans. Not many people would put up with the crap he had to put up with from the likes of Andy Rhodes John Inglis Willie mclaren not to mention a certain bald director and still carry on week in week out

  9. Entirely agree with last post Stuart Duff spent 20+years of his life living and breathing St Johnstone At various times he was hated by managers, players and fans sometimes all at the same time but he always had the best interests of Saints at heart and never took a penny out of the club above and beyond his salary.

I think that it's a real pity that the supporters didn't organise a dinner for him.Still not too late

    ' .

  10. Think you are being slightly unfair.Dougie's interpersonal skills were a bit rusty but he has given tremendous unpaid service over 26yrs as a director .He was the man responsible for starting the Saints Lottery which has brought a lot of money into the club over the years.

  11. I'm not sure if I'm being whooshed here or not but I'll assume your serious.

It's perfectly normal, given the number of football players in the world, for Derek to ask his own players, about the contractual situation of their acquaintances and friends. It's common in all good managers.

I was asked to list some names for my own boss today. It's not rocket science that Del can't possibly know about every decent player in the UK, speaking with relaible people will broaden his knowledge. His own players are guys that he can trust and it is normal that he will ask his own players about the availability of others.

Sorry 101 but when it comes to detailed knowledge of the relationships within a football club you sir are a complete virgin. Del would no more discuss potential signings with the current squad than any member of the Chelsea squad would discuss their marital problems with JT.

  12. I think there needs to be a bit of reality about this discussion. Unlike previous years when we've been promoted we haven't spent a lot of money on strengthening the squad and if you think back to twelve months ago would any of us at that time expected the team to be capable of leading the fourth placed team in the premier league 2-0 and then come back again and get a draw.

I think Del has done brilliantly with the resources available to him and whilst we all know most of the players have got some flaws in their make up- why else would they be at Saints- what nobody can take issue with is their fighting spirit and that comes from the morale within the dressing room which is a direct reflection of the manager and his assistant's motivational abilities which I think are second to none.

  13. agree with many of the points previously made but would also like to add that a major factor in Totten's downfall was the decision by GB to get rid of Bert Paton as assistant manager a few months before Totten himself went.

Totten and Paton were a great team Alex in the roles previously mentioned but Bert was the guy who was the dressing room motivator who knew the Gary Thomsons and Ian Heddles and Kenny Thomsons from Dunfermline days.

The two had been brought from dumbarton as a package by GB and worked brilliantly together.

Bert never understood a] why he was sacked and b] why Alex didn't put up more of a fight to keep him.

  14. the team needs a centre back a left back still and possibly a goalkeeper. but we won't get them tonight and then it will be back to loan players till january who if they're any good will be snapped up by other teams with more ambition and if they're crap and can't tackle we'll keep them eg Irvine and Craig

  15. I think that for over twenty years we've trusted Geoff to keep the club financially sound and indeed in existence. The man has a genius for spotting deals which is why he's worth what he is and with the exception of Cosgrove and Muzz none of the rest of us are millionaires!

So why don't we leave him to progress his proposals at the end of the day nothing may happen

  16. I have to say that all of you ranting about capacity attendances with all four stands full are living in a bygone age.In our latter years in the Premier league we couldn't even fill the grounds for Of matches and remember they are now charging a levy for selling tickets to their fans for away games.thus reducing any profit we would get.

Sad to say but McDiarmid is a big empty barn with zero atmosphere for themajority of matches.and I would agree with Bruno that if the ultimate goal is building a smaller stadium elsewhere then that would make sound financial sense.

Geoff has admitted that he has got it wrong in the past re the size of Mcdiarmid and don't forget that stadium maintenance is a significant drain on the clubs finances so we have to generate income from somewhere and this sounds like it would.

Or maybe you would prefer a part time team in a 10'000 seat stadium which may be the other option GB has referred to this before.
