  1. For some of our older members, who remember the dark days: I’m writing a novel based loosely on the 1984/85 season, following a group of fictional Saints supporters as that horrendous season unfolded and we were relegated to the bottom tier of Scottish football. Not a cheery subject, you may imagine, but I’m intending it to be a humorous account. Think Fever Pitch or Brassed Off but with the Enclosure Choir kicking up a stoor and Jimmy Wallace and liftovers and skinny lads with big moustaches. It’s the middle book of a proposed trilogy. I’ve just finished the first volume, 120,000 words, set in Crieff in 1964 and 1985. The third will be set in 2014 in Perth and, fleetingly, Glasgow (I’ll leave you to work out why…) So anyway, I’m at the researching stage. I know there’s a few of the old hardcore fans on here who were probably among the 781 fans at Muirton on April 27 1985 to see Kilmarnock thrash us 4-2 or the 620 fans at Shawfield for the final match of the season (a win, but too late to avoid relegation…) I’m aiming to get up to Perth later in the year, probably to tie in with the start of the season so I can take in a match, so it would be good to buy you a drink and do a quick interview about the bad old days. Before that, if I drew up a questionnaire, it would be great if some of you could fill it in for me. The aim is not that you will appear as characters in the book – believe me, you wouldn’t want that. Most of the characters in the first book came to a sticky end one way or another. Rather, I want some of the stories and adventures and feelings that you went through during that period to add colour. I’m not very interested in the hooligan aspect, to be honest, but I don’t mind the odd rammy. If you’re interested, let me know either on here or in PM. cheers
