  1. Cheers guys. Ihave to say it is hard watching him week after week to understand how Huddersfield could release him - our manager clearly saw something there and knew how to bring out the best in him. I agree it's all to our gain but he comes across as a genuinely nice fella and one that probably would wear his countries shirt with pride (so few seem to, certainly for England anyway) - just guess it would be nice to see his hard work recognised.
  2. Good day all - Burnley fan in peace here. I just wanted to ask a question/garner your opinion on something. I've been informed that Kevin MacDonald has been called up to the national side. Now I've no axe to grind with the lad - though he seemed to struggle to apply himself whilst he was at Burnley he always appeared to have the talent but having watched Scott Arfield last season become a key player for us, without question a top performer week after week and then to see him play in the EPL and not appear even slightly out of his depth (admittedly after only 2 games, but one of those was against some of the worlds best midfielders!) I wondered if there was any underlying reason for this, manager issues etc? No offence to anybody but if KM warrants a call up surely Arfield has earned one? I don't know how much you've seen of him, I'll admit I had no idea who he as when we signed him - to say I was underwhelmed at the time would be something of an understatement - but he has been top drawer for us. Works hard, plays wherever he's asked, tracks back to help the full back, scores goals (some belters) and at this stage he seems to just get better each week. Do any of you think he merits a call up?
  3. i guys - not been on for a while. In brief the main issue with Coyle is his continual mantra of loyalty - this man said just a few months ago 'what kind of man would I be if I get these players to come here and then left at the first opportunity?' In terms of the basic idea of another club coming in - no issue, including him chosing to go. The fact that a few things happened via unofficial channels - no problems, happens all the time BUT there are a few thing rumoured here that are pretty underhand. Oh and for the record, the story goes that we came for Coyle because 'somebody' (I won't say who, not coyle) emailed Burnley to say he would be interested. I have heard your manager mentioned along with Hughes from hibs and Lambert. Not sure how true any of those names are - a fair amount is backing Lambert. An outside tip is Ian Holloway believe it or not. I just hope that IF we go for another clubs manager we at least do it with some decency. If we do go for your manager and are succesful I can only apologise to you once again. Overall I have no complaints about Coyle - worked wonders for us, turned it all around. As a side note I heard today (could be bull but the person who told me seemed fairly certain) that we are actually trying to get Sandy Stewart to take it on. Seems far fetched but stranger things have been tried.
  4. Hi Guys, sorry had chance to get on before today. I couldn't make the game, a situation complicated by some sad family news on Friday. The reports I have seen would suggest the scoreline flattered ....... us. Not been a great Pre season and looks like what would always have been a torrid opening set of fixtures are going to be even more so with a team that does not seem to have really performed in any area at all - only player so far to perform with credit seems to be our keeper and the young south american winger. Still last season didn't start great so lets pray ..... Anyway, well done and (again purely based upon conversations with people there) our ineptitude should not distract from waht was an excellent performance by your team. Good luck in the SPL - though it sounds like we will need the luck far more than you will In Owen We Trust (for now )
  5. You not seen Phoenix nights? You don't mix the Red and the White Rose - it's like adding a drop of water to acid..... off topic like but a friend of mine was in the prison service and they were given training on regional dialects etc as they could get inmates from all over the country. One less than serious test they were given involved a list of phrases and they'd to work out what was actually being said - for Yorkshire it was: Tint Tint Tin
  6. Load of crap - it was a 1p coin - it would have been fine but a bloody tyke got involved and all hell broke loose
  7. Good question. It was on the cards for this year/next but then the credit crunch hit. Now we have the Prem money maybe it will happen in the next couple of years but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  8. All seater, those terraces were replaced by 2 new stands about 13 years ago now. Shame, atmosphere has never been close since the got rid of the terraces.
  9. I know - I was just yanking your chain.
  10. And him a teetotaller as well !!!!!!!!!! I may just do that - do you think she'll stand me a drink or are the stories about Scotsman who drop 50p's bending down so quick they land on their necks true?
  11. No problem Now I think it starts: Oh Flower Of Scotland but I don't know what comes next - anybody want to provide the lyrics so I can get some pre season training in?
  12. One footed is something I have heard quite a bit - then again I also hear his left is as sweet as they come. To be fair we have neither the money nor appeal to try and sign the bigger, established names so we have to rely on Coyle and his scouts to identify targets. He's at least earned the right to our faith - even if some (me included) were rather worried at the start of last season.
  13. Well you will know the Scottish players far better than I do but what limited exposure we got to McDonald last season suggested he was a very good midfielder and the young lad at Hamilton, though not signed, sounds a real prospect. I've read mixed reviews on Fletcher so at 3 million that one worries me a little.
  14. The Jason Scotland thing looks unlikely now with the capture of Fletcher - though I do think Coyle may bring in another striker so you never know. Should be a decent squad by the time we make it to your gaff. Some of us are now getting worried that before long us fans will be required to wear Kilts and sing 'Flower Of Scotland' before each game. The way Coyle is going we will have half the Scotland squad by the end of the season Oh, and for good measure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - anything to reduce the exclamation mark population.
  15. Cheers guys - now looking iffy for me to make it, wrong weekend for me, thought I was off but looks like I got my dates mixed up. Will see if I can arrange a swap - thanks for all the tips though, hopefully I'll get to use one of them.
  16. Sorry if this has been posted, if so I could not see it. According to Burnley we are to play you on Saturday August 8th as part of our/your pre season preparation. Should be a good run out for both teams. I may well make a trip up for this, any recommendations on cheap but clean/decent hotels/guest houses etc?
  17. I beleive Burnley is the smallest town to ever have a team in the Premier League - I think that is the stat being refered to.
  18. Hi Guys, Long time no speak. Glad to hear you do get some additional bunce - Coyle has proved to be the best signing at Burnley in over 30 years. It may be scant consolation but your club clearly has an eye for a manager and an ability to nurture their talent. Coyle is already a legend in Burnley. I hope he stays, of course Celtic is a strong lure but he has started a job, he's at least a year ahead of schedule and based on his past comments I reckon he will fancy finishing the job off. I think he will do one more season with us - maybe 2. Lets hope we both have good seasons in our respective Premier Leagues. In many ways we will be viewed te same. Small clubs, underdogs and expected to be largely cannon fodder. Lets hope we can upset a few of these 'bigger' clubs.
  19. I'm amazed anybody at Burnley has had the cheek to complain about the stewarding - ours is terrible - and guess who provides it? Yep good old Bebop and Rocksteady.
  20. He can play to some effect wide right - Coyle has used him there in a 4 3 3 Still young and I'm no expert on him though but those that follow the youth team closely have been raving about him, especially up front.
  21. Dave is a legend - an amazing record of watching the Clarets. Good to read some views on the game. I wasn't there so its always good to get the opposition view - though the difference is marked with some thinking we were slick whilst others thought we were 'average' or poor. Glad everybody had a good time and the game sounded to be very entertaining. Whoever was asking about Alex Macdonald - been playing very well for us this pre-season. Him and our other youngster Jay Rodriguez seem to be maturing nicely. It has been suggested there is a good chance they will both be in Scotland next season but I've no idea who with - or if its true.
  22. Hi again fellas. Sorry not been back for a while but last few times I tried, the site was unavailable. I can't make the game because of work. I'd imagine you'll see between 250 and 400 for the game. Reports suggested that a number of 'boys' were at partick etc but no troubles - though I'd heard there had been some with some Celtic fans on the evening before. As for the team, well who knows. Coyle has been giving everybody a run out and looking at different players and formations. The comments I've read do suggest the teams we have played feel we would 'walk' the division but I don't know about that. Coyle has spent some serious money for a club like Burnley but whether they will all gel is another question. Hope its a good game though and serves its purpose for both teams (aid fitness, try new things etc etc) - and of course that we win well
  23. Based on the clips on youtube finners no doubt about it - we are just to cheap to pay the going rate (whilst demanding over the odds for our own young talent of course)
  24. Personally I've found Kiraly to be a liability for us - both keepers have made mistakes with Jensen being the lesser of 2 evils. Odd really when you consider the Kiraly has played at a high level That said the defence have been woeful at times with Caldwell (sorry, I know he's Scottish ) being frankly shite. Odd really because he was excellent when he joined last season. Similarly Alexander looks past it now at this level (honest, this is not an anti Scots thing) I think the defence needs some tinkering and a bit of pace adding. I don't know much about Matt Glennon but I don't think he rates the 2 keepers he has much so I'm sure he's looking around. Funnily enough we may also have left back issues. Harley who has had a solid enough season for us is out of contract with no news on a new one and the lad we signed last summer (Jordan) from Man City has not covered himself in glory. We also need a left winger, a new striker (some still think we will be back to Celtic for Riordan), a commanding central midfielder and a right back - oh and some money to pay for them all
