As has already been explained, the committee spent a lot of time and effort working on the match and considering opposition. It would have cost several thousands of pounds to get an English team to travel up. This was the most suitable free weekend and Championship clubs were still involved in Challenge Cup, so that ruled them all out at the time of organising. The number of opposition fans is neither here nor there. Dundee and Neil McCann were willing to play and allow a number of 'legends' to turnout and should be thanked for their participation. Rather than being critical of the people who weren't there, I'd like to thank everyone that was and who made it a memorable night for Dave regardless of the crowd.

On behalf of the Testimonial Committee, a massive thank you to each and every one of you who did attend the match last night , and for those who bought a programme or raffle tickets. The crowd may not have been massive, but I know that Dave Mackay and his family really enjoyed the night. The second half of the game in particular was great fun, and now that the dream of a team of Dave Mackays has been realised, I'm now dreaming of a Saints team that once again has players of the class of Jody Morris and Paul Sheerin playing every week. These guys were a class act , and together with Gary Harkins, were, in my opinion, the best players on the park, by a country mile!

For those going to the game remember the Centenary Lounge is open from 5pm , as a supporter's bar. Be patient tho as the bar serving area is much smaller than the Muirton Suite. While waiting to be served you can buy a strip of raffle tickets, with some great prizes , so dig deep! HONOURING A CLUB LEGEND Testimonial committee chairman Scott Findlay is urging Saints fans to turn out in force to honour their Scottish Cup winning captain in tonight’s match with Dundee. Scott said: “This is the supporters’ chance to say a proper farewell to Dave, whose playing career was cut short after hip surgery last year. It promises to be a special night for fans and for a true club legend. “In his years with Saints, even before Dave lifted the Scottish Cup three years ago, he was a player fans knew gave them 100% every time he pulled on the jersey and he has to be among the club’s most consistent performers of all-time. “From the committee’s very first meeting we wanted to turn the dream of a team of Dave Mackays into reality for one night. That is why we have commissioned a special shirt from Total Teamwear Scotland featuring the logos of match sponsors Booker Perth and Kilmac. “All the Saints players will pull on shirts with Mackay number 2 on their backs in tribute to Dave. “His career began at Dundee FC and we are grateful for their support. With many of their own legends, along with Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, agreeing to make an appearance, we are looking forward to Dark Blues fans joining us at McDiarmid.” While the first hour or so will feature the regular St Johnstone and Dundee first team squads, the closing stages will see legends from both clubs turning back the clock. Names signed up include Roddy Grant, Danny Griffin, John O’Neil, Darren Dods, Martin Hardie, Paul Sheerin, Nathan Lowndes, Jody Morris and cup winner Frazer Wright, along with Rab Douglas, Barry Smith, Steven Milne, Charlie Adam, Peter MacDonald, Gary Harkins and Dens management duo Neil McCann and Graham Gartland. The game kicks-off at 7.30pm and admission at the gate has been pegged at £15 and £5 for U16s and seniors. Season tickets are not valid. The East and West stands will be open, with Dundee fans accommodated in the north of the main stand (turnstiles 6 and 7). *Supporters should note the Muirton Suite is hosting a pre-booked function but the Centenary Suite is open pre-match only from 5pm, with an opportunity to mingle with legends. The star prize in the raffle is a limited edition signed Dave Mackay testimonial shirt. The pre-match and half-time entertainment will be provided by the Pipes and Drums of Glenalmond College.

Foster receives two match ban. Can't say I have sympathy for him but punishment smacks of double standards, when you kick a door after match finished and get banned but when you play for an old firm team you can aim an elbow at the face of an opponent in the middle of a match and totally escape any form of punishment!

Saints fans will finally get to cheer on a team of Dave Mackays in Friday's testimonial match with Dundee at McDiarmid Park, kick-off 7.30pm. The special shirts, provided by Total Teamwear Scotland, were unveiled in advance of the game. Dave Mackay and testimonial committee chairman Scott Findlay are flanked by Athole McDonald of Kilmac and Colin McFarlane of Booker Perth, Friday's match sponsors, along with Findlays Events. Saints current stars and guests will all wear Mackay 2 shirts in tribute to the cup winning skipper.

Watch this space. It is hoped that there will be an opportunity for fans to bid for some of the unique shirts after the match. Details will be posted here.

Further Match Information :- Please note that Reserved Car Park Bays are NOT valid for this game, and car park fee is £3 per car. Any supporter who would normally use a disability parking space, should phone the Club to book a parking space for the match. As previously stated, the Muirton Suite will NOT be open due to a pre arranged private function, however St Johnstone have kindly agreed to open the Centenary Lounge prior to the game (from 5pm) as a supporter's bar. At the conclusion of the game Dave Mackay will say a few words of thanks to those attending, so don't rush away. Souvenir Programmes will be on sale for £3 Raffle tickets with some great prizes, will be on sale prior to the game, in the Centenary Lounge an Hospitality Lounges. Excerpt from Tommy Wright's message today :- The word ‘legend’ is used a bit too freely these days but it is a fitting word to describe what Dave Mackay is to this football club and I am delighted that we have been able to fit in a testimonial match for him on Friday. It promises to be a great night with the first hour or so being a really useful exercise for both first teams and then a range of guest players taking part to make it a memorable occasion and I hope as many Saints fans as possible can come along and give Dave the support he deserves.

A Dream Come True for Saints FansThroughout their history, if you asked any St Johnstone fan, of any age, what were their dreams for the Club, they'd have told you they wanted to win a National Trophy. That happened on 17th May 2014, when Dave Mackay became the first ever St Johnstone captain to hold the Scottish Cup aloft. Saints fans, in the main, are realists, and have never expected a team of multi million pound players or to win League Championship Trophies. Over the last few years however, St Johnstone fans have had one particular recurring dream or wish, which they have verbalised in song:- “A Team of Dave Mackay’s”, a player, who you knew that every time he pulled on that blue shirt, he would give absolutely everything for the team. JODY PLANS RETURN TRIP FOR CUPTIE’S GAME JODY MORRIS was a firm fans’ favourite during his five years with St Johnstone. And he is relishing the prospect of pulling on the boots again for Friday’s Dave Mackay Testimonial Match with Dundee at McDiarmid Park. Guest appearances by legends including Chelsea youth coach Morris and Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, wearing a Dark Blue jersey, are sure to boost the turn-out as supporters pay tribute to Saints’ popular 2014 Scottish Cup winning captain. Mackay’s career began at Dundee and the Dens Park club could not have been more supportive of the testimonial committee, with management duo Neil McCann and Graham Gartland keen to play during the second half. Morris is making the trip north from London to grace the McDiarmid stage once again. He explained: “Cuptie got in touch asking if I’d like to play in his game if we didn’t have a match down here. I checked the planner and we had a rare weekend off. It’s worked out great and I’m looking forward to coming back to Perth. “After Chelsea, St Johnstone are definitely next in terms of how I feel about a club. It will always be like that. “They are the next result I look for and I’m always rooting for them. “I spent the longest time there apart from Chelsea. “The time with Saints was important to me. I had a great relationship with the supporters and I fell back in love with football in my time with the club. “I will never forget my debut at Dundee. I scored and it was probably the only header of my whole career. “But I don’t even remember it. I had been pretty much knocked unconscious just before scoring. “I have watched it back on the telly otherwise I’d know nothing about it. Earlier this week a Dundee fan emailed the Testimonial Committee email address stating he could not attend the Testimonial Match due to being on holiday, but pledged £25 to the Testimonial Fund, which he then promptly transferred to the bank account. A fantastic gesture!!!

LEGENDS LINING-UP FOR DAVE'S BIG NIGHT FORMER colleagues and other ex-Saints players have signed-up for the testimonial match on October 6 supported by Booker and Kilmac. While managers Tommy Wright and Neil McCann will be taking the derby clash seriously for more than an hour, they have agreed to let St Johnstone and Dundee legends turn back the clock in the closing stages. Joining Cuptie for a trip down memory lane will be former skipper Jody Morris (now the successful U18 coach with Chelsea), Danny Griffin, Scottish Cup winner Frazer Wright, Darren Dods, John O’Neil, Martin Hardie, Allan Preston, Nathan Lowndes and Perth fans’ player of the decade Paul Sheerin. Dens management duo Neil McCann and Graham Gartland will stepping out of the technical area and joining former players including keeper Rab Douglas, Barry Smith and Gary Harkins, with one-time Saints and Dundee strikers Steven Milne and Peter MacDonald enjoying credentials to play for both teams. Testimonial committee chairman Scott Findlay said: “We are grateful to managers Tommy Wright and Neil McCann for their help and co-operation with staging the match for Cuptie. “They have agreed to allow the legends to play in the closing stages and there has been a fantastic response from ex-players, with Jody taking advantage of a free weekend with Chelsea to travel from London to honour the man who took over the captain’s armband when he left the club.” Admission to the game, will be £15 and £5 concessions (U16s and seniors).
