  1. Glory seeking 'fans' coming out of the woodwork?
  2. Agree Sam, Gus Poyet said almost the same when he could not find a place for him regularly in Brighton's promotion year and let him go.
  3. Stevenage are a good side and I would expect to see them challenging for promotion to the Championship this season. Not sure how many SPL sides would cut it in the upper half of League One. Good luck to the boy.

Right then, as I said, I spent 18 hours in A&E, Clinical Decisions Unit (dumping ground) aand The Medical Assessment Unit. A&E was pretty quiet for a sunday night and my chest pain had dissipated so I envisaged a pretty lengthy wait before seeing anyone. My nurse came to do an initial assessment, take some history, take some blood and have an ECG and said someone would be along in a second or two to take me for a Chest X-ray. All this well before the end of the football and I had been there only a couple of hours. A doctor popped his head round and said hello I will be back in a minute to see you and he was. I told him, after he examined me thoroughly (my faith in the NHS was being restored) that I was fine now and had no pain but he said I should stay for more tests and follow the Protocol for Chest Pain so I stayed and was wheeled to the Clinical Decisions Unit awaiting more tests and whether I was to stay in or go home. There I waited and waited and waited until around 1am when I thought that perhaps I had been forgotten about so I went up to the Nursing station and made some enquiries. Turns out that the Doctor who admitted me had gone off shift and had handed me over to another one who in turn had gone off shift and left my notes somewhere in the department. I had seen other patients come and go and they get offered foot and drinks but not me and the patients who were also awaiting Clinical Decisions! At 2am I was starting to get a bit hungry so I again went up to the Nurses and asked if it would be possible to have some food and drink as I was just about to have dinner before being transported to Hospital Now you might think that there might not be much left at that time in the morning and perhaps I would get some soggy toast that I would have to make myself but how wrong was I. Roast Chicken Salad, multiple choices of sandwiches or they might even order a late night Kebab - Free of charge! The kebab might not have been such a great idea as the reason I was there was, as I said, was my Chest Pain. I opted for a sandwich and 3 members of the Nursing brought me one each within a 20 minute spell. Coffee also flowed freely possible because Clinical Decisions had been made for everyone except moi! At 3.30 another doctor, pretty young one at that, came and asked me if my bloods had been done at 1pm and of course I related the events as they occurred (or not). She apologised, took some bloods and said that she would be back in 45 minutes to see me with the results. SHE CAME BACK AS SHE PROMISED DEAD ON 45 MINUTES. My bloods were raised and she said that I would have to be admitted. Within seconds I was wheeled to the Medical Assessment Unit and clerked in at around 4 in the morning. I waited there, amongst the elderly and poorly, and waited and waited and waited. They started to wake those elderly and poorly patients up at 6.30. I thought that they must be doing obs and getting ready for breakfast etc. No one came to see me but at 9pm we all got breakfast and I chose Porridge and Toast of which there was plentiful supply. The staff even gave me a brand new toothbrush (I has not expected to require one), shower gel, shaving utensils (not disposable) etc and I thought to myself that I might be able to take these home as no one else would want them. Wrong again. Toothbrush (not a cheap one) 50mls of toothpaste etc were promptly thrown in the bin. I was astounded at this waste. Anyway it was now about 10am and I was pretty knackered by this time as I had not slept. Along came a nurse who said that my consultant would be along in a minute but, yep you guessed it, he wasn't so I waited and waited and then it was lunchtime. Asparagus (!) Soup which was delicious and a large choice of Salads and Sarnies. What more could a man ask for in his hours of need! During my lunch my consultant introduced himself, ate one of my sarnies and said that I had not had a heart attack, told me not to smoke or drink sparkling wine and left!!! Two minutes later a nurse came and told me that the Consultant was on his way to see me. I doubted this but anything was possible. Sure enough another one came to see me and told me that he as not sure what had happened to me so he wanted to run more tests as an outpatient! Then a pharmacist came and told me that he was going to bring me a prescription and when I asked how long would that take he said about 20 minutes. I waited and waited and waited until I decided to leave and said I would get a prescription from my GP but my Nurse said to wait and she would fetch it from the Dispensary herself. So I waited and she left the ward to get my prescription and she came back 20 minutes later without the prescription. She had forgotten to take her ID with her. In the meantime the Pharmacist came on the ward and told me that he had forgotten my prescription so I thanked him and said that one of the Nurses had gone to get it. He said that it was closed for lunch!!! Seconds later my nurse came to my rescue and delivered my medication. She had got there in time! I left and went to get a taxi. At the front of the hospital I found a taxi and asked him if he was free. He said he was but I would have to join the queue. I turned round and there was no queue! He also told me that I would have to ring from Reception to order a taxi so I duly went back into the hospital and ordered a taxi, to be told that it was on its way. I went out to where I was before and the original taxi driver wound his window down and asked me if I was Duncan. I assured him I was and got in. We had a nice chat on the journey home! This is not the panto season or 1st April so what exactly did I do deserve this? It is enough to give you an MI!
