  1. Can anyone think of a manager who would want to join Saints at the current time who we could confidently say would make a better job than Coyle. I can remember us sacking Rennie, Totten & Stark all of whom probably deserved to go but the big problem was that they were replaced by Gibson, McClelland & Connolly who all proved to useless. I personally cannt think of a credible candidate who would do a better job than Coyle.

    Odd One Out

David Bingham (Saints in 89/90, Gr£tna in 06/07) Derek McInnes (Morton 89/90, Saints 06/07) Does that make 5 ?

    Odd One Out

Right reason, wrong player. Don McVicar never played against Saints at Muirton. Roddy played for Cowdenbeath at Muirton and for Partick at McD. Sorbie came on as a sub for Saints in the 1st match at McD and played for Alloa at both grounds. MacDonald played for Forfar & Airdrie at Muirton and for Raith at McD. The only 3 other players who I believe might have played both for and against Saints at both grounds are Paul Cherry, Ian Heddle and Steve Maskrey.

I'm off to my scratcher now with the mystery of Group 3 still to be solved.

    Odd One Out

The link is connected to playing for and against Saints but not in the same season.

    Odd One Out

Nobody is even close to getting the right answer for Group 3. All I can say is that 3 of the group are members of a very select club of ex-Saints of which there are no more than 3 other members.

    Odd One Out

Who can identify the odd one out, and the reason why, from the following 3 groups of Saints players. Group 1 Vinny Arkins Danny Griffin Sammy Johnston George O'Boyle The answer is not "Johnston - because all of the rest are Irish" Group 2 John Lambie Grant Jenkins Gary Maher Ian Redford The answer is not "Lambie - because all of the rest were from Perthshire" Group 3 Roddy Grant Kenny MacDonald Don McVicar Stuart Sorbie The answer is not "Sorbie - because all of the rest signed for Saints twice" Good luck !!
  10. [quote=The ghost of Jim Morton;103629 F....Before Saints , was he at Wimbledon???
  11. M...He was into cartoons, well 50 % of them anyway David Hannah
  12. IIRC the golfer/defender did indeed wear the Number 4 jersey.
  13. Correct ! Only the golfer/defender remains.
  14. Just 2 to go Goalkeeper ~ Mike McDonald (Micheal MacDonald) Defence ~ Gordon Smith ~ Very obscure professional golfer born in Memphis, shares name with defender whom everyone over 30 will remember, surname is the same as wellknown English TV actor who recently appeared in Coronation Street ~ Alan McManus ~ Don McVicar Midfield ~ Isobel's second husband in "Take The High Road", career cut short by injury, another namesake plays for team in bottom half of SPL ~ Sammy Johnston (Samuel Johnson) ~ Iain Lee Forwards ~ Andy (Andrew) Jackson ~ John Connolly (Connelly) ~ John Irvine
  15. I am impressed by your knowledge of High Road which could yet inspire a quiz on Saints/Glendarroch connections. Isobel' s first husband was indeed Brian Blair (no relation to Ray) but there is no Saints player of this name. Her second husband had a namesake who suffered a career ending injury in his early 20's.
  16. Not Billy Taylor. The keeper/singer could be the male sibling of an ex-Saints player who scored on Saturday.
  17. All answer's correct so far with the exception of "Ray Blair". Some extra clues. Goalkeeper/1970's singer/keyboard player - was in 2 well known American bands and is now a solo artist Defender/Professional golfer born in Memphis - no-one will have heard of the golfer but every Saintee over 30 will know the footballer Defender/ Snooker player - well known snooker pro who has never wotn the world championship Midfielder/ Isobel's husband in "Take The High Road" - Isobel married a Welshman and the Saints player only made a handful of first team appearances Midfielder/ 18th century man of letters - The man of letters' surname has 1 more letter than his Saints very-near-namesake Midfielder/Presenter on Channel 4 - Another fairly obscure player, co-presented with Daisy Donovan
  18. Inspired by Soulfoul Saints Fun Parades can you identify this Saints XI from clues on their namesakes e.g. Allegedly shot by Lee Harvey Oswald would be John Kennedy. Goalkeeper ~ 1970's singer/keyboard player Defence ~ Ex Killie and Rangers striker ~ Professional golfer born in Memphis ~ Snooker player ~ 1980's referee Midfield ~ Isobel's husband in "Take The High Road" ~ 18th century man of letters ~ Presenter on Channel 4 Forwards ~ Former US president ~ Member of England's 1966 World Cup squad ~ ITN's Washington correspondent
  19. Seeing Jason on the scoresheet again yesterday got me thinking where we would have finished in the league without him in the past 2 seasons. Admittedly his committment was sometimes less than 100% but there is no doubt he was (at least) a class above any other First Division striker. I reckon without Jason we would have finished around 4th each season.
  20. Biggest mistake has to be failing to capitalise on our position in late 1990 - 4th in the Premier League, regular home support of 5 - 6,000 and the only club in Scotland with a stadium compliant with the Taylor Report. Unfortunately around this time Totten lost the plot and squandered fortunes on duff players and neglected the youth policy. In Totten's last 2 years he gave free transfers to Sammy Johnston, Roddy Grant, David Bingham, Allan Smart, Don McVicar & Bobby Mann and signed the likes of John Davies, Kenny MacDonald, Paul Sweeney, Raymond Stewart, Ian Redford & Gunni Torfason. By the time Totten was sacked the feelgood factor between fans and club built up between 1987 and 1990 was well and truly lost and so had the team spirit on the park as the players who had brought us up the leagues were replaced by prima donnas whose ego's outstripped their ability - Andy Rhodes being the prime example.
  21. First time I saw him was playing left wing in a reserve match at McD; he tore us apart and I think he scored 2 in a 3-1 win. Could be wrong, but it was a few years back.
  22. When did Gordon Brown play for Saints ?
  23. The Jags will not be contenders in Div 1 next season. They were relying on selling some land next to the stadium but this has fallen through so they are in desperate financial trouble. They have office space to let within Firhill and they are not offering leases longer than 1 year so they are obviously thinking about selling up. Their current squad is poor and they will have no money for improvements so a battle against relegation looms.
  24. We need to get the average age down so I reckon McInnes, Lilley, McManus & Lawrie should go to make way for youngsters plus 2 or 3 quality signings in the 23 to 26 age bracket.
