  1. there's no pleasing some people, we've never been this glamorous, world class playing team that a few of our fans seem to expect from us. We've 2 games in hand on Hamilton an there in freefall top 6 is pretty much guaranteed, and we're still in the hunt for Europe, what more do you want? It's Scottish football it's a physical league an some times pretty shite, it's no different from any other season.

The problem is that if we played the way we did recently against Aberdeen, Celtic and Utd we would probably already be safely headed for the top 6 or even 4. Instead we have had games like V Hamilton ICT and QOS in the cup. I think that is why some are peed off. We know they have the ability to do better.

  2. The performances V Celtic and Aberdeen [home] despite only getting one point show the level we should be playing at and if we played like that every week we would not be struggling to make the top 6.

Only makes the no shows at Pittodrie, ICT and QOS all the more annoying though.

  3. naw, no way.  unless your going back to the 50's/60's, def not in the 70's.

I think that you could still do that in the early seventies if I remember correctly. My first match at Muirton was late sixties but didn't, wonder around by myself until early seventies and I can remember going in one end and out the other.

  4. Us oldies would probably agree that midfielder Ian McPhee, in the mould of Jim Baxter, was totally enigmatic. He bewildered the crowd and himself with his ability one week and the next he could not kick a football!

    This. Agree also Duncan Lambie.

Later Andy B was enigmatic but mostly looked clueless Alloa aside.

Zorro too was enigmatic though mostly he was brill.

Reading this thread I am amazed how many Saintees were in the Derry in that 5-3 game at Dens in 1977. I was there too and would have shouted out a lot more when Saints scored if I had known were so many Saintees nearby. If I remember rightly their goalie got injured towards the end and Saints were shooting from anywhere. They broke away to make it 4-3 and from the kick off Saints lined everyone up front, the ball broke to them and they ran up field and made it 5-3.Still an exciting game though not as good as the 4-3 for Saints the same season also at Dens.

  5. Struggling a bit so far tonight even against 10 men. Utd are best suited to playing on the break I think. The problem for Saints is if we let them come forward we don't have the pace to break quickly against them and get support up to whoever plays up front.

  6. Is O'Halloran fit after getting injured in the testimonial?

Is Millar fit after getting subbed off in the home leg?

I think O'Halloran and Wotherspoon caused more problems than Croft in the home leg so would start him in the bench.

Think we need to start with 2 up top and go for it with the wide men running at their full backs.

                          Mannus

    McKay   Scobbie    Wright    Easton

    O'Halloran   Millar   Brown   Wotherspoon

                      May     MacLean

Like this but if Ando is fit would consider him at the back because of his set set piece goals in the second half of last season especially in cup ties.

  7. C'mon, spill the beans. Who was it ??? I guess Hodgie (John).

Did he not jump out and moon at the Ayr fans or was that another game?

I was there but not on pitch so no turf. Got the program and commerative stuff. It was given at game if I remember correctly.

Also there were a lot fewer Ayr fans there than the press reported.

  8. I think the club with some hard work could attract 500 new ST holders and probably the same again paying in.

There needs to be more flexible ticketing. As has been mentioned, a shift workers ticket would be great.

If I was running the club I'd be selling 5, 10 and 15 game flexi-tickets. With a scaled discount that is less than the ST discount.

This. Even the two match deals like last Christmas are an incentive for people to get off their backsides and go as they will have paid for both games. I know that I can for example be put off by feeling under the weather or by bad weather but if I have a ticket will make the effort.

  9. Watched the whole 90mins this evening. Great. Not a failure in blue.

Couldn't believe last night that someone told me we were lucky to get the second as Mclean shouldn't have still been on as he had done nothing. Gave particular attention to his performance and as usual it was excellent.

  10. was just told this afternoon that a young lad called Mattie Smith released by Saints last year has been signed up on  full time contract by Dundee utd, hope he doesn't come back to haunt us in the future.

I was surprised that he was let go. Looked like a good prospect up front and had been there a while.

Hope his new team get gubbed next week though.

  11. Can see a couple of Celtic subs coming on early second half if no change in the score. Would be great to hold on and stop the 100 points.

Great if we can then follow up v ICT and go into the final on equal points with Utd.  Even better if Uniteds defence play like they did last night.

  12. I'm going with one ST holder, two other Saints, two part time {Cup semis , Europe etc] Saints supporters,  a Jambo whose dad was a Saints supporter, a Dundee sympathiser and a neutral [ex Utd supporter]. We are in the Saints end. My neighbour, a Utd supporter who only goes to Euro ties and cup finals is taking his father who is a Saints supporter, plus his son, a Utd supporter plus two family who go to finals involving either Dundee team [but are really Dundee fans]. They are in the Utd end.

My point is kind of that both teams will have many non committed fans [sT holders] but on the day will enjoy the occasion and really get behind their adopted team on the day. If any become regulars next Season that is a bonus for Saints.

  13. Must be largest away support. I don't think record saints support at a game though - record at muirton was 29972 v dundee, sure I read 20000 were saints fans... Anyone on this site at that one??

Was too young to be at that game but if it was the one when Dundee won the league and relegated us then I believe there were 20k plus Dundee supporters there. What about the European ties? Hamburg? Crowd must have been nearly all Saints.

Edit. Just checked. Crowd was only 11,000 odd for Hamburg game.

Double edit. Dundee crowd when they won league was 26k. 29972 was cup tie in 1951. Doesn't say how many were Saints.
