  1. exactly, without heavy drinkers and chain smokers the NHS would be in an even worse state (not to mention the pension system). Whilst we often hear stories of the vast cost smoking and drinking has on the health service, there are very few stories on the taxes raised from their habits. Obesity on the other hand, now costs even more annually, yet somehow there doesnt seem to be the same appitite (excuse the pun), for the likes of mcdonalds or your local takeaway to be taxed like BAT or Diageio. Whilst everyone has an individual right to choose what they do, surely any business that promotes illhealth should be taxed to cover those effects in the longer term cost to society.
  2. if someone joined saints as a kid, played 25 odd years and became arguably their best player ever, id find it hard to criticise them if they wanted a US payday for a couple of seasons when they were well past their best. Gerrard like Shearer chose heart over head. Whilst their careers may have suffered, they are proper legends at those clubs.
  3. fit and proper owner?, lets not forget (from wiki) King eventually reached an agreement with the South African High Court whereby he pled guilty to 41 criminal counts of contravening the South Africa Income Tax Act and agreed to pay a fine of 80,000 Rand per criminal conviction or 3.28 million Rand in total. As part of the deal to drop the other 281 criminal charges he faced, King also agreed that he would pay the Criminal Assets Recovery Account of the South African Authorities 8.75 million Rand in compensation. King was originally indicted on 322 counts including fraud, tax evasion and evasion of exchange control regulations, as well as money-laundering and racketeering
  4. personal taste i guess, but id take mcsween haggis over howies any day of the week. have a couple of his in the freezer id rather leave there than defrost. Although recently tried the veggie option and it was surprissingly tasty
  5. think you missed my point. You seem to think someone who constantly eats cheesy pasta is "jumped up"?. Jeremy Kyle or FreakyEater fodder is what id think about her. but, If youre going to do the whole festive special dinner, surely it should be something special. rather than some manky old steak pie or a bit of tasteless turkey. Push the boat out and go traditional, rather than some american import. Vension, goose, rabbit even, are far more likely dishes, and ones we are less likely to eat day to day, Theyre also ridiculously and unbelievably cheap. My local butcher does rabbit at 2quid a go. Twice asmuch meat as chicken, lower fat, far more taste
  6. in this case, someone who thinks packet macaroni is a meal, or someone who thinks their girlfriend is "jumped up" because they think packet macaroni is "jumped up". Something as sophisticated as liking steak pie could never be beyond ridicule, hmm wish id been at yours for xmas dindins, bet the lambrini was in full flow
  7. Jumped up girlfriend? Really? Not sure what you think is classy, but anyone who only eats cheesy pasta out of a box sounds like a real pikey to me. Then again, anyone who enjoys turkey, let alone have the audacity to serve it to guests, obviously has no tastebuds. The cardboard holding the kids chrimbo pressies probably has more flavour, and more nutrional content.
  8. is that wee cafe at the end o the bus station still going? back in the 80s always smelled good, always tatsed like....well wht other folk have said
  9. Full on traditional Chinese takeaway. No stress, no dishes, and you actually eat something you like
  10. lets keep the speculation to a minimum until we have some concrete evidence. Two back to back years of horrendous xmas tragedies in one city. RIP
  11. Sounded like fun and games in the Govan Gazebo this morning for the AGM. Some of the quotes from Somers are quite unbelievable, he really is a muppet "In these past 12 months, I have been surprised at a number of things. Firstly, the highly negative aspect of most of the media reporting regarding Rangers. Secondly, because it is clear to me that a stronger Rangers is good for Scottish football, I have been very disappointed to realise that outside of Ibrox, there sadly still exists a great deal of anti-Rangers feeling, perhaps (although I hope not) even in the football establishment." "we've renegotiated contracts, in a number of cases we've said, sod you, we'll see you in court." "The mess isn’t our fault – it’s yours" Even the club crest tried its best to walk away.
  12. Yay,extremely rich people with a vested interest (like a certain Soutar who you claim to disdain) will have an even bigger leverage over an ever small regional parliament. Cant see how that could ever work badly for the man in the street ChampagneSocialism at work !?
  13. I thought the interview with Kyle was quite open and honest. Certain players picking up 5-10K a week for doing nothing for 2-3-4-5 years. Outwith ultracompetitive individuals (whod never have dropped 3 leagues) how could TRFC expect any more from their mercenaries? If i was being paid to play against an U11 team week in week out, id soon get bored of spanking goals in against them.
  14. "Free" school lunches for every kid, along with an education of whats in them, how to cook them, and why you need to eat them. Breakfast clubs seem to be a bit of hit in some areas too. And bring back milk, i remember when it was snatched As an ex-Grammar pupil, like most, lunchtime was spent at the Good Luck on the Dunkeld Road and buying a single and a match from the shop next door. Hardly the healthiest of diets (although i do admit the guilty pleasure of the occassional chips and curry when i make it back to Perth)
  15. id go for 1 teach children the 65ish pension age is a fallacy, it'll be at least 75 by the time they retire. reality is a bitch. 2 education, education, education - its the only thing that can earn you decent money in youre lifetime - FFS we all get it "free" 3 as with our club - cut your cloth. If you cant afford it, dont have it. whether thats ferrarris. houses or kids. 4 never rely on the state, benefits are always the first to be cut by every government
  16. The most common name for a boy in scotland this year according to the bbc was Jack. Heaven help us if we are judging the whole nation on stats solely derived from Weegie. That would surely mean every man , ahem, jack of us, would be a wife beating Buckie drinking bigot. Personally i never drink Buckie.
  17. Maybe i suggest you should pick a newspaper that isnt youre normal read. if you havent realised that there has become an extreme right wing bias, you are either dilluded or just burying your head in the sand or just ignorant of whats going on. And if you think im a leftie socialist, check out most of my other posts on other threads where im shouted down for being a neoThatcherite. Different views are always welcome. Personally i think im somewhere in the middle. Saying that, i will attack any post thats discriminates on something as ridiculous as race/religion/creed/colour. Once again ill ask, answer the questions posted, and you wont get as much stick. Bullshitting "ive answered that" doesnt cut it
  18. "Christened" you?!? once again you show your allegiances inadvertantly. If folk on here have a view on you, its because you show the same intolerance you abhor in others. Answer strightforwardly some of the points put to you, and we can have a grown up argument. Name calling and avoidance is always going get you branded as a (my favourite word apparently) trolll. If youve got something serious to say, say it. If its a Daily Mail diatribe, dont expect not to get shot down.
  19. i really hope your are volunteering to go one on one with ISIL. If you need help with an air ticket to the MiddleEast, im sure the WAP board could help out. You constantly spout racism, yet are happy for other people to fight your battles. If you wish to see the demise of Islam, go fight it, rather than hiding behind a keyboard. Id rather live next door to a liberal muslim than a radical christian (or whatever you are claiming to be (trollism?))
  20. Got to disagree with you HSF The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Lets allow, and then shout down the ignorance of a few bigots/rascists who have no part in an educated, civilised and tolerant society. Whilst they claim the moral high ground, they share the same baseness. Equally theyd like to expunge each other from the face of the planet. Maybe we could set up some kind of hunger games scenario with the nutters from both sides, and kind of hope neither makes it out.
  21. Come on Abernethy, wheres your Christmas spirit? After all without TheRangers, Scottish football is dooooooomed. Dooooomed i tells ya. Armaggedon. Fire and brimstone etc etc....
  22. I really wish youd read your posts before submitting. Firstly you claim the Sydney tradegy was committed in the name of Islam, whether the guy was a Muslim or not, doesnt really prove that statement either way. Then you claim the american guy was obviously mentally messed up, but given the iranians previous criminal record for violence id argue he too must have had some psycological issues (the fact they murdered civilians in cold blood surely means both had serious problems). To get back to your flipant thread title, according to the ONS there are at least twice as many americans as iranians living in this country, statistically we have more to fear from the yanks. If youre sticking to the islam is out to get us theme, if you remember pre 9/11, the biggest threat to the US was from domestic terrorism, McVeigh, the Unabomber et al. It was only when they (and the UK) started their latest chapter in the "Great Game" that some muslims started fighting back.
  23. Bradley William Stone, according to the the US press was a "God fearing" christian. Whether that is or isnt true, its about as accurate as the Oz press description of the guy in Sydney being a Muslim. Only time will tell. Simple fact he killed 6 people, yet you choose to highlight a murder purely becuase of someones supposed faith (if i was a betting man, id guess race) Millions die every day around the world of famine, death and disease, which we in the west could certainly do something about. Yet you seem obsessed with the actions of the odd nutter who commits albeit a despicable act. Unf the world we live in people do kill each other everyday. Are you trying to kick of another crusade or inquisition? (or just trolling as usual)
