  1. Mo Johnston and the team manager have been fired by Toronto F.C. Nick Dasovic will take over for the remaining seven games of the MLS season. I imagine that if he does a good job he will be considered as a canditate for the permanent job. Here's hoping. Smudge

    Burn a Koran Day

The reality is that millions of people subscribe to Islam. The vast majority of them are ordinary, lunchpail Joes. Another reality is that there are, in the U.S. many fundamental Christian sects who spread hate as virulently as the most fundamental Muslim, (viz the KKK). They hate anyone who is not like them. This fella in Florida is looking for face-time on T.V. and the American media is more than happy to provide it. I think he is not long for this world. Smudge
  3. Thanks, John. A compliment from the King of Cool. Smudge
  4. If one boos a national anthem, they not only insult the players on the field (both teams) but they insult all of the people represented by those players (both countries). Having said that, I would be tempted to boo "Flower of Scotland". What a pitiful song when we are represented by something that happened 6,000,000 or so years ago. If that is all we have to celebrate, then we are in bad shape. I'd rather have Anie Lennox in her red leather bra singing almost anything. Smudge
  5. He was always good to me. When I worked the night shift at Scott's, he used to let me take his motorbike home in the morning. No insurance, no license, no kidding. 'Never did me any harm, so I remember him with affection. 'Sorry your experience was different. Smudge

    Boxing

Two things: I dislike Audley Harrison, he a poseur; I really dislike David Haye, he's a loudmouth and he's chicken. Given those, I think that that Haye will be exposed in this fight. The first time he's hit with a straight left, he is down and out and will go back to the Light-heavies where he belongs. If I had to choose some one to go against a Klitscho it would be Harrison. He has the size and the punch. I'd hate to see Haye against either of the brothers. He would get himself badly hurt. Smudge
  7. Reb Muchas, muchas gracias. It took an hour to download the clip, but it was worth it. It brought back some terrific memories, and taught me a couple of things: My daughter, bless her little cotton socks, was wrong; and English guys can't dance. I bought myself one of those shiny suits and thought I was Ultra-cool. A lot of girls did, too, (until, of course, they got to know me). I took the City Hall by storm for at least two weeks. By the time all of the guys had shiny suits, I had reverted to jeans and tee-shirts and was refused entrance to the City Hall, (the pricks!). Big Dave Houllihan, a bouncer, used to laugh when he saw me coming and just pointed up the road. Thanks again, Reb. That was a treat. Viva Che! Smudge
  8. Mike Hank just arrived for his lesson. I'll get back to you. Smudge
  9. My daughter (25) said to me today, "Dad, I saw this video on U-Tube by a band called The Shadows. They were playing a song, 'FBI', and I remember you used to play that tune. There was this really goofy-looking guy playing the guitar." "That would be Hank B. Marvin". "Yeah, that's him. He didn't play it as well as you did, Dad." "Daughter, I couldn't clean Hank Marvin's boots'. "Ah, sure you could, he's not as good as you.". "Well, thanks, Daughter, but he's pretty good". "He's O.K., but you could teach him how to play 'Apache'". As I said, feckin' surreal. Smudge

  14. Saint 101. What a sad prick. That is posibly the most self-indulgent exercise I have ever seen. Go dig the garden and you might discover the meaning of life. d*** Smudge
  15. By sheer coincidence, I've seen this kid three times in the last few days and I am very impressed. He is a wonderful winger, a great left back, and he probably would not be out of place as a striker. Did he just have a good spell or is he the real thing? I'm going to go 'way out a limb here and say he reminds me of Duncan Edwards, he of blessed memory. No apology, though. Smudge
  16. In my day, Holdgates was very good, but my best was Cavellinis (Sp?) just off Hunter Crescent. The fish and chips were excellent and I would have jumped into the fryer for a kiss at Patsy Orange's lips. What a beautiful girl. Hang about....I'd still jump into the fryer. Smudge (Ah, Patsy, ya wee stotter!) S
  17. I know that everyone here is into the 'Blues. However, if you are into the blues, might I recommend that you go to U-Tube, find Tom Rush and listen to "The Panama Limited". Then go to Doug Macleod with "The New Panama Limited". It will shift yer blues. Let me know. Smudge

I've only seen this player on T.V., so I will beg your indulgence. He's CRAP. He can make dizzy 40 yard runs that end up with n result. He can dive. He can whine. Other than that, I can't see much. I'm glad he plays for some team other than Scotland. Smudge
  20. Move to Ontario. If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, it will change. Smudge
  21. Thruppence? Ya cheap b******. In the South Street just off Princess Street. I'll take a cheque. I think the other pub you mentioned was Corner Jock, or Blackfriars Bobby or Lassie Come Home or something like that. Ya cheap b******! Smudge (It was worth at least a tisharoon).
