I think you do him down. He was the first man to beat Ali ( a k.o. at MSG ) in 1971 in front of 300 million tv viewers and although Ali beat him twice his respect for Joe was immense.In the golden age of heavyweight boxing he was part of the Holy Trinity along with Foreman. Courage and bravery were his best weapons and sad to see the "Smoke" go out. RIP champ.

Kilgour, you are right,, I did do him down

It was not intenional. What I had meant to say was that he was an above average fighter in a below average era. On reveiwing my post I note that that's not what I wrote. In my defence, yesterday was my first with this new brain and it's only rented.

I can't agree with you on Joe and Muhammad. That could go to another conversation.
