I would have thought that the club doctor would have to apply patient confidentiality standards but not a physio.

There's no difference. Doctors have to abide by GMC code of conduct, physios by the HCPC code of conduct. They have pretty much the same requirements in terms of confidentiality.

It seems someone else was interested enough to submit a FOI query on their funding,

I don't know enough about the JR process to add anything.

    https://beta.gov.scot/publications/foi-17-01307/

A quick look at Wikipedia would have answered my query earlier...

"There is, however, one substantial difference in Scotland since there is no distinction between review of a public body and a private body, which is different from, for example, judicial review in England and Wales, where review is only possible in the case of a public body or a quasi-public body"

As another poster mentioned, a fan-funded judicial review does seem like the best hope now.

I thought that judicial reviews only applied to public bodies - does this apply to the SFA and/or the SPFL? I would have thought that fundamentally they were simply independent enterprises or charities.

Last yrs payments were euros 215,000 rd 1, 225k rd 2, 235k rd 3 and 245k if eliminated at play off round.

Decent draw and this could be a big earner for saints.Hopefully at least 1 round without having to hire a private plane.

Add takings  from each home game of in excess of 100 k Hopefully TW will be able to make some decent signings.

What are the financial implications of missing the league cup group stage? Presumably a bit of gate money - not huge crowds generally, but I think there were some games on telly, and there's usually a bit of interest in our first competitive games of the season. Will Saints miss our or is there a distribution mechanism that ensures there isn't a loss?

This is a discussion we've had for in the pub for years...is it better to have a great keeper and weak strikers or a top striker and dodgy keeper.

I think this is a different, albeit related, question. There is no doubt that having a top keeper will save/earn a good number of points. Given our manager is an ex-keeper it is hardly surprising that he would prioritise good goalkeeping. The problem Saints have is whether it is cost effective to have two top keepers. It was great to have Zander come in when Mannus wasn't playing, but it means that Saints have paid for a keeper to sit on the bench for most of the season. You can only play one keeper at a time, whereas you can bring on strikers to change things about - you can actually get some value out of them.

If I was a millionaire, I would own *lots* of cars, and I wouldn't mind that they spent most of their time in the garage cos I could just choose to drive which ever one I fancied and not care about the extra costs of insurance, maintenance etc.

However, how many people when they are struggling for cash, will own two cars just in case one breaks down? Even if your livelihood depended on being able to drive, I suspect most people would have one car and then hire another should the need arise.

If Saints plan to sell Zander any time soon, then of course, re-signing Mannus is a no-brainer. However, I don't really see the point of signing them both up for a prolonged period of time.

  6. I really like both Mannus and Zander as players - I am really impressed by their abilities and attitude, and I don't particularly want to see either of them leave. However, it seems to me that having two top quality keepers is quite a luxury for a club with Saints' budget - surely this cant be sustainable. Would we be better off spending the money on having more options for strikers and just take the hit that comes from having a less able but cheaper keeper playing for a few games if/when the number one keeper is injured. I am sure that having two keepers does keep them both 'on their toes' but does it really translate into points saved/gained?

  7. I guess it's the nature of discussion boards that you get posters on a fishing trip, but when nobody bites and you get called out, it's a bit sad to carry on with 'nah, being serious mate...'

Just waiting for the 'didn't expect anyone to take it seriously anyway' line or the 'was obvious it was a joke, wisnae fishing'

  8. I thought Liam was disappointing but to be fair he took his goal well. I thought Spoony and Coulson did okay but nothing special. Stand out for me was Muzz - even without the goal - he kept winning the ball in important areas. And it was great to see Swanson bringing a bit of creativity to the side - I was genuinely excited when he was on the ball. Took me back to the days of Maskrey and Moore, when you knew that if they got the ball they would make something happen.

Having watched the highlights I can see why the ref didn't give the penalty when Foster went down - and I think he was fairly consistent in not giving the penalty up the other end when Ando pushed an ICT player in the back.

  9. Fully appreciate that Barton has rights as an employee, but also club has rights as an employer regarding conduct of their employee. I don't think there are time limits on suspension in law - but employer has to be reasonable in conducting investigations and timing of any hearing. Will also depend on seriousness of allegations.

Both sides should absolutely maintain confidentiality - though I think risk is higher for the organisation if they breach individuals confidentiality. Of course, what we have heard may be a mutually agreed version of events - that would be a sensible course of action for both parties.

Overall though, despite my loathing of The Rangers, without a lot more information of what actually happened, I wouldn't condemn the club as being unreasonable.

It's a lot more than that though - he's been ostracised and hung out to dry by his employer. The guy should take Sevco for all they're worth (although, admittedly, that's probably not very much). Yet again, I'm thankful for the fact that Saints don't behave as Sevco do, and yet again I wonder how any right thinking person could give his or her support to that lot.

Suspension is quite a common sanction used by many employers - of course you have to use it appropriately but it doesn't necessarily equate to being 'ostracised'. I don't know exactly what Barton did but I don't see why he should be portrayed as a victim here.

...but I cannot accept that the poppy is a political statement.

Nothing to do with party politics, certainly, but it is nevertheless a 'contested' image - whether you advocate white poppies or not wearing one at all because of what you see as glorifying violence or celebrating an unjust war, I can see that it is something that not everyone agrees with.

I would certainly agree that FIFA and UEFA are rather dodgy organisations but I can understand why they have rules on this. In arguing the rights and wrongs, I think that there is a danger that we miss the point. Sadly, nowadays many charities operate like multi-national corporations and while I can kind of understand why (their job is to maximise revenue/donations) I don't like the way that the poppy has become more of a brand than a personal display of remembrance or commitment to a particular charity.

Good sources are to be treasured.  Could just be a few details being ironed out after agreement in principle.  With in a day or two you could be seen as a genius.

No-one seems to think Barton will play for Rangers again - whatever arrangement they come to, whether he gets paid off or not, we'll never know the details and it will be covered up with 'by mutual agreement'.
