Great player, great attitude.. Would be a even better player if he could sort out his crossing though. That said, I love the passion and grit he shows.

The debate over Lomas sums up Scottish football fans for me. Extreme reaction to whatever the situation. To call for the manager to be sacked after five games was stupid and to now say we have completely turned the corner is stupid. A defeat next week and people will shout for his head.

Can I make a suggestion? Get a ****ing grip and let the season develop.

Can someone reminf me how many points we have still to play for? Are we 3 behind with only one game of the season left??

I think we need to calm down as I an sure at this time last season and maybe even the season before we had the same stuff about the manager and relegation blah blah blah.

A track record built up at a lower level over a number of years though. In his first season in charge, we ended up further away from Hamilton and Dundee by the end of the season than when he took over, with him winning just two of our final eight matches that season, defeats including a memorable 3-1 loss at Stirling Albion. Five defeats from seven against First Division opposition at the start of the next season too, so where was the track record that merited the board sticking by him at that point? Lomas is at the same stage as McInnes was, almost exactly, with us heading into an international break. That allowed McInnes a couple of weeks to work on things with his new squad and we didn't really look back under him. Clearly there is no guarantee whatsoever that Lomas will do the same and the first game after the split looks hard but after that we have the five teams that most folk would probably agree are our equals financially in the league. That is when Lomas will need to deliver results. If we're in trouble after the Inverness game, then that would be a fairer time to start judging him IMO.

Cant speak for the away games as i have not been to any, but taking the Aberdeen game out of things for now as it was awful i have friends who tell me we were a bit unlucky against Hibs .So on today's performance as a guide line i can't understand where all the anti Lomas stuff is coming from as i though we were pretty decent today and might have sneaked a win

The back four were solid, Ando outstanding(to think i never used to rate him)the midfield were very good , i like Cregg and Murray fought and chased everything. The two forwards have the making of a partership and i reckon Vine will bang them in once he gets that first goal(Roddy Grant went something like 19 before he got his first) and we all know what happened there.Vine still looks a wee bit unfit and tired near the end, i might have had him off in the last 20, but not much on the bench to replace him i suppose.Tade will nick the odd goal and defenders certainly know he's there.I thought subbing Pawlett who was my man of the match was wrong at the time but read else where he was injured. The substitution of Gregg was also strange to me , but im sure there was reason.Jamie Adams did ok when he came on but Nigel looked out of sorts
A good point for both teams i suppose as although Utd were poor the could have snatched a win, they appear to miss GMS(good oh!) and Daly looked a shadow of the player that destroyed us in the 5-1 game
Thought the ref was pish, denied at least one penalty and forgot his cards!
Good solid draw and pleased for the keeper and defence to get a clean sheet, we will get stronger , im sure of that and Beatie will put pressure on Vine and Tade for a starting place, and will be an asset coming off the bench
Just heard we have signed Steven McLean
Mon the Saints Mon The Lomas man!!!!

We were really good - like the first half against Hibs but kept going for the 90 minutes with the players all fired up and putting in the effort and fight for the whole game. Lacked a wee bit of luck and a killer final pass but thoroughly deserved three point.

No real weaknesses in the team. Liam's set pieces were poor but his midfield play and passing was excellent. Cregg, Vine and Pawlett were all excellent throughout the game. Only criticism I had of Lomas was leaving Muzz on after he took several knocks - was surprised that Cregg went off for Adams instead of Muzz.

Good performance, decent crowd - onward and upwards...

I agree, really this is a piss poor thread.

I'm not Steve Lomas biggest fan, in fact I agree that he is on a sticky wicket and quite rightly so.

But The fact is he is still our manager and until we are told otherwise should we not be sticking together??

Starting a thread for our next manager is bollo*ks when our current manager is still at the helm, I know it's a forum and people have different opinions but why start this now? Especially some of the shit that's been mentioned so far.

We were awful against Aberdeen but Steve turned it round and we were pretty impressive against Hibs ,particularly in the first half only going in one down to a very lucky goal against the run of play. Admittedly that knocked the confidence out of what must be a somewhat nervous side.
I have been impressed with his signings so far with Tade and Vine and Hasselbaink in particular looking the part. Once all are fully fit and Beattie joins the fray , I think we will be fine. Now is not the time to panic!
If things haven't improved by the end of October once the first run of games is over ,then it may be time to be thinking of a change but until such time I think Steve deserves our backing.

Like the sentiment of this thread and the key thing Pablo mentioned for me was that large parts of the performances against Motherwell and yesterday were fine. Lomas maybe could have made a change against Motherwell but we still should have had enough about us to get the second goal and I would say robbed was exactly the word to describe us going in one down at Easter Road. Was always going to be a battle when they nicked another early in the second half too. Last week was shocking but how would other teams in the league do without their (arguably) three main strikers and then losing two main midfielders within 45 minutes? As said in another thread, looking at all this from the viewpoint of what is happening on the pitch, not off it.

Seen very little to suggest folk are simply backing Lomas for the sake of it but is it not harsh to let a guy sign however many new players then only give him four league games to get going? Said the same about McInnes last season when fans were calling for his head after three games, having not forgiven him for the semi-final against Motherwell.

If folk are insistent on using this thirteen game run to beat him with, look at the fixtures, which were hardly a walk in the park:

    Celtic (a)
    ICT (h)
    Dundee Utd (h)
    Motherwell (a)
    Celtic (a)
    Hearts (a)
    Rangers (h)
    Eskisehirspor (a)
    Eskisehirspor (h)
    Hearts (a)
    Motherwell (a)
    Aberdeen (h)
    Hibernian (a)

Not exactly a friendly run of games bar two or three maybe.

You don't get relegated this early in the campaign and I don't see the real harm in giving him a few more weeks. I don't think anyone is talking about letting this go on until January, just until we get into the easier run of games. A few wins there and some confidence back and all of a sudden the next round of fixtures against Aberdeen, Hibs etc... don't look so daunting.

A few folk have mentioned United and Peter Houston and it's worth remembering that that they won only two of their first dozen games last season, were sitting third bottom of the league at the end of October (one point clear of Dunfermline) and Houston was under pressure because he was playing 4-5-1 a lot with Daly up top on his own. He had a new squad though and it just took them a few weeks to get going. Clearly there is no guarantee we'll pick up in a similar fashion but can fans really be so sure it's all going to go wrong after just four league matches?

In the essence of balance on topics for discussion, I would like to offer my full support of Steve Lomas.

Normally I would be the first to call for his head, God knows I've been on the verge of doing it on several occasions in the last few weeks. But, as a Saints fan who goes to all the games home and away, today, and a couple of weeks ago at Motherwell, I have seen enough to know that we are going in the right direction. All we need now is a bit of patience and calm support of the regime rather than rushing to find an excuse to get the guy out of the door as quickly as possible.

I think the players he has brought in are, generally, very good players. Vine today was excellent (even though he still looks short of match fitness) and I am genuinely excited about watching Beattie.

Yes he has made some silly tactical errors but at the end of the day, this is is first senior management role and we can't expect him to get every decision right.

I am as passionate as the next Saintee but I really think we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Today, and against Motherwell, we were extremely good for the majority of the game. On another day, we would have put 4 or 5 away, but that's the way things go in football sometimes.

    Please be patient...

I'm not entirely comfortable with this talk of thirteen games without a win. We ended last season poorly when the top six proved just too much for us with a depleted squad. This is a different side though and a much changed squad. We took on a club with a multi-million pound squad in Europe, so are we judging Lomas on that too? It'd only be eleven games without a win if we hadn't achieved something by reaching Europe!

So this season, we lose a man to an incredibly soft red card at Tynecastle but despite that could have nicked an equaliser before getting caught with a second goal when chasing the match. We then deservedly lead Motherwell but are made to pay for missing good chances. Last week was poor and no real excuse for it but we were missing a lot of players. Still not good enough though and I accept that. Today we'd been the better side (by a fair bit IMO) but find ourselves two goals down, from where it's always going to be hard to come back from.

For me, we have lost three and drawn one of the matches I'll really judge Lomas on but think we deserved far more than just a point from these games, even though we've maybe not been at our best. I actually think everything Lomas has said after the match today was right and still think we can get going and have a decent season, the squad is certainly there.

Don't expect many to agree with me but he still has my support if the players are still behind him. His job is certainly in no more danger in my mind than it was a week ago.

It'll certainly not get him the sack if we win.. That really would be ludicrous If we don't win though, will you say the same about the Utd game?? And if we don't win that one, what about the Celtic game at McD?? and if that one goes by the way side, what about game 7 away to Ross County??

I say this because I hope like hell that after game 7 we have more than 2 points. I say this because last year, which you kindly mentioned, by game 7 we had 9 points on the board.. Care to predict where points are coming from in these games laddie??

Don't get me wrong, I DO want Lomas to succeed and I wouldn't have him fired now but should we get to game 8 and be sitting on 2 points or even worse 1 point then I would personally say enough is enough..

I think that is fair enough
