    What now

Thats fine in 12 months time however I don't think we can replace all of them within 12 months. As I said it was the previous management team that handed these guys long term contracts. They won't be going anywhere. We therefore need to get improved performances from Considine, May, McGowan, Gordon etc. as they will play a lot of games this season. It's up to our manager to do that and I'm not sure the Terry Butcher approach of openly calling them shite will work.

    What now

Unfortunately when we didn't part services with the management team after the playoff victory we were always going to have a period of struggling at the wrong end. We then compounded the error by giving the manager an open chequebook to sign aging players on long term contracts. This season should be focused on doing enough to get 10th. I had my reservations that Macca was simply a cheap continuity option however his signings look a lot better than previous years given our restricted budget. I do worry we will start to spiral unless we can pick up a result soon though and I could see the older players downing tools if he keeps openly blaming them in interviews. Given he has a three year contract I think we have to just give him the season now. I'd take 11th and another playoff final right now.
  3. We shouldn't go for those players because they aren't good enough and those sorts of signings are part of the reason we are in this state. If we go for those players its a sign of desperation. Two who we were previously interested in under the previous manager. We've already missed out on Deas and Kennedy due to lack of funds. I also believe we had a provisional discussion with Fitzwater only to lose out to another Premiership team. To me that means we are shopping in a cheaper market trying to provide a platform for younger English players. If we start going down the davidson route now I'll be even more concerned.
  4. Really worried about our midfield as we have plenty of "options" in there but it looks like a group that will be overrun by most premiership teams. We desperately need to strengthen there especially when you compare ourselves to teams we should be around.
  5. I've seen a few comments on the meeting last night and I agree that Macca comes across really well. I do have some reservations though when I read quotes like "too many players at the club who aren't good enough under previous management". He was part of the previous management team so are we to believe that he had no input to these signings? He would have seen Crawford training when he was on loan so surely he should have had a word in Callums ear to say we shouldn't make this a permanent deal and certainly not on that contract length. Now he could very well have done this and Callum ignored him but I'll be reserving judgement until I see who he actually brings in.
  6. I see GMS has been released by hearts and he was someone that Davidson enquired about. Hopefully we are no longer interested. Ditto Pawlett. Indeed I hope we expand beyond the Scottish over 30s market and whoever "biscuits" has on his books.
  7. Our transfer strategy over the last few years is the main reason Davidson and anyone associated with should be out. For me this the list of players he's signed permanently that could be described postively: IN (permanent) - Considine, Phillips, Clark, Wright, Hallberg, Conway, Bryson and Melamed The majority of these players were on the wrong side of 30 and yet were given long term contracts. In the same period we lost Mccan, Kerr, Rooney, Mccart and to a lesser extent Hendry (who davidson didn't rate), Craig and Tanser. Weve also wasted money on signing Macpherson, Mahon and Bair. I understand there is an element of risk with these signings but I think most people could watch Bair in a bounce game and realise he's not got it. When you look at clubs we should be competing with signings for they've signed in the same period: Livi - Stephen Kelly, Bruce Anderson, Obileye, Omeonga, Alan Forres St Mirren - Carson, O'hara, Gogic, Kiltie, Brophy Motherwell - Spittal, Mcginn, Van Veen, Kelly All players that would be well known, would improve the team and at the right age to develop further or provide a number of seasons with the club. Instead we've had directors of footballers identify players Davidson clearly doesn't want like Eetu or panic bought Efe Ambrose. If you had to sum our policy up in one player it would be Ali Crawford. On loan and underwhelming but offered effectively a three year contract. The double season with European football was a fantastic opportunity that we have managed to fumble. If Davidson is given another summer to sign players we'll be fighting relegation next season. A new manager needs to untangle this mess of a squad as soon as possible.
  8. We are not getting relegated this season and I don't think we'll finish in the playoffs. He should be sacked now and I'd give it to someone like Steven Naismith to let them assess the squad post split. The situation with the board doesn't help but we can't hire one of the usual suspects we'll be linked with. The only way we can force them to act is to stop turning up. If we stick with Davidson I expect we'll do just enough to stay away from any trouble.
  9. I forgot that Rooney and Mccart weren't even his signings. I might be misremembering but did Rooney and Melamed not get bombed out the starting 11 early doors? I think it was around January that we hit a run of form with Rooney overloading the right and melamed linking play up top. His "recruitment" and tactics have gone backwards. He needs to leave now so he doesn't tarnish that season further. I dread to think what another summer would do to this bloated aging squad.
  10. I don't get to go to many games anymore but I won't be back until he's gone. We are not going to get relegated so now is the time to let him go and let someone else come in to decide who they want to keep. Our double winning season must have been a fluke when he accidently started playing melamed and stumbled onto a team that worked. All goodwill from that is gone now as he has taken all the enjoyment from going to the football. He's also lumbered us with shite like crawford for another season.
  11. No truth in it from what I've heard yet I wouldn't be shocked as someone said above it screams as a Davidson signing. The Jordan White deal isn't 100% dead yet either. If they can get a replacement in its back on. We have also been offered a chance to take brophy on loan with a view to signing him but it sounds like every bottom 6 club in Scotland has been asked.
  12. Feel this is a game we need to be winning. From the outside hibs have assembled a poor squad and I get the sense that their manager thinks he is better than what he is. If we are to stay clear of relegation this season we need the 3 points here. Jamie Murphy to get the winner in a drab 1-0 please.
  13. Agreed although I am now worried that he is exactly the kind of signing we will we end up with. Our recruitment policy this summer has been poor again. Wright, Considine and Murphy were names I was told about early on and were clearly our primary targets. Carey and McGowan scream as players wanting to come home and their agents offering them around any scottish club that will take them. If we were desperate for Carey we could have got him in January. In isolation these signings aren't poor but combined with their longer contracts its very short term and risky. Considine wasn't cheap and we've offered him two years when he hasn't played for a season. The goalkeeping situation is worse where we've obviously missed out on our key targets and our now scrambling. Zander Clark obviously hasn't got the move he hoped for so maybe we are waiting to see if he comes back. I can now see us getting whichever goalkeeper we can on loan then hope Clark, Hladky or Lewis are available at the end of August. We actually had a smarter policy in January when it should be harder to sign players. Hallberg is the exact kind of player we should be targeting this summer in terms of age and development. Bair, Mahon and Cleary identified as players that can be developed further. Of course we also gambled on guff like Cifti but it seems our policy this summer is to only gamble on the fitness and quality of these types of players. I think we can expect to be linked to Griffiths soon and whatever pool players Alan Preston has available.
  14. I'd been told we were waiting to see if we could get Hladky on loan as he may not be first choice. I was told though that we were at the stage of getting desperate for keepers and had been in touch with most clubs in England and a few in Scotland. I believe we sounded out Aberdeen about Joe Lewis and were told to bolt. Dahlberg must have been quite far down that list if we were trying to sign the Killie back up keeper.
  15. That's not what I've been led to believe.
  16. We had discussions but he isn't interested in signing for us. If he stays in Scotland he'll be at Dundee United apparently.
  17. Looks like we missed out on Butcher but pleased with the rest of the signings. Same guy has told me we are waiting for a GK from England on loan and that we had tried for Hemming who ultimately chose Kilmarnock. He also said we have had preliminary discussions with Jack Hamilton but this would be ultimately to replace Parish long term and he would not be first choice.
  18. Think Carey plays as a 10 these days. Bit of a short term signing but at least we should be a danger from dead ball situations again. Think him and considine will be shrewd signings.
  19. These were the names I'd been told we had been in touch with after the playoffs. Hope at least the Butcher story is correct.
  20. Just to go back to last summer was there any particular reason we didn't plan? I thought the Covid losses had been covered by government loans and we had a manager in place that had just won two cups. Did we squander most of our budget on extensions to players like MOH who didn't deserve a new contract? Can't really remember too many players we were linked with apart from Kiltie and Pawlett. Kiltie would have been a great option to have with wotherspoon out. I've got the fear that as we have stayed up,and our results improved slightly, that we'll stick with Macpherson and crawford in the middle with brown at lwb. We really need a whole new midfield to add to Hallberg and a couple of strikers. Callum needs to be ruthless and get May, MOH, Macpherson, Crawford and gilmour out the club. Put bair on loan to arbroath for 6 months like Livi did with nouble to see if we have a player there.
  21. Will be interested to see if we have learned lessons from last summer with our recruitment. Rooney, Clark and Hendry will be difficult to replace and we will have surely have known them plus Mccart will be away. I think I read someone on here saying they worked with the club on recruitment last season so I'd be interested to hear if they refused the advice and decided loan players were the way to go. MOH and Middleton can leave as far as I'm concerned. I can't remember who it was out bid to sign them on again last summer (St. Mirren or United?) but I certainly felt we've been stung. I'm still hoping Davidson either walks or is sacked. Preferably walking away without a relegation and the good feeling of the cup wins. If he stays he'll be gone before Xmas. Hope he proves me wrong and we announce a new GK and striker before July. Few names i heard the other night were Drey Wright, Matt Butcher, Andy Considine and Jamie Murphy.
  22. One of the two back from suspension is Wallace Duffy, although with the way this season has gone maybe he'll get a last minute winner. Like I said I've not seen anything in the playoff games that suggests they are a better team than us. Hallberg plays 90 minutes and we win is my gut feeling.
  23. As pathetically as we conceded a two goal lead i am still pretty confident we'll get the result we need to stay up. If it wasn't for the baffling subs we'd have seen that game out comfortably and it took a worldie of a free kick to equalise. Hallberg won't be taken off again I don't think. Hope the board have the stones to sack him even if we stay up. Even when Dodds gifts us the first half Davidson then evens it up with his master class in game management second half.

    The Play Off

I agree. Should comfortably beat a team with Kirk Broadfoot in it and Billy Dodds as manager. Shame Wallace Duffy got sent off. Sutherland looked their most dangerous player and he looks like he won't play a part either. Two 1-0 victories I think.
  25. Was confident that we'd get at least a draw last night but was pleased to see we played well and deserved the victory. Few people had some sodden pants after the dundee result but I thought Aberdeen wouldn't be interested. Hallberg had his best game in a while and it even seemed negative Callum was pushing for a second goal. The fact our best January signing was Hendry should be enough evidence to sack Davidson. No chance he will stick around with us next season. I expect he'll turn up at Motherwell or United. I think we'll have enough to beat either arbroath or Inverness over two legs. Don't think it'll be pretty but think we'll squeak through by a single goal or on penalties. This season has been such a missed opportunity. Some forward planning last summer should have seen us add quality to a squad that had just won two cups. The decision to then sell Kerr and Mccann was criminal considering we didn't have replacements. So many poor teams in the league that we could easily have got a top 5 finish and European football again.
