henryhallsdanceband
OK - no takers In medieval times only the clergy and lord of manor and family sat in church - the plebs of the congregation all had to stand for the duration. The base of the church's interior walls was wider then the rest and formed a little ledge. If anyone frail, sickly or ill could no longer stand they would 'go to the wall' and sit on the little ledge. And so to modern times - a frail, sick or failing business could 'go to the wall'. Now you never knew that did ya.
