  1. We have to dig in and try and come away with at least a point. I don’t like the way the season is shaping up and we’re not getting anything next week- we have to keep the teams involved in the relegation battle within touching distance and if a gap appears it’s all downhill from there. Seen this movie before. I’d keep McGown in midfield with Philips and try and strangle the game and hope for an opportunist goal.

  3. After a pretty miserable pre season and being dumped out the league cup with chastening defeats from lower league outfits we start the league campaign by welcoming Hearts to McD on Saturday in what is sure to be a great atmosphere. Not looking to confident about this game but hope springs eternal and it would just be like Saints to hand the Jambos a defeat. Lets get behind the lads and see if we can surprise ourselves.
  4. This is bang on about Steve May. When Clark arrived he transformed our forwrad play with May and him running channels and creating so many chance. Really gets me cross when I hear people slating May when you see his work rate.
  5. I don't think Steve McLean would be regarded as a scapegoat; he was a cheap option and he might still work out and I hope he does. I go back to another point I made and that was that we needed a new voice and a new identity. If we continue the form we are in just now sadly McLean won't be able to continue and a doing from the Jambos on Saturday will ramp up the pressure. I'm praying the team has a good look at itself and springs a surprise but it's hard to see that with what I witnessed on Saturday.
  6. I haven't seen any evidence of anyone being galvanised in the pre season or league cup. I'm sorry but we needed a new personality to shake up and provide a new identity for a team who have proven their worthy of staying in the premier league. I'm not castigating Macca I just though he was the wrong choice and has been thrown in the deep end. We start - Hearts, Ross, Celtic, Dundee, Rangers, Hibs Can anyone see us getting anything out of that slate of games the way we are playing? I'd love to be wrong.
  7. So your telling that if we start the league season with four straight defeats we are going to close ranks and just carry on regardless? I'm hoping that Steve McLean can turn this ship around but you can't see any evidence of improvement throughout the league cup stages. The board chose the cheap option in a young manager with no real experience who was CD's right hand man; I hate to say it but this could summon the end of our premier league status.
  8. Sorry to hear this news. Benny was a leader through and through and part of the great Saints team that contested the league cup final against the Lisbon Lions and were unlucky to lose. RIP Captain
  9. Pointless looking back and wishing the club had done things differently. We are where we are and it's possibly a good thing that we know how bad we are so early in the season. One of two things are going to happen over the next couple of weeks. 1. The team just suddenly gel and get their fingers out and we turn in to a decent outfit. 2. We get pumped over the next three games by Hearts, Ross and Celtic. I think its more likely to be the second of these and the club will have a huge decison to make around Steven McLean. Do we pay him off and bring in another manager - there was plenty interest from decent candidates - we were told. We will have to act swiftly or hemorrhage more points and possibly be in a position that we cannot recover from. We will of course have pissed more money down the drain but losing our Premier place would be catastrophic financially.
  10. Lets get the rose tinted spectacles off and start talking about our new signings. Where are they?
  11. You've got an unhealthy fascination with our old manager. I assume he parked his Porche over your drive in days gone by. Let it go...
  12. Like this already. Saints and good goalkeepers have been synonymous with our staying in the league last decade and encouraging that he was persuaded by Macca. Good start rather than buying loads of journeyman and hoping they work out.
  13. But we are now alone. Motherwell have lost half their team and are still struggling to recruit. There will be a lot of movement over the next couple of weeks but Havana is right it's not ideal briging players in after the season is underway.
  14. TBH I could care less what other fans are saying about our transfer dealings. There are a load of good players out there looking for a club and a regular game and if we are patient we may well unearth a couple of good ones; I'm glad we're not just buying players for the sake of it.
  15. I think that's a decent start. We need to turn the Jambos over and then head up to Dingwall and get an idea what type of identity the new Saints have.
  16. Hoping we get a decent home game for opening day. I'd be happy to be home to Hearts or the sheep to start. Please lets hope we're not old firm fodder away which we have been on several occassions.
  17. I don't see any reason to panic just now. We needed to trim the squad and I'm happy about the way that has gone so far. My biggest concern is replacing stalwarts like Spoony, Muz and MOH when they were in the prime of their form. They were were never going to last for ever but have been great servants to us and this type of calibre player isn't going to be easy to find. I'm still hopeful Halberg will return but I wont lose sleep if he doesn't; he's a big unit and I feel he's going to be a bit injury prone towards the last part of his career. We need to establish an identity and Macca has the oppertunity to make his mark so it will be interesting to see how he sets us up. Asssuming MItchell isn't coming back we need to unearth another big centre back who can fit in quickly.

Any update on the the pitch; Is work underway?
  19. I have great affection for Spoony too but you have to think Macca knows the players and what they can bring to a game in the premier. Macca will also know that he will stand or fall by making decisions like this and he's bound to be a wee bit strapped for spending after the dross we paid out for and who have never contributed. Spoony will get a two year deal somewhere either top end of the Chamionship - utd would make sense or prem teams who can use him sparingly and pay him accordingly. Spoony- St.Johnstone legend. David, thanks for the memories.
  20. All the names above are worthy of being our best loanees. This will be contorversial - after a really awful start for us I thought Darnell Fisher was class. I remember him first playing for us at Fir park and he had an absolute mare - he was all over the place and the fans were going mental. ( Same game when MOH went in a strop about not getting to talk to the hu ns and TW hooked him). He then went on to show his class - really silky footballer. Mention also to Ralston. I hope he would point to his time with us as being instrumental in him getting a new contract at Celtic.
  21. You missed the hand ball that we got away with. Against.. Killie! I think your being a bit uncharitable but it's hard to argue with the facts. He does have a wealth of experience and it's good to have an old head back there but I think sometime he's muddied the water.
  22. Not really surprised by this are we? Still keeping everyone guessing..
  23. Not what I've heard. Apparently CD is on Holiday and is being confirmed when he returns. All hearsay of course.
  24. Hope he's been tapped up by Saints.
