Well chuffed with that today!!EVERYONE played there nut's off!!, had Passion, Determination and fantastic work rate, also we played as a team, never gave up ,and encouraged one and other for the entire game.As the skip say's we came through that with me playing 90 minutes at very near 52 years of age!!!!, and several other carring knocks or injuries, and a good few playing in 2 or 3 positions.Well done all !!!Great point in our first ever League game.

Thanks to Stuart and the Aberdeen guys for the game and the hospitality afterwards!!

Cracking performance today, 100% committed for 90 minutes that's all we can ask/expect every week. Playing with that heart, we will get beat, but most of the time we will give teams better with us a real game.

Report

Ormond Saints picked up a point in their first league game of the season away to Red Star Baa Grade in deepest darkest Glasgow. Ormond's took to the road in Jock The Cock's dodgy 3 wheeled bus with only 10 players inside. We tried as hard as we could to convince Jock to pull on the famous Ormonds colours but unfortunately we had to drag Gavin Stewart out of retirement for a 90 minute shift. The Ormond's gaffer started upfront for Ormond's and worked the opposition defence but decided to give them a break, switching to right back pushing Gav McDonald upfront and Paul Leaver back into centre. The opening 15 minutes was mainly scrappy with Red Star getting a decent foothold in the game with a succession of corners which Ormond's, who have in previous crumbled under these circumstances, soaked up easily. Red Star drew first blood but Ormond's were quick to reply with Gav McDonald beating his marker for pace from an over the top through ball from Andy Muir (first time for everything, and im not talking about Andy's passing) with Gav taking a composed touch as the keeper rushed out, before lifting it over him into the gaping net. Ormond's continued to press and after missing a couple of great chances, Stu Mcdonald scored from one of Cal Kennedy's now famous whipped in corners seconds before half time. Red Star came out of the blocks quick after the break and scored a couple of well worked goals. Ormond's struggled to get a foothold in the second half until Cal Kennedy pulled out his annual piece of brilliance, taking the ball from a cleared header at the edge of the box, driving with sheer pace and determination past two opposing players before meeting their two centre backs who backed off in fear before slamming a thunderous drive at the keeper who struggled to keep it out of the net. Ormond's then had to mix things up due to various injury's with William Fernie moving back to familiar territory upfront with Paul Leaver deputising in goal. Gav Mcdonald moved to left midfield and Cal Kennedy moved to centre defence. Ormond's found themselves under continual pressure with the ball being pumped in consistently. Ormond's battled well and held out for a great point which the whole team from front to back takes full credit for (not Andy)

Managers MOM (Sponsored by arse licking) Andy Muir

Opposition's MOM (Sponsored by honesty) Cal Kennedy

Opposition View, from The Aberdeen footymad board.

Today was our first league match in the SSML, we were at home and played Ormond Saints from Perth at the Tenpole Football Pitches along from Anniesland Cross.

Pitch was very poor unfortunately and probably had about a much sand on it as Pittodrie has seen in recent seasons, we started by playing against the fairly strong wind and the team as per previous games was still introducing itself to two of the newer guys who had showed up.....game started briskly and it wasn't long before we went in front, some neat play down the left from Stuart Clay allowed Callum (I think) in and a cross to the back post to allow Phil to steer a header in the postage stamp spot, we pushed on but just couldn't get the second goal with some good chances being spurned and then a long ball from the Saints (their keeper was putting the ball so high into the air that the ball had snow on it when it came down) and one of their forwards was probably about a good yard offside as he raced on to lob our on-rushing keeper.....again we responded by some good moves which came to nothing and then with minutes to half-time they had a serious of corners which were very well whipped in and they capitalised on our poor marking with a solid header to lead 1-2 at HT

2nd half started with the ball going straight down the left wing from KO and a bouncing ball fell to Stuart Clay who lobbed the ball from an acute angle in off the back post to draw us level (seemed like one of Stuart's best moments in his life as he celebrated the goal ), again we pushed with Saints mainly limited to long balls until we had a corner, ball broke to the edge of their box with none of our team there to collect the loose ball their best player on the day picked up the ball and ran the length of the park fairly unchallenged before striking home a shot from 20 yards out which our keeper got a hand to but not enough to steer it over the bar......we're down 2-3 but still continued to press and within 10 minutes we were level, some play around the box resulted in the ball breaking through their defence and Phil and their keeper came together and with their keeper on the deck Phil was still on his feet to lift home the equaliser from 2 or 3 yards out.

As we pushed for the winner Phil had a glorious chance unmarked on the 6 yard line but decided to do his best impression of Darren Mackie......we kept pushing with some neat wide play and passing in the final 10 minutes but Ormond Saints defended very well in shutting us down and blocking every attempt at a shot from outside the box and so it finished 3-3.

Should say that Saints only had 11 players and one was their manager but they pulled for each other throughout the game and defended very well on the 18 yard line and only some poor finishing from ourselves sort of let them of the hook.

Away game against Athletico Dunfermline is up next, probably this Saturday but i'll be playing Grantown-on-Spey golf course so no rubbishy report from myself !!
