In making that comment he is quite clever, highlighting  that football views are totally subjective but at the same time almost issuing a Soviet style position that all must abide by the party line and that challenges will not be tolerated!

One man's negativity is another's reflection of the issue - as they see it - obviously. Whether one is negative or not is not my primary concern, but the moral compass superiority of some posts. These do nothing to embrace honest constructive debate on the issues of our beloved club. One team, one fan base, many opinions....surely?

This is a far too articulate response for this thread

  2. Lets keep this winning run going.

Tomorrow on a brass monkey evening we welcome Aberdeen fresh from the Ibrox Panto and all its concomitant fall out!

The Dons have been struggling for form like us so this could be an interesting game; haven't seen a belter at McD for ages so under the lights on a cold night lets see an old fashioned bruiser. I think we can win this and don't expect too many changes from the game at the weekend.

Stevie May returns for the first time- Saints legend - now a sheep shagger let's rip in to him and remind him where he made his bones.

Please discuss and lets have some positive views as always!

  3. Hamilton: Plastic pitch , no Macca, low on confidence, and being sucked in to a bottom six dog fight.

We need to arrest this worrying run and this would be a good game to put down a marker that we still are a quality team and have the tools keep away from trouble. I expect young Hendry to get a start this week and MOH back in the frame following his travelling troubles. Tommy needs to get his tactics and team on the money.

Please discuss and lets have some positive spin for a change.

Pretty shocked at how quickly people want Anderson moved on after a poorer start to the season, surely years of very strong performances count for something?

As for the rest it very much depends on who else is available. I'd happily let some of them move on if better quality players were available within our budget.

Davidson would be offered a deal, but I hate seeing him and Paton in the side together. For me Paton is a good squad player, but I really want to see us bring in a player who can pass the ball and recycle it if needs be (a Morris/Millar type). Someone that dictates play would make a huge difference to our team.

The obvious positions we need options in is upfront and if that means MacLean has to move on to free up wages alongside Cummins and Johnstone, then so be it. I'd rather it didn't happen, as I feel McLean still has something to offer, but every season has seen a little dip in ability and influence.

Alston is the one I'm pretty gutted about. I was sure their was a future top player in their, but he's probably gone backwards since joining us.

I like Alston and still think he is quality, he needs a decent run in the team and there in lies our problem in my opinion; there is too much chopping and changing around our midfield and we can all see Muzz and Paton don't gel in the same area. I like Scougal in the middle and Muzz and Alston either side of him.

Completely agree... it's a bit of a mess atm. Every Sunday morning I'm up at 3am to check the live updates. Then we'll have to play a lot of games every week. The break will give players time to get over injuries etc, but then they'll be stuffed with too many games in a short space of time. Crazy. And then there's the weather... could further add to the backlog of fixtures. I appreciate the SFA can't control that, but I'm still peeved. On a brighter note, I'm getting hitched in 3 weeks in Glencorse castle. The Reverend - who is from Perth, has happily agreed to wear my Saints scarf. If I'm traveling 10,000 miles & no saints games, I'll lose it.

Congrats man. I wish you and your wife many happy years together.

Great you still hang with us.

  6. MOH will be recalled at the end of the year- that's is fact and frankly we're kidding ourselves on that we had a chance to keep him. We got a wee bounce of him coming back at the start of the season but he's not our long term answer.

Kane will be back with us too in January.

  7.

Is he related tae victor laszlo the resistance fighter in Casablanca?

    round up the usual suspects.

    Ahahahha!

slf, you never fail to put a smile on my kisser. Great film - you have confirmed you are an old romantic with the emphasis on old!

Guess I must be one of the "least of us" then.  I have no confidence whatsoever that we are going to start scoring any time soon, let alone start taking anything out of games.

We're watching a dead team with no self-belief now.  I saw a lot of the Hibs side of a few seasons ago that ended with them being relegated, and this Saints team horribly remind me of that.  Poor quality, predictable, bad to watch, lacking in confidence, some awful signings, and whether anyone wants to hear it or not, a management team that don't actually know how to make it better - or if they do, the're not doing it.  A rebuild has been needed for a couple of seasons now, but we've not done it, and unfortunately this has been coming.  At this level, unless you're a club that has cash to spend, I'm afraid everyone at a club in any capacity has a shelf life - players and managers.  When a team becomes stale, the forward looking clubs that change on a regular basis generally wise up to it pretty fast.  That's what's happening to us now.  Other teams have sussed St Johnstone out.  They know our players, and they know our game plan (when there is one).  In short, they know how to win against us.

As Edstar said, there's no room for sentiment.  The manager failed to rebuild the team from the bottom up when he should have 3 seasons ago, and has relied on largely the same core set of players doing pretty much the same thing the same way.  That team peaked back then.  Look at the big sides when they win something, what's the first thing they do?  Pretty much dismantle it and start again.  I'm not saying that it's the manager's fault, things could have been beyond his control, but for whatever reason, it wasn't done, and we are where we are now.  In my opinion, the manager needs a new challenge and Saints desperately need fresh ideas.  I'd hate for this to go on and see Tommy Wright forced out under a cloud.  But as I said, the comparison to Hibs under Fenlon and Butcher to they way we're playing is scary.

Having said all that, we'll probably go out and beat Celtic on Saturday...

This is the usual overreaction to a poor run. You can't possibly know how things will or may turn round. Because we are on a similar poor run of results as a past years relegated teams doesn't mean anything.

In this league every team apart from Celtic have barren runs and fortunes turn round on the back of a couple of results - look at Partick- 7 points from nine in a week means instead of staring at the relegation spot they are now chirping about being in the top six.

Another thing which is absolutely crucial in this league is losing the first goal. We are losing games by the odd or fluke goal leaving teams to go in to a defensive preservation mode; there is no obvious chasm of quality between most of the clubs in this league just the rub of the green.

If we are bottom at Christmas it'll be time to panic.

No match thread yet so here goes.

We have a decent record up there in our last few visits (not lost in 5 I believe).  No reason to fear Aberdeen - for all the hype about their new signings, I'm not convinced they are better than last season.  The loss of Hayes and McGinn is hitting them more than they want to admit.  If we press them as we did Celtic and take our chances we can win this.

I agree with you we have nothing to fear from Aberdeen and we can win this if we are solid at the back and do what we do best and that is close down space when the opposition have the ball.

I expect to be setting up with much the same team who finished the game on Saturday. I fancy zippy will score in this game - he's been playing hard and he's due a break. 0-1 Saints

  10. the main thing I would say about Thomson is I can't recall him getting a decent run; has he actually ever been given 2 consecutive starts? I've always liked the lad and I still think he can make a decent mark for us but it's all about confidence. There has been several players who retain their jersey on past glories and they need a shake up.

If MOH isn't fit Thomo to come in and if he does I 'd drop Spoony.

  11.

Unofficial twitter showing O'Halloran still in a protective boot. Chance I'd reckon that means he might struggle to start on Saturday.

Would be interesting to see whether we'd return to the 4-2-3-1 with Thomson replacing MOH in that set up, or whether Scougall will come into a four and we'll play Cummins/Johnstone beside MacLean

Johnstone was pretty ordinary on Saturday and picked up a knock: for me the jury is still out. Still baffled why we let Kane go out on loan.

Hoping to see wee Thomo get a start on Saturday he looked handy when he came on against the Dees although it was too late to make an impact.

  12. If there was a fan at the game on Saturday who believed we were worth a point I'd be surprised.

As pointed out earlier from someone this was a carbon copy of last years New Year game where we turned up with an arrogance not associate with our team. Our calling card is closing down space and harrying the opposition. Dundee did this to us and we were well off the pace until it was too late.

Not too many pass marks but Ando and Shug still look like a quality partnership and special mention to Craig who had a decent game and took the penalties brilliantly.

I have to agree that Foster has looked rank this year and I can't explain his sudden loss of form

Sickness and nausea are classic symptoms of concussion.

Muzz was knocked out during the Celtic game and had 5 minutes of treatment on the pitch, he was then taken to hospital.  It was reported on 5 September that Saints were satisfied he could return to full training and be considered for the Hibs game.  However, it appears from his criticism that Tommy was aware he had been sick later in the week.  I do find it strange that with that sequence of events he was allowed to play on Saturday simply on his own assessment as to how he was feeling.

I was shocked to see Muzz in the lineup to be honest. I think if there is any concussion we should be following the NFL protocols where a player being cleared to play within a 2 week period is near impossible. I hope Muzz is grounded for another week and lets hope everyone learns from this.

I don't see why it wouldn't be, tbh, he's Rangers player, if they sell him then they're within their rights to. Only way they'd refuse an offer is through a gentlemans agreement between us and them that we'd have him until January.

How much would you trust Rangers to stand by their word?

The most annoying this about this transfer window saga is all the B.S we got from all these ITK dopes.

Sad how some people get off on spreading duff information and promising the board a huge signing.

Still perplexed about letting Kano go though.

  15.

Well I for one think Dundee  are a great choice of opponent.. As has already been said, it's a free weekend & any Saints v Dundee game will attract  fans. It's easy for Wazzy to sit in his ivory tower over in the good old US of A and rip into Scott and the rest of his hard working testimonial committee members, but you are wrong on more than one front Romeo my old friend..

If you can get a testimonial match against local opposition then you are able to tap into some away supporters spending some coin as well as the home fans. The whole reason for the match is to raise funds for Captain Dave and this game will do that.  For home fans it should matter not who we play as we are there to salute our cup winning captain, but the fact is , we all love a game against the great unwashed, testimonial or not.  I am gonna go out on a limb here and say that the Dees will bring at least 700 paying bodies and hopefully the crowd will be north of 3000. If we can't muster 2500 fans ( 15,000 at the final) to show our appreciation for Dave, it will be a disgrace.

Now rather than be negative Wazzy, how about making a big bid on Cupties cup final shirt..  It has to go for four figures & it would be wonderful if it did and then the buyer gave it back to our man..  That buyer could be you Romeo..  If you want to bid on the night I am happy to open a phone line from the Big Apple so you can show how much you care..  Maybe  I could even ask SB if he might shake your hand.  ;-)

    COYS.

    Sorry you are deluded.

i work with dyed in the wool Dee's fans who haven't missed their team in action for years and to man they have told me Cuptie won't see a penny of their money.

I do appreciate all the work the committee do on Daves behalf but a visit of the the other Dundee lot would have a better idea.

  16. I thought he was man of the match on Saturday. The work he does is not sexy and he can be a bit lethargic from time to time but he has been brilliant signing for us and with Muz and him in midfield we are solid.
