He was chairman in our tough times and he did his best despite not being a chairman with a large personal fortune as is the norm nowadays.. Alex Lamond and I went to many Saints game both home and away and he always chose to stand with his pals on the terracing rather than take advantage of any perks from his father's position as chairman of the club. I remember he and I travelling together to the Saints v Celtic League Cup Final in 1969 and standing high up on the Hampden Park terracing.
