Sorry I took this topic a bit off it's original thread about fee's, I will try and find out but can't see the info. being forthcoming, after leaving his club, my Son's team have dived I'm afraid, hopefully they are up for revival but? Up here in the North East, you don't really have club affiliations until at least u16s, one of the negatives of living in the region I suppose? Not sure if I think younger lads being tied to certain clubs at such a young age is a good thing though? I have been doing this now for 8 years, a hell of a lot changes in that time, stick to your guns and do what is best for your child? A happy child is more important than anything else in my eyes!

Bear how does the new system work. They did the same in Forth Valley with Falkirk and Stenhousemuir nver quite worked out what happens to te boys when they reach the pro age, Do  the teams have to buy them form the Academy or how does it work?

Mark what is the latest on this, We have had a number of players move on and never received a penny,

Unfortunately for us, Josh has chosen to leave St Johnstone, after a period of uncertainty, and where it looks like the face didn't fit, we have bowed out with dignity, many thanks peeps, and all the best for the Saints for the future #COYS

Sorry to hear you're lad is leaving.

He is still young enough to make his mark elsewhere.

It can be a bit daunting to get setbacks,  however tell him to keep his chin up,work hard and realise his dream.

Andy the U15's are to have a game sometime next week at Mcdiarmid, playing on the pitch I believe, opposition unknown at the moment, game was supposed to be Saturday but was cancelled? Don't know why! As Josh has had exams, he hasn't been to training for a few weeks, if you would like to know about the game, let me know and I will update you, would be nice to have an different set of eyes watching, team is not what it started off as, next few weeks will be interesting to see who makes the big step up, no guarantee's in life, as long as he plays with a smile, I'll be happy, what will be will be

The U15s season is now over, all be it for friendlies, Josh was invited to trial for Afc at U10, so happy it never worked out, he chose to turn them down at U13, U14 & U15, along with my backing (his Mum ) He didn't like their pro-youth set up,he also trialled with another pro club, and living in Aberdeen was the negative factor in that case and, although his season has been blighted by injury, we would still make the same choices all over again!

The best boys clubs in Scotland are still a wee bit behind the pro youth teams obviously but these teams still have real quality in them . Watch the latter stages of the Scottish cup or the SYCL that Milngavie host and there are players to be found , like young Josh Milne (and a few others) who Saints picked up from Dyce this season .
All is not lost if you're not signed for a pro team by u14-15 level .

Basically, he loves playing at Hibs, and loves it at Tynie, and loves school football. Basically, he loves playing football!

It might be immaterial as he might not get offered pro-youth, and therefore no decision to make

To be fair to Tynie, it wasn't them directly that poached him. A coach was moving from another outfit (Currie Star) to Tynie and knew Ben through football at Gracemount. He approached us there and asked if we wanted to join him. Tynie have treated him very well

I dislike Hutchie as a club! Massive superiority complex!!

As I have said previously, all decisions will be totally up to him

You are correct on both parts. We I helped set up Gannochy FC in Perth we never stood in the way of any player and the more players you had going on to pro Youth the more players wanted to come to the club in the first place. I don't ever remember any club approaching us directly, normally the parent would call to say their son had been asked by club xxx and we would be delighted for them.

That's the biggest problem with the whole system.
I had a chat with Billy Dodds last year on this and his own son was enjoying Sunday football and doing well, but had been asked by Pro Youth teams and the thought of not being able to play for his school or Sunday club side was putting him and his dad off.
I know times have changed but the great Aberdeen and Dundee United teams of the mid 80's were built on the "S" signings where players benefited from the quality coaching that players do get in these youth systems along side the benefit of playing for their own teams/schools etc. They in turn will have helped the other players and no doubt improved their games as well.

It was mentioned at the presentation that one young lad in the under 11's will still be eligible for the under 11's next year.
Tiny little fella, but think it was Alistair Stevenson who said, this boy can play.

Also, another lad has made so much progress, he has been promoted to a higher age group.

The old story of "if your good enough, your old enough" still applies.

Obviously some youngsters won't make the grade, but it's gonna take a few years for the youth development system to bear fruit.

It was great to hear the young lads state how well they were being coached and treated by everyone at St. Johnstone.

If memory serves me right, I don't think the player was named, I'm sure Tommy said something along the lines of possibly another, or words to that effect? Glad the field turf  is getting updated, can only be a positive for the club as it can be utilised by players right through from Youth to the first team, save vital money getting spent at other facilities, it is not the greatest surface to be playing on at the moment I'm afraid, but the future is looking positive!

There is a lot of community grants being given out by the PGA and R&A for the Ryder Cup, much like lottery funding I'm assuming Saints have got their act together and have applied for cash.

Looks like the club is moving in the right direction with Youth development.

I was at the Concert Hall last night as an invited Guest(barossa St Sponsor) It was the Inaugural Youth Academy event and was a great night for all the Young teams and Coaches

Every Level from 11,s up to 17s were awarded with Certificates
I had the Pleasure  of welcoming the 11s while Hoodlum welcomed the 12's

Great to see all the proud parents and a real in-  site into  the hard work by Coaches and Management

Stevie Brown And Tommy spoke about  how important Youth Development was to the Club and how it had come on Since Alastair Stevenson came back
They also said a six Figure sum was required and approved to upgrade the Academy  Status

The Astro would be upgraded after the Ryder Cup

Also said  Alec Gilchrist ,Craig Thompson,Chris Kane and one other(Cant quite remember) would be moved up to first team  Squad next season

The Future of Youth Football looks very promising and good to see young lads will be given an opportunity

    Hi there,
You won't see me pop on this forum a lot, but I just thought I would say what a fantastic evening Saint's put on for the Youth Academy this evening at Perth Concert Hall, from the U11s up through to the U17s, every player was acknowledged by a wonderful turn out from the Club. From the Chairman Steve Brown, Manager Tommy Wright, Asst Callum Davidson, players Stevie May and David Wotherspoon, Alex Cleland, Peter Loudon and Paul Smith, and various sponsors, this was a wonderful acknowledgment for the lads, with just enough seriousness, motivation and sense of humour that makes it all worth while for parents like me, it's not always easy travelling the distances we do, nights like this make you remember why you do it #COYS!! Thanks
