It has been an eye-opener reading this forum.  I admit to being relatively ignorant to Scottish football when I first posed the Stevie May question.

Valuations of players in England is ridiculous.  And like I said before, this is because Premier League survival is the primary aim of probably 12 of its clubs each season, they are prepared to pay 'whatever it takes', regardless of reasonable valuations.  A young British player like May would probably struggle to get a game for any English Premier League club, and he will have to do something 'exceptional' to get a million pound move to a club higher than League One, so it would probably be better for him to stay in the SPL and develop there.

That's not a slight at SPL clubs by the way.  It is just that it's not easy for any young British player to stand out enough to shine in the Championship or above.  If, you would say, May is as good as someone like Jordan Rhodes, then you have a gem, and potential money spinner.  But Rhodes scored consistently for 3 years in League One, at Huddersfield, who, at the time, had a bigger playing budget than 90% of the league above, so prising him away wasn't easy, as Blackburn's £8M fee suggests.

It looks like our interest has ended anyway.  We signed Haris Vuckic on loan yesterday, a 21 year old Slovenian international from Newcastle, who was once a big-money target for Man Utd, and is highly rated despite being out for much of last year with injury.  Hopefully, he'll score the goals we need that will cement a place in the top 6.

I will certainly be keeping a keen eye on Stevie May's progress, and the Saints of course.  Good luck for the season, and respect to the interesting contributors to this board.

I would suspect that his record in management would be above average with a win ratio of 39.76%.

Flavour of the month's Terry Butchers record is a win ratio of 36.1%.

I think he is a decent manager, just went to the wrong club.

I think we can accept that on this occasion he is right, caveated by the hope that he is given a 5 match ban from the SFA for saying it.

I liked Stuart's theory yesterday along the lines of this is just another tactic to draw attention away from their latest batch of directors etc.

Plus, (may be old news I missed) things must be bad when Dundee's chairman knocked them back because they could not guarantee he would still be in the job after their AGM, if it happens just before Xmas.

Savo's retiring after next 2 games, according to his Twitter feed: Steven Milne ‏@savo2205 7h retiring lad! After the next home game.

Last game will be at home Dundee v Rangers in the cup.  Wouldn't you just love to see him get another double against Rangers?

Brilliant memories at McDiarmid Park and a great servant to Saints.

Best wishes for the future, Savo.

Assuming you mean Gary McDonald, I couldn’t disagree more. I’ll admit to being totally underwhelmed when we signed him, mainly due to the views of Aberdeen and Hamilton fans and not really noticing him in games against us, but I’ve been hugely surprised by him.

His positional play and work rate, particularly when we don’t have the ball, is excellent. The number of times he either covers for an out of position team mate, or fills in a gap to stop the opposition having an easy pass, most of which probably goes unnoticed, shows how well he reads the game. When we have the ball he generally just keeps it simple, linking the play and keeping the ball moving. He’s very much an integral player now, probably far more highly rated by his team mates and manager than most supporters. He’s definitely one of the players who makes us tick, taking the ball from the defenders and getting attacking moves started.

As sad as it may sound, I’d recommend taking 5-10 minutes to watch him more closely during a game, particularly when we’re defending, just to see how much unsung, dirty work he actually does.

Really enjoyed yesterday had a braw day. The staff at Mcdiarmid stepped up a notch in my eyes ( again ) yesterday. The wee lad has been an emotional wee soul over the past week due to the loss of his grandad. Crying almost anywhere which is understandable as hes only 7. One of the directors noticed he was upset and sent to of the players into the muirton suite to get him. Robbo and Ando took the wee fella ontp the pitch for a kick about and it son wiped the tears away. It was braw to see. A wee letter to the club i think.

A genuine mistake and a sincere apology given by the club, think we should leave it there.Let us focus on the positives and there were plenty of them today.

Same website states Saints were dominant with Edwards and Kane passing up several goal scoring chances.

Also Edwards replacement, Fortnam -Tomlinson, picked up a pass in his own half before powering his way passed the green jerseys to unleash a drive into the net.

Described as similar to Lee Griffiths goal at Tannadice last season.

    Must have been a belter.

Yes, apparently had a good game.

Thanks to St Johnstone 1884 - The Hibernian website describes the Saints defence as being well marshalled by Jahic. Hibs are a good side that could have gone top of the table with a win, so it's a decent scalp for Saints.
