monkfish
Town. Too small for a city. Same goes for Inverness - not a city.

ancientsaint
PERTH WAS originally a City.....Then in 1975 the local government Scotland acts came into being.....The only "Cities" to be granted CITY status after 1975 were - Aberdeen-Glasgow- Edinburgh and Dundee........Stirling and Inverness were later admitted to City status. lethamsaintee
I don't really care for the City tag. Really what does it mean? Much prefer to be a reasonably large town, and a pretty bonny one at that, than some joke city.
stu
Having city status is pretty meaningless in relation to today's language. I appreciate that Britain has a historic tradition of cathedral cities etc, but these days when people talk about a city they usually mean a proper metropolis. Who goes to Derby and thinks 'ah, now I'm in the big city!'??? Going by normal standards Perth probably deserves to be a city because of its history, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over the injustice - Preston may be an official city, but that doesnt make it any less shit, or make people want to go there. blueheaven
I like to think of Perth as a city, but the word is completely meaningless. There's no set criteria for it these days, and even when there was a criteria (i.e. to have a cathedral), that criteria was pretty daft. If Inverness is one, then I can think of no reason why Perth shouldn't be too - but, at the same time, there are far bigger places in England that don't have city status either. The whole notion is pointless, confusing and outdated.

O'Rourke
I used to kick members of the Kelly family (good lads one and all) around the South Inch when they played for Fair City. Fair Town? Nah!

Carse of Gowrie Saint
Unfortunately Perth is classed as a town and we miss out on funding and other rewards that Inverness and Stirling have received since receiving city status. I think the council is frightened to apply for city status because if we were unsuccessful we would have to accept we are the Fair Toon ! ancientsaint
Ayr and Paisley applied for city status at about the same time as Inverness......so they will probably be the next applicants for consideration.......Some choice that will be Junkie City of Paisley ! Cant see why the previous "City status" cannot be restored to Perth.
