55saint reacted to HOODLUM65 in Ashley Booth
Noticed today that a recently installed bench on the North Inch now has a nameplate on it of Ashley Booth who passed away earlier this year.
R.I.P.

Seems like a great idea to get him tied up officially after all his brilliant work!
Infrastructure well spent imo.
Looking forward to loads more Saints TV etc

Whilst I want to be realistic about Saints too...I also want to be progressive and see no reason why it is acceptable to think that because Perth's population is around 45,000 that we cannot either sustain or build on our current success!
Having followed Saints through all Scotland's leagues, I have no doubt that this has been one of, if not the most consisently successful periods, culminating in the winning of our first Scottish Cup.
With this success, increase in season ticket sales for this season and the higher profile the club now within Perth/Perthshire and outwith, I do not believe we have reached anywhere near our potential yet!
Even in the time that I've been watching football...a certain club just 22 miles down river from Perth have overtaken both Saints and Dundee to achieve success which puts them in a position whereby they are certainly regarded as one of the top half dozen teams in Scotland. When Saints were enjoying reasonable success in the 1950's, 60's and 70's this team did'nt have a main stand or proper enlcosure and the rest of their ground was surrounded by corrugated iron fencing!
That same club when promoted from the old first division along with Saints chose to go full-time, whilst Saints remained part-time....Saints were relegated eventually, but this club continued a sustained period of success. In case you hav'nt guessed already...that club is Dundee Utd....and potentially they could be looked upon as the 3rd team in tayside, as both Dundee and Saints were once believed to be bigger clubs!.. I hate to say it, but Dundee probably still are!
Dundee Utd's success over recent decades has meant that they have hoovered up many fans from outside Dundee and in many areas where Saints could have, if we had emulated their success. There's even a Perth Arabs group who may never have existed without Dundee Utd's success!
St Johnstone's current success should never be limited by the size of our crowds as the area surrounding Perth to the north, south, east and west has a potential far outweighing the 45000 in the city.
Only by Saints investing in our club and the whole area supporting us, can we realise our potential. The support the club received from the people of Perth/Perthshire and outwith and the 15,000 people who attended the Cup Final shows that we still have some way to go....that's where the potential is, but the club themselves have to realise this and ensure that this is a stepping stone to greater success!

If you class playing a horrific back pass to your keeper inside your box and jumping out the way of the ball playing well then yes I'll admit he done that well.
The man is a ghost, an absolute imposter of a player.

Heard from a very reliable source that Stevie May is not interested in moving at the moment (or to any of the clubs in talks) and it's the club that are pushing for a deal to go ahead.
I really hope the lad isn't bullied into a move by Steve Brown. If he wants to stay tie him up for a while and take a risk of a higher fee. We survived when we lost out on the Danny Griffin fee and would again.

I find the whole situation utterly depressing to be honest. Don't want to bash the club, but from the absolute high of the cup win and parade, it seems like the club is just ballsing everything up. Agents/players/staff on holidays was the excuses wheeled out by the club and some folk on here for inaction! Come in, get a grip, it is a shambles.
May should have been given a can of tennents super on the bus back from parkhead and a contract shoved in front of him there and then! TW the same.
How do saints come up with a figure of £800k for May? Can't see TW coming up with that and to be honest, SB wouldn't have a clue.
Pains me to say it, but Utd have shown how transfers should be done. Get players tied down to contracts and don't sell until you get what you want.
The club should have been talking up saints at every opportunity to sell the club to fans and players. Instead, we get nothing but negativity.
The other thing to look at is how this transfer would affect and future sales that saints may have. If he goes for 800k, last year of contract or not, that sends out the signal that saints sell on the cheep. Hibs and Utd got good money for many players because folk wanted them and they were perceived as hard to push around.
*Frustrated rant over *

Strikes me as ironic.

guys like stevie may really dont come along often for a team like saints. an amazing young striker with huge potential who IS A SAINTS FAN.
why are w a) trying to sell him after one season playing for us b ) trying to sell him below what he is worth.
sign him up on a long contract and build a team around him. all we had to do was add a couple of players to what we had last season ffs.
don't sell him until we get an offer we and he cant refuse (eg top championship club for 2 million if he has another 25+ season) instead of begging rotherham to come up 800k to take him off our hands
i get the feeling SB thought the bids would be rolling in for May and now he's praying Rotherham can come up with the 800k or that all this paper talk alerts another club to make a move when the obvious answer is to tie May up for another season or two...

It's not as if we have cash flow problems and need the money urgently, an extension and another great season, which I'm convinced he'd have, and we'd get double that. Short sighted in the extreme.

Brown is desperate to sell him.
Bet he was shitting himself when May was making noises about staying.

Today is the anniversary of us entering World War I let us take time to remember our players who went off to do their duty and never came back
John Cameron St Johnstone
Alexander Halkett, Dundee, Aberdeen, St Johnstone
Thomas Alexander Jackson, St Mirren, St Johnstone (Scottish International)
William MacPherson St Johnstone
David McWalter, St Johnstone
Herbert Murray, Clyde, Aberdeen, Queen’s Park, St Johnstone, Motherwell
Bertram Sampson, St Johnstone
Charles Scott, Rangers, St Johnstone
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
If I have missed anyone please add them to the list
