Snooker hall

Alec's Snooker Hall was at the bottom of Kinnoull St on the top floor of a building which was accessed from Carpenter St.  From memory he had 8 tables one of which was kept covered for the "good" players.  He had a boom time round about the time of the Paul Newman film "The Hustler" but closed late 60s (?).  There was a snooker club above the Co-op electrical shop in South Methven St but I think that was members only.  The one next to Watson's came much later when snooker became popular on TV.

The one big difference between snooker in those days and what we see now on TV was the fact that nobody had heard of safety play.  If you could not see a pot you just tried your luck and hoped for the best.  We did know about side and screw though!

PS My lawyers will sue anyone who says I had a misspent youth.
