Worry not Canuck..I did miss the tongue in cheek element I have to admit! I do defend the right of any individual to air an opinion without fear of ridicule. Despite some of my posts it is never my intention to ridicule anyone. I would like to think I could respect someone's opinion whether I agreed with it or not. I hope never to offend. I do however appreciate some debate/banter!? I too dislike the xenophobia being whipped up by Farage et al .....that will never end well!?!?

Maybe they should learn democracy from a country where the vast majority of its parliamentarians are unelected; about corruption from a House of Commons that just awarded itself massive pay rises after an expenses scandal; and accountability from a Government with one MP in Scotland.

By that rationale, why have a general election next year? The people made their choice the last time.

    Cue Blackadder 3rd.

Blackadder is filling up Baldrick's MP application form, he comes to the question - "Any criminal record?"

    Baldrick - "None".

Blackadder - "Oh come on you're applying to be an MP for god's sake!  I'll just put down Fraud, Rape and Murder, that should do it"

Wait, there's a meet the chairman night and he's only allowing a chosen few to go, with pre-picked questions? Jeez, that's worse than David Cameron's attempt to save Scotland.

Saints really are becoming a 'who you know' club with this and the secret seven. Lack of fan engagement is shameful.

    Edstar is spot on IMHO
look no one wants Saints to go down the route of being a club that overspends but I definitely feel we cut spending too soon/harshly.
If we needed to do so it should of been say a two season plan rather than a sudden decision which seemed to take our manager by surprise

    then
win cup - everybody on a high
let go a number of players
disarray as wright potentially has a couple of great signings lined up to replace but doesn't know his budget (made public in press)
steve brown on holidays and doesn't even know how much we are due in tv money etc from cup run !
small squad beats luzern but defeat in nxt rd
    - sell may / tie up new contract for tommy
finally tell wright there is no budget for players etc as to be spent on infrastructure etc
    now
3 major injuries , 4 defeats in a row and a poor league position

It is perhaps not the personnel involved (Goodwillie / Craig / Dunne v Graham / Lappin / Faddy) but the way in which we ended up securing them.

As opposed to being players that Tommy identified that he wanted and the chairman showing him support in going out to get them (and the club looking somewhere near professional) TW had the shame of not being able to commit to anything as Brown had f****d about and would not tell him how much he had to spend and HIS targets walked out the door, probably shaking their heads in bemusement.

We were then forced into raking about through what was left when the need arose through injuries. This whole saga, from the players obvious elation at winning the cup, to them then seeing the negativity through the close season from the Board, to losing May etc surely has had an effect on the confidence of the squad. Saying that, when you look at the players we have signed through need rather than desire, they are actually pretty decent, and Tommy should be commended for that.

At no point did I think that the cup win meant Saints were suddenly propelled into being a 'force' in Scottish football. We are however not the 'overperforming' team some like to make out either.

What I hoped the cup win would bring was an increase in interest in Saints from the people of Perth and potentially better crowds. The real crime for me is the failure of the club to maintain a positive atmosphere to attract people to McD. Yes, some extra season tickets were bought, and many probably by people for either the first time, or the first time in a long time. Are those people happy they made that choice to purchase a season ticket? I would say a lot are not, and, unless things change I doubt we will see them renew next season

Last season our 2-0 win at McD had 2329 attendance.

Yesterday was 3400 so an increase of 1071.

    Pretty good.

The worrying thing about yesterday and the home game against Dundee was that both teams seemed to want it more than us. In the first half yesterday, St Mirren looked like the St Johnstone team of the past few seasons. They were closing us down at every opportunity, winning all the 50/50 balls and looked threatening every time they went forward.

I am not calling into question any of our players professionalism, but I do have my doubts about some of their hunger. Many of our squad have achieved unbelieveable success over the past few years, with top half finished, European football and a Scottish Cup win. As a professional footballer playing for a club out with Celtic, that's about as good as it gets in Scotland.

I look at the likes of Hamilton and see a team full of young guys that are eager to improve and realise that Hamilton are a stepping stone to bigger things, then I look at us and see a squad with many coming into the latter stages of their careers and other like David Wotherspoon and Gary Miller who seem quite content to plod along at Saints and don't have much ambition beyond that. It's a dangerous combination.

At the moment we are making too many mistakes defensively and getting punished every time. We need to get back to basics defensively and stop making silly errors.

In midfield, the players need to start being more positive. There was no movement in the middle yesterday and in order to be more successful we need to see more of the men in the middle trying to play more cutting passes and making forward runs beyond the strikers. Strange that Caddis was dropped yesterday as I thought he played ok last week against Dundee United and is one of the few midfielders we have that has the ability to link up with our front men and get into threating positions. Lee Croft made a massive difference when he came on, he has the ability to do that on a regular basis, but has only been showing glimpses of it over the past year or so. Let's hope he starts putting in some consistently good performances in the near future.

Up front, Brian Graham dosent offer much in terms of link up etc, but he obviously has a good eye for goal. McFadden showed some glimpses of his class, but is obviously well short of match fitness.

Overall, I'm not hitting the panic button quite yet. We are in the position we are due to the Chairman and boards negativity and lack of ambition in the summer and also suffering the misfortune of losing two key players in Tam Scobbie and Steven MacLean. I can't see us getting dragged into the relegation battle, but I would be very surprised if we made top 6.

I bet the west coast journo's are hacking this out right now:
James McFadden announces retirement from international football
Ex-Scotland ace McFadden has decided to hang up his international boots by signing for St Johnstone. The talismanic marksman, famed for his 60 yard screamer against the French said "I have been considering my international future for some time now and thought there is no better way to bring down the curtain on my international career than by signing for saints". McFadden has signed for the flukey Scottish cup winners until the end of the season.

Great reply Saintee4life...why don't you come back with a measured response rather than turn it personal!...Just in case you don't get it...I'm not a socialist, but do believe if the government wish to catch people that they believe are benefit scroungers , then they should also be looking and acting at both ends of the scale regarding Tax and expenses...they wouldn't even have to look very far!

You don't have an answer to whether or not you think something is OK??  That's odd - you seem so opinionated about everything else, but you have no opinion on companies who dodge tax, no opinion on corporate swindlers, no opinion on MPs fiddling their expenses?

Thanks for the kind job offer by the way, but I'm not especially interested in either becoming an accountant or working for you.

The vote is confirmed and as democrats this should be accepted by all.  However the very nature of what is Britain has been shaken to the core.  For the Yes movement to have come so close, in spite of all the newspapers apart from the Sunday Herald supporting the status quo and a rather dubious coverage from the British Broadcasting Corporation, signals the impact and success of grassroots politics.

The fact that Glasgow and Dundee endorsed Yes is telling.  With 55 % of the vote, No has won, but I doubt a large percentage of that vote supports the "union" in its present format, when 1 in 5 Scottish children live in poverty, when mass nuclear weapons are stored next to the nation's largest city and where currently there are 46 food banks in the city of Glasgow.  Promises or "vows" will need to be adhered to by the Eton mess.

I feel that the No campaign have been quick to highlight abuse towards supporters (which rightfully should be condemned) but recent social media posts to Andy Murray and from Tory MP's makes me worry about Scotland's future and how much of a priority we will be and what role Scotland has in a "union".

Independence was not extinguished yesterday and I personally feel that the debate on the matter will continue, solely due to the contempt that Westminster has for this nation.
