Such sad news. Myself and my wife had the pleasure of meeting up with John and his good lady in Athens shortly after the cup final. We had never met but arranged to meet up via WAP. John was unmistakable in his St Johnstone shirt as he walked towards us in Athens Airport. He quickly whisked us to his local where we met his wife and a number of his expat pals who were all converted Saintees - as was the Greek owner of the bar! After a few beers and onwards to his local taverna where  yet more locals and converted Saintees appeared. I had brought a couple of cup winners tee shirts as  gifts and he was over the moon! After great food and numerous tsiporos, great chat about Saints, Perth and his pals and adversaries on WAP it was back to the airport with a fuzzy head for an onward flight. Great hospitality, great chat, great memories and a great guy.
Condolences to his family and friends at their sudden sad loss.

think any comparison with Dundee is spurious given their record of lack of financial accumen and SJ record of prudence.
SJ has nested in Scougall, Mcmilan and MOH without the benefit of incoming fees rather relying on league position income and non football income. It is also true to say that there has been an investment in continuity through giving certain players long term deals which until the first few weeks of this season no one argued with. with hindsight I guess TW and sB would have taken a different tack. They now have to get on with what we've got and hope TW can turn things around. one things for sure SB will think long and hard before retaining older players for longer in future.
as for Caulker I think you will find  he has had many personal issues that have impacted his career development. Dundee does not have a good risk/reward record..
  13. Thanks

Credit to Caulker for talking openly about his struggles at every club he's been at but he's not without risk, especially if they're throwing decent money at him. 18 months is a long time to pay big money if he doesn't turn his career around. He's likely to have ability and could be a real asset for them but I'm not sure that we would want to take the risk on signing him and potentially end up with him on the books in the Championship (as Dundee may well find).

I wouldn't believe everything you read ! Do you honestly believe Rangers would prefer to hold on to him if he is not sold in this window given the signings they have made and his absence from the first team squad when the could loan him out, get a financial contribution and have him in a shop window for sale in the summer? and as for TW seem to recall him saying he would not have Swanson back.......! Anyway we won't have long to see if someone else is brought in. just hope the recruits make an immediate impact.

You have moved from MOH is not returning to I believe  we are not signing MOH.
So really you are like the rest of us and don' have a clue whether saints are still interested in bringing him back or not.
Better if you just say you don' think we will sign him.

Sadly was found dead on the top of a mountain. I get why people enjoy being out getting exercise in wonderful scenery but don't understand the need to do it in extreme weather ! What really gets me is that some go out and disregard weather warnings and then end up having to be rescued by volunteers who risk their own lives in the process.

Don't normally engage in these debates but yesterday was just shocking on a number of fronts and raise many questions.
TW - one of his key traits is loyalty. Has worked in the past when we have gone through  sticky patches and eventually come good but I think it's fairly clear that by sticking with a number of these players will see us in ever deeper difficulties.
Sadly Macca, Anderson, Craig, Millar and Wotherspoon of that team yesterday were miles off the pace and technically bereft - times up for all of them. Watson was clearly either unfit or simply has no pace yet he is played against Storey who clearly was fit and has pace in abundance. Surprise surprise three goals conceded from our  right side and it could have been more = ? TW decision making / tactics. We all had a bit of a joke a while back at Sammons expense - on yesterday's display he was miles ahead of either of our two starting forwards.
For me Comrie is a shoe in for right back and did commendably at left back but surely should have been chosen for right back. Not for the first time a player makes himself available and breaks down before the game starts or shortly thereafter - Tanser should be shot if TW comments re his absence are correct.
TW talks about "throwing in" younger guys. No - the likes of Kerr and Gordon deserve a run and he should show confidence in them to do so just as he did with Comrie til his injury.
Anyone who watched PT against Celtic the other night would have realised this team was going to cause us all sorts of problems if we did not have basic structure and determination from the get go - yet both were missing. Why ffs?
understand and accept Browns approach to financial management but there is now a clear need for short term investment at least in this window to freshen up the team - particularly in midfield and out wide. We are in a dogfight and without some change and inspiration trouble is ahead I fear.
Simply cannot understand why Kane and McMillan did not start yesterday - the two who did were abysmal (again) and I would have pulled at least one of them before half.
TW didn't want to go into the dressing room at full time ??!! At half time he should have ripped into them and changed personnel and structure. hope he has them all in at 0800 this morning to watch what we had to witness and put them through a good hard session focusing on basic structure and skills.
sorry for the ramble - feel a bit better now!
