SingaporeSaint
The idea of a central piazza in place of the City Hall would mean that you could have the pigeons shitting on you from a greater height, not to mention the seagulls also. Great. With the extremely short summer season that Perth has. Need to get plenty of those patio heaters with umbrellas. You keep warm and at the same time protected from seagull and pigeon shit. You know it makes sense, go for it.
Jamie_Beatson
Really disappointed by the decision not to allow its demolition. It has sat empty and forlorn for years and serves no purpose. It will now sit empty and forlorn for years to come. Pointless and hiding a true architectural gem. Seems to be a group of old folk with too much time on their hands pulling the strings and looking at it through rose-tinted glasses. Total eyesore. Sounds like the area will just get worse and worse over the years. As if Perth City Centre isn't a depressing enough place as it is at the moment. Well i for one am happy they are keeping the city hall but agree on the point that it cant sit empty anymore they must do something constructive and creative with it if its going to be kept..................and as for the open plaza idea, not bad, but its SCOTLAND we are living in and not the south of France. Open air seating and cafes would benafit about a dozen times a summer (whenever that is ),more like a rendezvous point for the undesirables IMO.............. Site for the Farmers market and other events...like George Square in Glasgow is used for. But yes, you would get jakies and bloody skateboarders there no doubt
ryangordon86
Are bloody skateboarders ones that are still trying to master the art? Agree with the above statements. This was a perfect chance to give the centre of Perth a new lease of life. Perhaps even celebrate our city status. Admittedly this time at least the council isn't to blame. SingaporeSaint
You could probably fit a good sized Tesco's in the City Hall

Yeah, and you can buy wooden spoons with a wee bit of heather or tartan bow tied round them and some 'hilarious' wee Scottish anecdote or saying written on the face

blueheaven
The council should go ahead and knock it down anyway. They could just say it was an accident. Maybe a naughty dog did it.

mogs1968
All joking aside, you only have to look at the City Square in Dundee. Its still a lovely place, with no skateboarders. I am all for keeping the City Hall, as long as they use it for something constructive. Yes it's lovely being all "Cosmo" but we do not have the weather to sit outside, and when we do, the wasps or bloody midgies get you. Perth is still a beautiful City and it's needs history to help bring he tourists in. New eyesores like the new concert hall are okay , but I prefer the Museum, the Sherriff Court, City Hall etc. Edited May 10, 2012 by mogs1968 Grammar
SingaporeSaint
I liked the idea keeping the fronatge like a mini Brandenburg Gate, would look great lit up at night. Though knocking down the guts and the other three sides. The cafes and retaurants would have patio heaters etc. It could look really great. Greece is full of coffee shops, somewhere for them all to sit whilst they are unemployed.
