101 Saint
Some facts rather than opinions. From the above response, I take it he is actually employed by us which is fact number one. When did he start with us? Is he a full time employee? Is he the only one responsible for coaching our keepers? His approximate start date can be found on the official site. News section. He is not full time as far as I know. Last season he did 3 or four days per week. Del retains overall charge but, simply put, Marshall is the sole coach for all our keepers. Johnstoun
Cuthbert was never really given a chance at Saints. We should definitely bring him back. If 110 appearances isn't a chance let's get Paston back.

He doesnt feature in the headlines in the news archive and it would be quite a trawl to go through every article. My recollection is he joined towards the end of 2009 but may well be wrong. Nah, I reckon Main was first choice when he joined. I remember being deeply suspsicious but suspiscions died at Rugby Park. Having said that, they arose from the in the aftermath of Easter Road and that run of games that Smith cost us. Wonder if he'll feature tomorrow... BlueJ
What about Lenny Pidgeley? Signing Lenny as well as Cuthbert would just be putting the Cat amongst the Pidgeley. (I know but it had to be said)

101 Saint
How do you know Marshall's doing a good job with our keepers? You don't usually seem interested in my opinion, why change now? I like him, I think he does a good job. Duffy has improved massively and a St Johnstone employee assures me that Marshall deserves credit. Jad
So we are still no clearer in knowing who will take the no 1 shirt for that important job between the sticks. I hope that Del has got a good target in mind, I would like to think that Smithy would come on to a good game this season but he doesn't fill me with confidence after some of his shows last season. The Courier mentions the goalie situation today. C'mon the Saints & the new boys, let's have a good workout against Forfar today with no injuries...please

Apart from one employees opinion, how are you in a position to judge his coaching qualities? eg were you a keeper who has been coached by a specialist professional goalkeeping coach, have watched a few of Marshalls coaching sessions and can therefore compare them to your own expetiences? Is Duffy's improvement measurably down to Marshall's coaching?
Derek Patterson
O Is Duffy's improvement measurably down to Marshall's coaching? I was speaking to 101 about this issue recently. I haven't seen much of the boy Duffy but from what I heard, before Marshall was there he was an alright keeper but didn't really have a lot of command over his defence. Since he's worked with Marshall he's got much more confident and is always shouting at the players and getting them organised properly. I never rated Marshall that highly when he was an active keeper but it seems he's quite talented as a coach.

It's interesting he's made Duffy able to command a defence. Coaching youths is different to first team players of course. I don't know enough about it to say whether he's a talented coach or not. Hibs did'nt think he was and their supporters thought he was terrible but I'm never sure how the average, game going supporter can guage this.
