We scored 9 goals in 19 home games.

It doesn’t matter how many we scored. It was enough.

This is like saying, many people think the 1970 Brazilian World Cup Winning Team was the best team ever, but their failure to score a fifth goal in the final means they were shite, really.

Ach well that's fine then, scoring 9 goals at home all season means we can finish 5th every time.

To me you can't get away with scoring goals regularly, especially if you want to actually achieve something. 9 goals in 19 games is/was embarrassing.

Not really. I think you can say that a team can be successful, but they have a glaring weakness. When times get tough, that weakness becomes a real problem rather than something which is less of an issue.
