johndb
A word we used at school 'Shotty' I have only heard in Edinburgh. Means look out - Keep shotty. Could be from shotgun or I heard some Indonesians hearing scots say shotty and chorie (steal) owned up to having two similar words in their language. British troops brought back from far east? Never heard chait either. Ged is a fine word though, as is 'doss' meaning good, only erstwhile forumite Benjo and his family seem to still use that one. Yep it is pretty widely used in Embra. There were other words like Chorie (steal) and Shotty ( look out someone coming) that I hadn't heard in Perth Aberdeen or Glasgow either. On the excellent 'Edinburgh Photo ' site someone says they have an Indonesian root.
